FRENCH MEAT PIE

SUPPER: On Saturday,

October 23 St. Jude will

have a French Meat Pie

Supper. This will be take-

out only with pick-up from

5-6pm from the St. Jude

rectory parking lot. On that day those going to Mass are

encouraged not to use this lot, or you may be blocked in.

The dinner will consist of a quarter of a home-made

French Meat Pie with mashed potatoes, and a veggie

which is still to be determined. The meal will include

dessert and soup. Tickets are $15.00, and are available

after all St. Jude Masses, selected Masses in the other

Churches, on-line, or in the collaborative office.

BIBLE STUDY OF MARK’S

GOSPEL: Starting on Thursday,

October 14 Fr. Fred Babiczuk will

lead a Bible Study of the gospel of

Mark which will involve both

presentation and discussion. The

Study will consist of 8 sessions

ending on December 9 with no class

on Thanksgiving. This is an

adaptation of the class that he is giving this fall for those

studying to be a deacon. The class will be held in the

Conference Room at St. Anthony Parish Center from

11am to 12:15pm. The class will also be live streamed.

ST JUDE CHOIR: The choir at St. Jude will once again

begin rehearsing on Monday evenings, beginning this

Monday, September 27th from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. in the

choir loft. We are looking for returning and new members

to join our choir. We are also reaching out to our

parishioners from St. Anthony and St. Mary’s - in addition

to working on music for weekly Masses, we will be also

be preparing and learning music for the upcoming Advent

and Christmas Seasons! No auditions needed or the ability

to read music! The only requirement is that you enjoy

singing! If you have any questions, please feel free to

contact our music director, Brian Cote at 508-259-9261 or

email [email protected]. Look forward to seeing

you at our rehearsal!

FIRST SATURDAY MASS: Despite what was

previously in the bulletin, there will be no First Saturday

Mass. Fr. Fred is not available to do a first Saturday Mass

because of his Saturday Mass schedule with two vigil

Masses, and funerals most Saturdays. Fr. Mc Glynn

thought that he was able to do it, but his schedule will not

allow for it either.

POLISH FOOD SALE: To help fund the meal ministry

we are going to have a monthly Polish food sale. Pick-up

will be at St. Anthony Hall from 3-6pm on the first

Saturday. The first Polish Food sale will be on October

10. Please note change in day. It is best to order in

advance, but we will have food available on a first come,

first serve basis for those who have not pre-ordered. You

can order on-line, or fill out the order form below. Order

forms with payment can be dropped in the basket, or

brought to the Office.

COYLE/CASSIDY FOOD PANTRY

SPONSORED BY TCN: When

Coyle/Cassidy High School closed in

June of 2020 I was asked by Mr. Myron

if the highly successful Coyle/Cassidy

food pantry could continue at St. Anthony to which I

agreed. This Food Pantry served over 250 family a month

in the greater Taunton Area. The pantry did not restart till

May of 2021, and has been operating on the final Saturday

of the month through-out the Summer. The pantry was

founded and directed by one of the teachers at

Coyle/Cassidy, Mr. Michael Cote. Even though Mr. Cote

has retired from Connolly High School (he moved to

Connolly after Coyle/Cassidy), he will continue to

organize the Food Pantry as a volunteer. At least initially,

the Pantry will be called the “Coyle/Cassidy Food Pantry

at St. Anthony Church” because people recognize the

Coyle/Cassidy name. The Coyle/Cassidy Food Pantry

was run by students and their families. We will use a

similar model here. The pantry will be a Service Project

for grades 6-9 of our Faith Formation program. We plan

on making this a Service project not only for students, but

parents as well as was done at Coyle/Cassidy. Our Faith

Formation program is called “Faith Formation” , and not

C.C.D.” because the purpose of the program is to help our

youth to grow in faith, and not just learn about the faith.

Service is an important aspect of our faith, thus should be

a big part of our Faith Formation program.

IMPORTANT PARENT MEETING for GRADES 3,

Sunday 10/3/21

Grades 1, 2 & 6 – 9am Mass with their Families at St.

Mass in the Parish Center until 11am.

IMPORTANT PARENT MEETING for GRADES 1

& 2 will be held during classes beginning at 10 am.

Grades 7, 8, & 9 – Class begins at 5:30pm at St. Jude’s

Parish Hall followed by the 7pm Mass in the Church.

