Catholic Relief Services March 26, 2017 Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these

least brothers of mine, you did for me. (Mt 25:40).

Today, we are reminded that

Jesus identified himself with

our poorest brothers and sisters.

The Catholic Relief Services Collection serves

Jesus in the victims of human trafficking, those

who suffer from unjust laws, and those who need

pastoral care and humanitarian assistance across

the globe. Through supporting today’s collection,

you help Jesus in disguise. Please be generous.

Next Sunday there will be

a second collection for the Building Fund. One of the air conditioning units in the parish

hall stopped working early this month. It was

15-years old and the cost to repair exceeded the

cost to replace. Thanks to your generous contribu-

tions in March, we were able to replace this unit.

There was also some work needed on the air

handlers on the front three units. There is a total

of five air conditioning units in the parish hall.

We are most grateful for your stewardship and

our ability to pay for these replacements and

repairs as the work is needed.

Altar Server of the Year

Phillip Dvorak—St. John Vianney This Sunday, March 26th,

there will be a special

Mass at the Cathedral of

St. Jude, honoring all

altar servers in the

diocese of St. Petersburg.

An altar server from each

parish in the Diocese will

be personally presented

with an “Altar Server of

the Year Award.” Phillip Dvorak, a senior in

high school, is our Altar

Server of the Year.

Congratulations to Phillip

and his family! Thank

you for all your years of

dedicated service. All altar servers will receive a

certificate of appreciation. Thank you to all of

St. John Vianney’s altar servers! Serving at the altar, is a privileged way to draw closer

to Jesus, which in turn enables you to open yourselves

to others, to journey together, to set demanding goals

and to find the strength to achieve them.

—Pope Benedict

Lent Almsgiving also helps free people from the obsession of

possession, from the fear of losing what they have and

from the sadness of not sharing their well-being with

others.

Operation Gratitude

St. John Vianney Catholic School My name is Timmy Dees

and I am an 8th grade student

at St. John Vianney. I invite

you to join me in taking part in a community service

project called Operation Gratitude. It is an organiza-

tion that works to raise money, resources and have

people write letters for active and retired military. I am asking you and/or your child(ren) to write a letter

or make a drawing, expressing your gratitude and

thankfulness to veterans or active military. In the

letter, express how much it means for them to sacrifice

their lives for you and me. I ask that you work on this

as a family. When writing your letter, please specify on the letter/

picture to whom you are writing to: a deployed troop

(currently overseas in harm’s way), veteran (served

our country in the past), or new recruit (just completed

boot camp and has sworn to serve for the next

4+ years). All of them deserve to be thanked for their

commitment and bravery. Share a little about yourself (family, hobbies, work,

school, pets, travel). Talk about life and interests

(sports, weather, music, movies, food, books).

Can’t find the words? Consider drawing or painting

a picture instead; please add a note to kids’ drawings

with their age (please avoid glitter). The only thing I ask you not to do is talk about politics

or religion in excess; however, saying you pray for

them is wonderful. Make sure to write only your first name and not last

name and if you would like a response then please

include our parish name and address: St. John Vianney

Catholic Church, 445 82nd Avenue, St. Pete Beach,

FL 33706. Please place your letter/drawing in the box that is

located in the vestibule on or before April 9th. For more information or questions, please email me at

[email protected]

Was She Speaking to You?

Christ Renews His Parish This weekend you will hear personal invitations

from the altar to attend the upcoming women’s

retreat. These invitations are from women who

are part of the retreat team. In a

few brief words they are opening

their hearts to invite you to perhaps

the most important weekend of your life if only

you will listen and hear the spirit calling you.

It’s hard to describe how this short time spent

with the Lord can bring you happiness, love,

peace, answers, joy, friendship and above all, a

closer relationship with the Lord. You may walk

in not knowing a single person, but you will

leave knowing you have just met a room full of

new friends who love the Lord and freely share

their life’s journey with you. There are just so

many spaces to fill so please, don’t miss this

special invitation. Bring a friend or a family

member with you for a weekend you will

never forget. Here’s what some of the women from the last re-

treat had to say: I have learned to love more deeply, to not be ashamed of

myself or my past. That everyone is not perfect...it has

brought me comfort, solace, friendship, love and a

deeper, better place in my relationship with God…” The retreat was so great for me. I totally felt love from

8 a.m. Saturday, right through the end on Sunday.

I feel closer to God than I have ever felt. Women’s Christ Renews His Parish Retreat
