Go Deep Making a Commitment to Intentional Spiritual Formation

Do you feel that you are more like Jesus today than you were on the day of your baptism? Are you becoming a more loving, moral, just, and compassionate person at home, at work, and in the world? Have you ever made a firm commitment to your own spiritual growth? Are you growing deeper in your relationship with Christ and the Church, the Body of Christ? (The two always go together; you can’t have one without the other.) For the next three months you are invited to “go deep” as we dive into the New Testament Letter to the Ephesians. Beginning August 7th, it will be our text during worship on Sundays. On Monday, August 1, you are invited to read one of Ephesians’ six chapters per day during each week (Monday chap.1, Tuesday chap.2, etc). You will receive a Pastoral Letter this week with more information and a guide to pray Ephesians as you read it. Make a commitment now to go deeper in your spiritual formation through worship and prayer, scripture and community.

Children’s Ministry News: It’s been a great (and short!) summer with lots of fun and sun (and even more heat!), but now it’s time to kick off our regular school year full of activities. Our big Wednesday night kick off will be a Splash Party! We’ll gather in the grassy area in front of the office for an inflatable slip and slide, water balloons, sidewalk chalk paint, hot dogs, and more! All this fun happens on Wednesday, August 3 at 5:30 – 7:00. Our regular Wednesday night schedule will begin the following Wednesday. We have classes for 3K – 6th grade, and as of the writing of this article, we still need teachers for Mission Friends. Please contact me if you are willing to serve. On August 7th we will recognize our new first graders and give them a Bible in the 11:00 worship service. This is the time they transition from our preschool department to the children’s department, and we honor that and their new ability to read by giving them a Bible and welcoming them into the full worship service. To help them make the transition, I will be teaching a Working on Worship (WOW) class for our new 1st graders each Sunday in August during the children’s church time. As you see them in worship, welcome them and affirm them as part of our worshipping community of faith! Kim Mason Minister to Children

Preschool News

The preschool is so excited to be getting back

into the swing of things. School starts back on

August 8th and many activities will be

happening before then.

coming year as well as recognizing the new

small reception in the new library!

Like last year, we will be asking for food

donations to be brought to church on that

morning. We have a few Gluten Free children

attending this year and are going to do our

best to accommodate that need. Any snacks

that are gluten free are much appreciated.

Youth News:

I can’t believe the summer is over already! It’s been an awesome couple of months spending more time with the youth since they were out of school. Now, it’s time to get back in the swing of a new youth group year!

Starting the second week of August we will be returning to our school year schedule. Please, take note:

Sunday nights - 6:00-8:00 CONNECT - dinner & bible study for all youth (Also, youth choir at 5:00.)

Wednesday nights - 6:00-7:15 pulse 7&8 - small group for 7th & 8th graders

Thursday nights - 6:00-7:15 pulse high - small group for high schoolers

On Sunday, August 7th we will have a parent meeting at 5:00pm to welcome families of new youth and give information for all parents. Please, mark your calendars as it is vital that we all be on the same page as we start a new year in the life of our youth group!

I appreciate the faithful love and support our youth get from their church family! Your care and encouragement of them - and me - means more than you know!

YMT:

This summer we were blown away by the generosity of our church family as we embarked on the church’s 40th Youth Mission Trip! We received a large number of what we asked for from the donation supply list, almost double what was fulfilled last year! We also ended up exceeding our monetary goal before we left for Jackson’s Gap, AL. This was a huge blessing for the Advance Crew, meaning they did not have to buy as much extra when they first arrived as usual. It was also a huge blessing to the main body as we were able to use that money for supplies to work and build at Camp ASCCA. Please know that all you gave went to a good cause and is fully appreciated by the staff, leaders, adults, and youth who were on the trip!

To see pictures from our trip that show the work we did and the fun we had, please visit the Jasper YMT Facebook page, or check out the church website at www.fbcjasper.com/youth-mission-photo-gallery.

Thank you, again! In Grace, Annie Sutton

Mission Update:

Missionary Craig spoke during the Sunday School hour back in April about a the effort to bring a 24/7 Satellite and Online TV Broadcast to SE Asia.

The funding has been secured and is already broadcasting!

This is a broad seed sowing effort as it will share the gospel with millions of unreached homes all day, every day.

If you are interested in supporting this venture, you can make a donation to CSO in care of Act Beyond through the church.

Just designate for the broadcast. The Lord is moving!!!
