Outline of student preparation session & presentation (for student advisers)
Thank you very much for kindly accepting our request to participate in 2011 Social
Business Competition organized by ARUN /ARUN LAB in cooperation with CJCC, as
student advisers. Please find below the detail of student preparation and presentation
sessions, scheduled on 24-25th November. Throughout the 2-days sessions, we ask
you to support students, both Khmer and Japanese, to organize their social business
ideas into a business model and get ready for final presentation.

<Expected role for student advisers: >
Throughout the sessions, students will be divided into 6 groups (3 members /group).
Each group will be mentored by one (or two) adviser(s). Team members will be
announced shortly by ARUN /ARUN LAB.
Group work I & II: During this session, each student group is asked to identify their
‘social problem’ and idea for business solution. Student advisers will help his/her
student group in this process, by providing guidance from aspects of uniqueness of the
idea, expected social impact, whether it sees good business chance, etc.
Short presentation I: Each student group will make short presentation on their
business ideas. All student advisers will sit as review board and provide comments to
each group.
Group work III & IV: Building on discussions in morning session, students will examine
business model for their social business ideas. Student advisers will support his/her
student group by providing guidance needed to make their model clearly covers critical
aspects of business model. Advisers are also welcome to support them in terms of
presentation skills and tools.
Short presentation II: Each student group will make short presentation on their
business model. All student advisers will sit as review board and provide comments to
each group.

Student advisers will provide his/her student group advices to get ready for final
presentations, and feedbacks after the presentation session.
3. Preparing business ideas and models
1) Judgment criteria of final presentation are as below.;
1. Innovativeness: uniqueness of idea, originality
2. Excitement: interesting, exciting, imaginative, creative
3. Reality: business model feasibility
4. Measurability: clear objective, quantitative indicator
5. Social Impact: empowerment of local people, resource distribution, degree of
social impact
*10 points for each aspect (total 50 points)
2) Business model Canvas
Below we suggest some ideas on frameworks for business model formulation - the
“business model canvas” and key elements of business models (the ideas partly build on
following source: www.businessmodelgeneration.com). However, they are merely a
springboard for further discussion: students should be creative and use any framework
they think as useful.
These ‘canvas’ will be also presented to students in preparatory guidance session,
organized by ARUN on 2nd-3rd week of November, as examples of how to formulate
ideas into business model.
