ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE PARISH HALL KITCHEN -- READY FOR REFURBISHING! Dear Parishioners of St. John the Apostle, The time has come for our 50+ year old parish hall kitchen to get a badly needed facelift! Father Rosenbaum and the Finance Council have approved and will fund the majority of the cost of this project. The project timeline is 6 weeks beginning in June, 2020. We’re looking forward to repairing and updating this space for all of our members to use and enjoy, and we would appreciate your support for this project benefitting our church community. The Kitchen Project committee is asking for your donations to cover the cost of the new appliances. Donations in any amount are welcome. Just place your donation in an envelope marked Kitchen Project and drop it in the collection basket at Mass or send it to the parish office. Prayer Service for Corona Virus and an End to Racial Inequity

CCW is hosting a parish wide prayer service for COVID19 and an end to racial inequity. All parishioners are invited to join us on Tuesday, July 14th at 6:00 PM. We will meet in the church parking lot. Since we will be outside, our rain/excessive heat back up date will be July 21st. Bring your lawn chairs so we can spread out and be socially distant. Following the prayer service, we will be having an optional discussion about racial discrimination and other related matters happening in our country right now. This is meant to be an open and frank dialog about the issues at hand and what we can do to help remedy the situation. This will be a non-political discussion. We are hoping that this will be a very interactive discussion and that we can all learn from each other. However, you are not required to speak if you are not comfortable. You can just listen and hopefully learn. Hope you can join us.

Basilica, term used to designate certain official buildings in the time of the Roman Empire, later adapted, as was the architectural style of such buildings, for Christian use. The word itself has Greek origins and means “king’s hall”; Christian use refers to Christ as the king of kings. Currently the term is used to designate a certain church of historical significance that continues to play an important part in the religious life of a least a particular region. In addition to the major basilicas, all of which are located in Rome, the Holy See honors other significant churches with this title. The insignia of these minor basilicas include a red and yellow striped umbrella (It., ombrellino) reminiscent of those carried over imperial and papal authorities, the papal coat-of-arms over the door, and a bell (tintinabellum) recalling those once used to warn people of the approach of a papal procession. Basilicas are expected to celebrate with greater solemnity than other churches certain feast days related to the Petrine ministry and to commemorate certain historical days in the life of the current pope. In addition they are to be models for liturgical celebration and places of pilgrimage for the faithful. Particular indulgences, unavailable in other churches, may be gained at basilicas.
