PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS God our Father, You made each of us to use our gifts in the Body of Christ. We ask that You inspire young people whom You call to the priesthood and consecrated life to courageously follow Your will. Send workers into Your great harvest so that the Gospel is preached, the poor are served with love, the suffering are comforted, and Your people are strengthened by sacraments. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Virtual Baby Bottles for Life Every year CCW runs Baby Bottles for Life to raise money for Waterleaf. Waterleaf is an organization that helps women in crisis pregnancies choose life for their baby instead of abortion. Unfortunately in the current Covid19 climate, we cannot distribute the actual baby bottles as we have in the past. So, we are doing a virtual baby bottle collection for the entire month of October.. There are 2 ways to donate: 1. Go to the website http://fundeasy.com/m/4955006/ There is a link from our parish website. 2. Write a check to Waterleaf and place in the collection basket at any weekend Mass. Thanks for you generosity and love for these unborn children.

The October NCCW Member Call will be October 21st at 4:45 pm (PT), 5:45pm (MT), 6:45 pm (CT), and 7:45 pm (ET). Call in number for ALL calls: 515-606-5163 Access Code: 703993# Please join us on October 21st during the Week of Prayer to End Hunger for the October member call featuring Jane Carter. Jane writes: “As we approach the celebration of World Hunger Day (Oct 16th) in this year of the Covid-19 Pandemic, hunger awareness has heightened across the United States and around the world. From the evening news reports to increased appeals from organizations such as Second Harvest, Feed America, Bread for the World and Catholic Relief Services, we are aware that hunger awareness is at an all-time high. Our parishes are open in different ways from diocese to diocese and our CCW meetings are still remote or looking very different so it’s time for us to think of new and unusual ways to reach out—both personally and as Councils—to “feed the hungry.” I will share some ideas, and if your parish or diocese has come up with a great idea to address hunger, call in prepared to share!”

St. John Paul II-Karol Józef Wojtyla, born on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice, Poland, was ordained a priest in 1946, a bishop in 1958, was appointed archbishop of Kraków in 1964, and elevated to the College of cardinals in 1967. When he was elected the 264th successor of Peter in 1978, he became the youngest pope since Pius IX 100 years before and the first Polish pope. John Paul II visited every continent except Antarctica, logged over 1,000,000 miles, and greeted hundreds of millions of the faithful through his travels and papal audiences. He opened dialogues with Protestant denominations; visited Auschwitz, a Jewish synagogue, and a Muslim mosque; and made pilgrimages to Orthodox countries where no pope had ever been. His legacy includes more than a dozen encyclicals and scores of apostolic letters, constitutions, and exhortations. He beatified and canonized more than 1,000 men and women from all walks of life. He was tireless in his work for the poor and powerless, speaking out against war, economic injustice, political oppression, and what he called the industrialized world s culture of death. Pope John Paul II s ultimate homily was his own life, characterized by unshakable faith, a charismatic personality, heartfelt prayer, moral vision, global evangelism, and tireless advocacy for human dignity and political and religious freedom.

Canonized on April 27, 2014—Feast Day October 22nd
