Global demand for Stevia is on the rise with increased R&D efforts in terms of higher quality of final product. Actually is growing with high double digit growth rate.
In Greece the challenge is the lack of an expert greenhouse multiplication facility, which will be in a position to provide substantial number of plants to potential producers on a persistent rate and at the highest quality.
In addition there is a lack of future forward agreed contracts for the farmers securing them the demand for their production.
Below there is a comparative table of alternative productions and the yields per hectare by year.
Kilo per hectare Price per kilo Proffit
Stevia 4000kg 3,2$ 12800$
Corn 12000kg 0,20$ 2400$
Cotton 4500kg 0.50$ 2500$
