It’s time again for the annual Holiday Food Distribution. Starting Nov. 12 and running through Dec. 13 the Cedar County Community Services office will start making appointments for the food certificates. A family household cannot be over 185% of the income guidelines and proof of income must be presented at the time of the application. It is preferred that Families contact the office at 563-886-1726 to set up an appointment in order to sign up. Walk-in clients will be accepted as time allows but cannot be guaranteed immediate or same day assistance. The program signup will run through Dec. 13, which will be the last day appointments will be given. Families have until Dec. 31, 2019 to use the certificate. If you are unable to meet in person, contact the office during business hours as other arrangements may be available. A family member can also sign you up as long as they have the necessary documentation. Family Foods in Tipton has been a generous donor and supporter of this program. If it weren’t for their generosity this program would not be possible. Participants will be able to use their certificate at the store and will receive 20% off their purchase, not to exceed the total amount of $25.00. The recipient will be prohibited from purchasing tobacco products, alcohol, soda drinks or deli items with the certificate or the 20% off. This certificate can be used on fresh fruit, meat, dairy, frozen or canned food items. There are many county residents that contribute to the success of this program. Each and every donation makes a difference. This program is successful only through the support of donations from residents and businesses. If you would be interested in making a fi-nancial donation, please make your check out to: Cedar County General Assistance. Those donations can be mailed to the office at Cedar County Community Services, 400 Cedar Street, Tipton, IA 52772. If you have questions regarding this program or suggestions, please call 563-886-1726.
