the Karl Heusner MemorialHospital in Belize City wherehe underwent a CAT scanexamination. He was released onFriday evening and transported byfamily private car to his home inSan Ignacio where he isrecuperating. After several back and forth, bythe Coleman boys, to the SanIgnacio police station, they wereeventually arrested and jointlycharged for wounding FranciscoNavarijo. Otto and Brandon Colemanappeared in the San Ignaciocourtroom of Magistrate NardaMorgan on Tuesday, July 31,where the both pled not guilty tothe joint charge. Appearing onbehalf of the victim was attorneyAnna Rachel Montejo who, withthe concurrence of ProsecutorGeorge Gomez objected to thegranting of bail on the grounds ofthe severity of the injury inflictedupon the victim. The submissionwas upheld by MagistrateMorgan resulting in thedefendants being remanded to jailuntil Friday, August 17.

While there are conflictingreports from both sides as towhat actually transpired duringthe material time, there is therather bizarre allegation, on thepart of the sister of the victimwho informed that after ensuringthat her brother was out ofdanger and resting at thehospital, she visited the policestation at around four o’clockthat Wednesday morningrequesting for the police torecord a statement from her. Shereportedly met the “sleepingpoliceman” on duty who was notfound sleeping on this occasion. The sister reportedly informedthe “sleeping policeman” of herintent to have the police, in theprocess of the investigation, record a statement from her. Thesister alleges that the policeman, acting as judge, jury andexecutioner blatantly refused torecord a statement and in theprocess, like a judge, told her thather brother was at fault and chasedher from the station. Latest information indicatesthat, with Attorney OswaldTwist now in their corner, the

two defendants could, with theconcurrence of MagistrateMorgan, be released on bail

BENQUE VIEJO TOWN,Cayo, Wednesday, August 1,2012: Adding true meaning to theterm “Community Policing”, thetop brass and file of the BenqueViejo Police Sub-Formationtoday hit the streets of thiswestern-most municipality in ahouse to house visit. From a distance, today’sactivity was much like the houseto house campaign undertakenonly by politicians and theircampaigners during the electionseason. Accompanied by elements ofthe lower ranks, taking notes, thetwo most senior commandingofficers of the formations todayvisited several houses in thecommunity to listen to theconcerns of the people. Although far in between, theactivity was nothing new to theformation as it was first startedin 2010. During today’s visit Benqueñoswere invited to speak their mindand tell the police and membersof the neighborhood watch groupof improvements they would like

to see within the community andalso to suggest ways in which thepolice can improve the deliveryof service in order to makeBenque Viejo Town an even saferplace to live, work and recreate. The visit today was mostlyconfined to an area designated asZone 4 which is the largest, mostpopulated and most progressivepart of the town. The visiting team of policemenand civilian members of the

neighborhood watch group tookthe opportunity today to issuewatch guide booklets andcalendars in spanish withemergency phone numbers. While Benque Viejo police andthe neighborhood watch groupacknowledges that the crime ratein the community is the lowestin the country, they are not takinganything for granted as the effortcontinues to keep in contact withmembers of the community. Some of the comments sharedby those visited includes therequest for more police patrols;improvement in the police

public relation skills, improve-ment in the condition of streets, more street lights, bushingof overgrown house lots andpoor drainage whic allows waterto accumulate thereby creatingfertile breeding grounds formosquitoes. Those visited expressed appre-ciation to the visiting team forthe effort being made to visitthem and to listen to theirconcerns with a view at enhanc-ing the level of security serviceto the community. It was generally accepted thatthe challenge facing the police iscompounded with the service ofa single vehicle which is pressedinto 24 hours service for therather large community. Those participating in today’sevent included the officercommanding the Sub-Formation,Assistant Superintendent ofPolice Dinsdale Thompson;newly promoted InspectorJesus Palma, Sgt. 715 NasarioTzib, PC# 1165 JermaineYoung, PC# 191 KingsleyDuncan, PC# 357 Curtis Card,PC #1080 Wilbert Myvett,PC# 1205 Carlos Salgueroand Zone 4 Captain/SpecialConstable Samuel “Sam”Bruce.

