From the Pastor: Racism,prejudice,racialpro ilingandassociatedviolencearegravesinsagainstGod’scommandmentoflove.AsfollowersofChrist,wehaveagreatdutynotonlytorejectthesesinfulbehaviors,butalsotopromotedialogue,tolerance,acceptance,andpeace-making. ThemostrecentviolenteventsperpetratedbybothpoliceandresidentsofcitiesinMinnesotaandLouisianademonstrate,thatintheUnitedStatesofAmerica,inter-racialpeaceandharmonyhavenotbeenachieved.Infact,suspicionsandtensionsamongdifferentracialandethniccommunitieshaveincreased. Howcanwemakeadifferenceandhelpinterracialreconciliationpossible? TheGoodNewsofJesusChristteachesusthatJesuscameintotheworldtorevealGodto“allthenations.”So,evenifJesuscame irstforthepeopleofIsrael,healsocametounderstandthathismessagewasmeaningfulandliberatingforeveryone.EventhosewhohadnotbelievedinGodwereattractedbyhismessageofsalvationandforgiveness. Jesus’popularityamongthosewhodidnothavepowerorstatusinthesocietyoftheirtimeteachesusthathisattractivenesswasextensive.ThemajorityofthepeopleofJesustimehadbeenpushedtotheedges,forcedtostandaside,andtheywereexcludedinfavorofthosewhohadpower.JesusbroughtthemandusamessagethatGoddoesnotlookatourworldlystatusorpower.Godlooksatourhearts.GoddesiresthatweloveoneanotherasJesushimselfshowedushowtolove,unsel ishly.