Please note - NEW PLAN FOR GRADE 6: Plans for grades 6-8 to be all together at St. Jude on

Sunday night were made at the start of the summer when

we thought that the pandemic was on the wane. It is not;

thus we are going to make change in our junior high

program. Instead of grade 6 being with grades 7-8 we are

going to put grade 6 on Sunday morning from 10-11:10 in

the Hall at St. Anthony. We encourage 6th grade families

to attend the 9am Mass followed by class. The reason for

this change is that we are trying to decrease the numbers

of students who are together at the same time.

FAITH FORMATION REGISTRATION: We are still

accepting Faith Formation registrations for this year. You

can register in the Faith Formation office on Tuesdays and

Thursdays from 9am to noon. You can also register on-

line. The Registration fee for 1 child is $30.00, 2 children

$50.00, 3 or more $60.00. Please plan to register AS

SOON AS POSSIBLE!

GRADE 1 & NEW STUDENT REGISTRATION will

be done by meeting with Fr. Fred. Most of the

appointments will be on Saturday morning. You can

register on-line from the Parish web site using sign-up-

genius. Please print and fill out the registration form in

advance in advance of the meeting. Also please bring a

baptism certificate to this meeting if your child was

baptized outside of our 3 Collaborative parishes.

FAMILY MINISTRY MEETING FOR “TRUNK OR

TREAT” EVENT:

A meeting for all those interested in helping out with the

1st Family Ministry event for this year – a Halloween

“Trunk or Treat” – will be held on Thursday, September

30th beginning at 6:30pm at St. Anthony’s Parish

Center. All are welcome to come and share ideas as we

plan for this event in late October. More information on

the actual date and time coming soon!

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD:

What is it?

A program in which the Sunday scripture readings are

proclaimed and explained on a level appropriate to

children (we’ll begin with Grades 1 & 2 this year) at the

9am Mass at St. Anthony’s beginning in late November.

Our hope is to expand this program to the 10:15am at St.

Jude’s next year.

What exactly do they do?

The children come to the altar after the Opening Prayer,

receive a blessing and are sent forth by the Presider to the

Hall, Once there, they may listen either the 1st or 2nd

reading, sing a short psalm (depending on the day) and

then listen to the Gospel of the day. An age-appropriate

reflection of the readings is shared with them through

stories, discussions or pictures – whatever the leader finds

most appropriate to convey the meaning of the scriptures.

The children are then invited to share their own thoughts,

profess a simple Act of Faith, offer their Prayers of the

Faithful and then return to their families in the church at

the beginning of the Preparation of the Gifts.

We are starting to look for all those who might be

interested in working with this ministry. Watch this space

next week for more information regarding a meeting date

and place at the beginning of October!

Twenty-sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Nm 11:25-29 The LORD came down in the cloud and

spoke to Moses. Taking some of the spirit that was on

Moses, the LORD bestowed it on the seventy elders; and

as the spirit came to rest on them, they prophesied. Now

two men, one named Eldad and the other Medad, were not

in the gathering but had been left in the camp. They too

had been on the list, but had not gone out to the tent; yet

the spirit came to rest on them also, and they prophesied

in the camp. So, when a young man quickly told Moses,

"Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp, " Joshua,

son of Nun, who from his youth had been Moses’ aide,

said, "Moses, my lord, stop them." But Moses answered

him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the

people of the LORD were prophets! Would that the

LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!"

Psalm: The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

Jas 5:1-6 Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your

impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your

clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver

have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony

against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire. You have

stored up treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages you

withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are

crying aloud; and the cries of the harvesters have reached

the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on earth in

luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the

day of slaughter. You have condemned; you have

murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance.

Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48 At that time, John said to Jesus,

"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your

name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not

follow us." Jesus replied, "Do not prevent him. There is

no one who performs a mighty deed in my name who can

at the same time speak ill of me. For whoever is not

against us is for us. Anyone who gives you a cup of water

to drink because you belong to Christ, amen, I say to you,

will surely not lose his reward. "Whoever causes one of

these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be

better for him if a great millstone were put around his neck

and he were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you

to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter into life

maimed than with two hands to go into Gehenna, into the

unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut

if off. It is better for you to enter into life crippled than

with two feet to be thrown into Gehenna. And if your eye

causes you to sin, pluck it out. Better for you to enter into

the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to

be thrown into Gehenna, where 'their worm does not die,

and the fire is not quenched.'"