Today, many businesses areutilizing the open floor planwhere the majority of employeeswork in cubicles set up in themiddle of the workplace, sur-rounded by offices along the pe-rimeter. In such close quarters, employees working side-by-sidein cubicles need to rememberone word – EMPATHY. Itmeans to vicariously experienceor understand the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes ofothers. Simply put, treat peoplethe same way you want them totreat you. Do not talk loudly while acoworker is on the phone orgossip about coworkers if youdo not want the same done to you. When referring to relationshipsbetween coworkers, JacquelineWhitmore, founder of EtiquetteExpert.com said, “It’s like amarriage. It’s the little thingsthat get under your skin andmount up after awhile.” Avoid getting under yourcoworkers skin and the ensuingconflict by considering othersand follow these general office

etiquette guidelines: · Be on time to work andscheduled meetings; do notsneak out early – people aredepending on you to get a jobdone in a pre-determined set ofhours · Adhere to the organization’sdress code; do not wear reveal-ing or tattered clothing or flipflops – it’s important to appearprofessional because as an em-ployee, you not only representyourself, but the organization · Use perfume and colognesparingly – coworkers may haveallergies or sensitive noses · Be respectful and friendly toeveryone – good rule to followin general · Do not tell offensive or dirtyjokes.

· Hold the door for others · Use your manners – knockbefore entering an office, do notinterrupt conversations, and sayplease and thank you · Use your indoor voice –talking loudly in open areas maydisturb coworkers on thephone, in a meeting, or trying toconcentrate · Use a tissue and washyour hands immediately aftercoughing or sneezing – this is theeasiest way to prevent the spreadof germs · Avoid chewing gum and poppingbubbles – eat a mint instead · Eat lunch in the designatedeating areas and not at yourdesk – keep your desk free ofcrumbs and keep smelly food outof the main office area · Clean your own dishes and donot leave food in the refrigerator– the office cleaning service isnot responsible for kitchenmaintenance · Put your cell phone on vibrate– it’s distracting to hear variousringtones throughout the office · Do not use your personalsocial media accounts – it’s an

Office Etiquette for Every Employee unproductive use of valuable time · Do not gossip about or criticizecoworkers – no one likes to betalked about behind their back andit’s just not nice · Take responsibility for yourmistakes – apologize to allparties involved and correct themistakes immediately · Do not whistle or sing whilewalking through the office – it’sdistracting to coworkers · Keep your radio to a minimum– your favorite station may notbe your coworkers’ favoritestation · Respect your coworkers’privacy – do not listen to phoneconversations · Keep your work area neat andtidy – treat the office as if itwere your home.

CAYORENTALS

BY: Marie T. Russell Someone asked me the otherday if loving myself and puttingmyself first was selfish. As I endeavored to explain thedifference, I realized that there isa fine line between the two. The major qualification, whentalking about loving yourself, iswhether you are referring to theself or Self. These are twodistinct different levels of aware-ness. ‘Selfish’ comes from the levelof “ needy, greedy” and the“don’t have enough” syndrome.Or as Webster defines selfish —“being overly concerned withone’s interest and having littleconcern for others”. Being selfish is ignoring theHighest Good, and focusing onlyon our own little “desires andneeds”. On the other hand, the ‘Self’ inSelf-Love knows that we are of aHigher Essence and that in itsbounty the Universe has providedfor us all. It knows that lovingoneself means loving the “self”in all others as well, since we areall “one and the same”. We are all spirit living a human

experience and here to live andlearn. Here to “be”. Once we rest secured in thatknowledge, we move away fromthe need to be selfish. We thenknow for a fact that there is morethan enough for everyone, andthat we are always safe andprotected. Our actions will stemfrom the Higher Self... from aninnate knowing that what we dois for the highest good of all —including ourselves — becausewe are listening to thepromptings of Spirit. When we love ourselves, weare acknowledging our divinenature. We therefore, forgiveourselves for at times havingchosen darkness over light, hatred over love, and fear overfaith. Some say that when wemake mistakes, those mistakesmake us evil. That is not true!We simply have temporarilyforgotten the truth of who we are.We are still Children of God nomatter what we have done in thepast. As Jesus said to MaryMagdalene, “Your sins havebeen forgiven. Go and sin nomore!” We must take this same

attitude with ourselves... and withthe people in our lives. We must learn to love andaccept ourselves completely —both in our perfection and ourfoibles. We need to forgiveourselves. We need to realize thatwe will make mistakes at times, and that these mistakes are partof the learning process. Have compassion for yourselfand do not judge yourself harshlyfor making mistakes (or sins, ifyou prefer that terminology). You may have believed that youwere “bad” and you wore thebehavior that fit the belief. Youthus were like a sheep in wolvesclothing — a child of God whotried on the costume of the“fallen angel”. Remind yourselfoften that you have outgrownthe costume and the role.Acknowledge the truth of whoyou are... Divine. Loving yourself meansacknowledging who you are, where you’ve been, and whereyou are going. To determine if

