WE

Weekly Focus:

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines unity as “the condition of being in harmony.” In Romans 12:3-8, the

Apostle Paul addresses unity within the context of the church. Although God has given us each individually

various gifts and talents, we are still part of one body. Over the course of the month of May the preaching and teaching

will focus on what unity looks like in the context of the church, the family, and the larger society. “By the way, what

does it look like for you? Have you asked God about it?”

Sermon Notes Text Sermon Title

Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. ~Psalm 119:11

Are Family

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. ~ Hebrews 10:24-25

Freedom Bureau Project - The Grove has an opportunity to be involved in a very important work. The Freedman Bureau, which helped to transition emancipated slaves to citizenship, has nearly 4 million records of freed slaves that were recorded when the slaves were emancipated. These records need to be transcribed (indexed) into a database to make them searchable and available to everyone. People around the country have been participating in this project that will help African Americans reconnect to our Civil War-era ancestors. When the project is completed, the records will be searchable online. Experts will be coming to the "Grove" to provide training on Saturday, May 28th at 9:30am. The indexing is not hard to do and will be very fulfilling. You will log on, pull up the scanned documents and enter the names and dates into the fields provided. All you need is a laptop and the ability to read cursive. This is a great opportunity for our youth and families to get involved in our history. The records will be available at the new Smithsonian National Museum of African American History which opens on September 24, 2016. If you are interested in working on this project, please contact Sis. Ronnie Nelson ([email protected] or 301-318-2950).
