Tattoos and their Demonic Origin
What Does the Bible Say about Tattoos
“You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I
am the Lord,” Leviticus 19:28.
I know this topic will be a very sensitive one for many people. I believe it is possible to pick up what
God’s opinion may be on this very controversial issue of tattoos. As you all know, many people including
Christians get tattoos on their bodies. You will see people getting tattoos on just about any part of the
body, even on their most intimate personal parts. So if God the Father did not want the Jews back in the
Old Testament to have any type of tattoo, does this same command still apply to all of us in this day and
age? Yes granted, we are no longer under the law, but under grace it doesn’t mean we can start
engaging in activities that were expressly forbidden by the Old Testament!
When God is using the words “any” tattoos and “any” kinds of cuttings in the flesh, He is not making any
exceptions with this kind of activity. It also is an open door to demonic forces. “Nor give place to the
devil” Ephesians 4:27 Here “place” means a legal foothold; an opportunity; a legal right to enter and
occupy and the action of people can disobeying how God feels about something like tattoos give evil
spirits legal right to enter and to oppress them. Evil spirits look for ‘gateways’ to enter people and begin
to control parts of their life. These tattoos are gateways to enter and control the person with the tattoo.
In this material you will see many tattoos which have been picked to show how they are a gateway to be
oppressed. It is paramount to putting a big sign on your body saying come oppress me. You will see
occult, yoga, Zen, and all sorts of tattoos. They all have in common the sin of tattooing the body along
with the symbol which associates with a demon.
In Biblical History when a person would cut themselves, it was done for a reason such as In 1 Kings 18:28
it is the story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Remember the contest that Elijah had with them, He
said call upon Baal, to come down and produce fire, on an altar. The bible says that they shouted and
screamed at Baal to come down, they cut themselves, as there custom allowed, slashed themselves until
blood flowed from their bodies. Baal did not listen. Any kind of self-laceration or marking of the body
has always been associated with paganism and the dead! Those caught up in idol worship and false
gods, would often cut or tattoo themselves. That’s why God said in Lev. 19:28, don’t cut your body or
tattoo it, God did not want his people to be like the pagans.
Did you know that bestiality (sex with animals) is forbidden and only mentioned in the Old Testament.
Does that mean its ok now? What about Lev. 19:29, the verse right after the tattoo verse, Do not
prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land
become full of wickedness, that’s only in the OT. Does it make it ok?
Most of Leviticus 19 are moral commandments that apply not only to Israel but for every New
Testament Christian today. In fact Lev. 19:26-28, clearly condemns pagan, witchcraft and heathen
practices. Verse 26 refers to “enchantment” (witchcraft) and not to observe the times, referring to
astrology. Verse 28 speaks to the pagan demonic practice of cutting into your flesh (Piercing) and
tattooing. The fact is, up until just a few years ago, virtually everyone, including the most liberal
Christian, knew that Tattooing and piercing was clearly forbidden by the word of God.
Historically, the origin of the tattoo is associated with paganism, demonism, Baal worship, shamanism,
mysticism, heathenism, cannibalism and many other pagan beliefs. The tattoo has never been
connected with Bible believing Christians.
Tattoos are strongly connected with spiritual and demonic oppression. Many tattoo artists and
historians attest to this by saying things like, “tattoos have a power and magic all their own”.
Mark chapter 5 contains the familiar account of the devil-possessed man of Gadera. Notice in verse 5,
among the demonic acts, and a tell-tale sign of possession – cutting himself with stones.
1 And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. 2 And
when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean
spirit, 3 Who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains: 4
Because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked
asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him. 5 And always, night
and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones. 6 But
when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him, 7 And cried with a loud voice, and said, What
have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment
me not. 8 For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit. 9 And he asked him, What is
thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many. (Mark 5:1-9)
The morbid practice of cutting oneself and blood-letting has a long and dark history in the demonic
pages of satanism, demonism and the occult.
Lastly, I do not believe the Lord wants Christians getting any kind of tattoo ever. “If anyone defiles the
temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” (1
Corinthians 3:17) Nor do I think non-Christians should get tattoos.
The OM seen with the Lotus flower is
also from yoga spiritualism.
OM pronounced as aum. It is from
yoga and can allow a spirit to bind to
the spine causing back pain, etc. It is a
very popular tattoo.
The Lotus flower is seen in Egyptian,
Hinduism, and Buddhism teachings.
Yoga symbol seen here in different
scripts all reference a false religion of
universalism. This is different types
of OM.
This symbol and those like it are
found on the covers of books of
magic as far back as the 1600’s.
Aztec tattoos of the demon Quetzalcoatl – The Feathered Serpent. The first culture to use the symbol of
a feathered serpent as an important religious and political symbol was Teotihuacan. At temples such as
the aptly named "Quetzalcoatl temple" in the Ciudadela complex, feathered serpents figure prominently
and alternate with a different kind of serpent head. The earliest depictions of the feathered serpent
deity were fully zoomorphic, depicting the serpent as an actual snake, but later the demon began
acquiring human features.
The serpent and the dragon are
certainly connected. The evil here is
easily seen.
The fire bird or phoenix tattoo.
Phoenix Symbolism: The mythical
phoenix animal is the keeper of the
fire in all of creation. It represents
transformation, death, and rebirth in
its fire. It represents a powerful
spiritual symbol.
The lower back is a common place for
tattoos. This tattoo is a Yinyang .
Mandala tattoo from spiritual yoga
Mandala tattoo from spiritual yoga
Mandala tattoo from spiritual yoga
and mandalas are often grouped with
other symbols.
All four of these are dream catchers
from American Indian folklore to
ward off evil spirits. In tattooing these
patterns one is asking for a demon
connected with Indian folklore.
Chakra tattoos from yoga, there are 7
Chakras that represent energy
centres in the body in which energy
flows through. The word 'chakra' is
derived from the sanskrit word
meaning 'wheel'. Literally translated
from the Hindi it means 'Wheel of
spinning Energy'. It is very easy to see
the demonic origin of these ideas.
Tribal Tattoos link back to animism
and witchcraft, tribal art is the visual
arts and material culture of
indigenous peoples.
Evil Eye in a Mandala Tattoo, the evil
eye is a curse or legend believed to
be cast by a malevolent glare, usually
given to a person when they are
unaware.