Selfish - Selfless - Self-Love your behavior is selfish, askyourself if your action is beingdirected by the ‘self’ or the‘Self.’ When in doubt, ask yourconscience... If you don’t believeyou have one, check again. We allknow deep inside when we arebeing honest, loving, supportive,or when our behavior is directedby fear, lack, and resentment. Examine your motives, listen tothe voice of your Higher Self. Itwill always lead you on the pathof Light, Love, Peace, Wisdom, and Joy. Listen more to your Self— your self with a capital S. Letthe fears, doubts, and resentmentsfall by the wayside... they areincompatible with the ‘Self.’They do not fit in the aura of abeing devoted to Light and Love. Those are crutches that are notneeded — you are already whole. It’s time to return to your trueessence... Stand up and realizethat you are healed of the pastsimply by your desire to “sin nomore”. Become who you reallyare...Your actions will come fromthe Higher Self — not self-ish.

The men are Russell WinstonHyde, 42, Belizean businessman andRoger Banner, 25, Belizean laborer. They both gave their address as #12Tapir Street, Belmopan. The charges against Hyde andBanner stems from a report made bya 25 year old Belizean secretaryof a San Martin area address inBelmopan. According to police the complain-ant informed that she was socializingat the Belmopan Day event onSunday, July 29, 2012 and that atabout 9:30 pm she reportedly leftthe area in a grey SUV driven by Hydewith Banner sitting in a back seatbehind her. She said that while she has knownabout Hyde for around 4 years shedid not actually KNOW him.Notwithstanding, she boarded thevehicle with the promise to be takenhome. She reportedly agreed to firstgo for drinks at the popular CabanaNightclub in Belmopan. She said thatwhilst on the way to the nightclub sheobserved that both Hyde and Bannerwere drunk. SAN IGNACIO TOWN, Cayo,Thursday, August 2, 2012: Belize Defence Force (BDF)Captain, Ian Cunha, 35, is todayin custody at the San Ignaciopolice station after beingremanded on firearms andhandling stolen goods charges. San Ignacio police are nowtreading lightly despite havingobtained the warrant, takingthis officer off his work placeat Fairweather Camp in PuntaGorda where he commands acompany of soldiers known asEcho Company, detaining him atthe police station in Punta GordaTown, transporting him toBelmopan and eventually to SanIgnacio where he was criminallycharged and taken before a courtand now with this 15-yearveteran, decorated, senior officerof the BDF now on remand, thepolice appear to be taking a handsoff approach. Consideration forthe treatment of Captain Cunhahas gone to the point where, instead of being shipped off to

Hattieville, as is the case withordinary prisoners, he is beingheld in San Ignacio while hisattorney seeks bail by way of anapplication to the Supreme Court. Interestingly, the allegationagainst Captain Cunha goes wayback to December 5, 2011,almost eight months ago. Why,in the presence of all theevidence gathered within a fewdays of the incident, did it takeso long for the police to arrestthis military officer? In the incident, the recordingfrom a surveillance camerainside the San Ignacio policestation revealed that between4:20 and 4:36 on the morning ofMonday, December 5, 2011, thediarist on duty, PC 835 SelvynMyers fell asleep at the frontdesk. As the policeman slept,a BDF soldier, identified asAdrian Gregory Francis, whohad arrived a few minutesearlier, leaned over the sleepingpoliceman, opened a locker andremoved therefrom a 9mm Smith

& Wesson brand pistol withserial #ARK4703 loaded with amagazine containing 10 roundsof matching ammunition, beingthe property of Gareth Gentle andAnchor Security. It is alleged that the soldiertook the loaded gun to PriceBarracks and reportedly offeredit for sale to his CommandingOfficer, Captain Cunha. Later thatsame day two senior officersfrom the San Ignacio policestation visited the BDFHeadquarters at Price Barracksin Ladyville where the gun, themagazine and the bullets werehanded to them by Captain Cunhawho reportedly confirmed thatthe soldier had offered it to himfor sale. The soldier was

subsequently arrested andcharged for keeping anunlicensed firearm, possessionof unlicensed ammunition andtheft. He is currently on remandat the Hattieville prison. Afterseveral adjournments, thissoldier is scheduled to reappearin court on Monday, September3, 2012 which is exactly thesame day that Captain Cunha isscheduled to reappear in courtafter being arraigned in thecourtroom of Magistrate NardaMorgan, on Wednesday, August1, 2012 on charges of keepingfirearm without a gun license, keeping ammunition without agun license and handling stolengoods. Captain Cunha has sinceenlisted the services of attorneyEllis Arnold SC.
