St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church

2014 First Step Programs: Continuing education regarding

marriage and divorce in the Catholic Church Attempting to pick up the pieces of one’s life after the tragedy of divorce is complex and demanding. One of the significant issues that a person faces is their place in the Church. Does the Church still care about me even though I am divorced? Am I allowed to go to Mass? Can I receive communion? How can the Church help me heal? If I decide to marry again, what do I have to do? The Tribunal of the Diocese of Cleveland is continuing to offer its very successful First Step Program in order to help individuals deal with these questions. The Church’s teachings on marriage, divorce, and remarriage are of-ten misunderstood. This program is offered to help eve-ryone, especially those who have experienced divorce, learn more about Catholic teaching in these areas.

Everyone is welcome to: Deepen their knowledge of the Church’s teaching on

marriage… Learn about the Church’s ministry to the divorced/

separated in the Diocese… Hear the true facts about the annulment process and

how to submit a case… Discover a path to healing after divorce.

In any endeavor, taking the “first step” is always the most difficult. The First Step Program helps individuals to navigate the path of healing and closure, of which the annulment process is an important aspect. Please refer to the Tribunal website (dioceseofcleveland.org/tribunal) for testimonials about the program from past participants.

The schedule for the general meetings in 2014:

May 15, 7 pm, St. John Vianney Parish, Mentor Sept. 23, 7 pm, St. Ambrose Parish, Brunswick

Oct. 14, 7 pm, Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Cuyahoga Falls

Boy Scouts Earn Religious Medals: On Sunday May, 4th, 2014, several young men from troop 506 were recognized for completing requirement for Catholic scouting emblems. Bishop Lennon presided over the Mass at St. Johns Cathedral and presented the boys with their Medals. Seven young men earned the Ad Altare Dei ( “To the Alter of God”) which is the study of the seven sacraments. They are Nolan Flanagan, Nick Reilman, Zachary Reil-man, Jack wills, Adam Salek, Robbie Salek, and Gus Wil-son. Mike Sweet facilitated the group. Five young men earned the Pope Pius XII – Vocation in Life emblem. They were Justin Austin ,James McKinnon, Anthony Supan, Thomas Supan, James Wilson. Ed Mar-tin facilitated this group in their work. Scouts who have received all four Catholic Scouting Emblems including the Light of Christ, Parvuli dei and

above mentioned have earned Pillars of Faith Award. They are Justin Austin, Anthony Supan, and Thomas Supan.

The Irish Pallottine Fathers Next Saturday, Saint Francis Xavier will be visited by Rev. Noel O’Connor, SCA from the Irish Pallottine Fa-thers. This community numbers over two thousand, four hundred members who are engaged in the various works of the apostolate on all continents. Named for St. Vin-cent Pallotti who founded the community to promote the revival of faith and charity in the world. He believed that every Christian is called to be an apostle in virtue of our baptism and placed great emphasis on the developing the lay postulate and the missionary outreach of the church. His vision represents the particular charism of the Pallottine Fathers today. The Irish Pallottine Fathers opened their first mis-sion in Tanzania in 1940 in the Diocese of Mbulu, later extending to the Diocese of Singida, and successively to the Archdiocese of Nairobi in Kenya. Thirty-two mission-aries work in ten parishes; most of which cover the exten-sive territories with several mission stations. There are currently thirty seminarians in formation. One of the missionaries has established an institute for the education and rehabilitation of children with special needs. Please welcome Rev. O’Connor and pray for the oth-er missionaries pursuing this mission.

Happy Mother’s Day: Please congratulate all of our new first communicants this weekend who may be wearing their dresses and ties for Masses on this weekend. About 120 second graders celebrated their First Eucharist this Saturday at the 10 a.m. and 1pm Masses. I want to thank their parents for working with them through their Mass workbooks at home. We also deeply appreciate the help of the teach-ers both at PSR and here at school. I know that a lot of time and energy go into helping them to prepare for not only their first time but to help them to be full, conscious and active participants at Mass. Watching them serves as a reminder that we all should come up to communion with hands folded reverently, that we should speak an audible “amen” and bow our heads in adoration before receiving both the host and the precious blood. It is also important to participate fully by singing and speaking the prayers and by being a welcom-ing presence to those around you. I appreciate your continued patience with the parking project. They are supposed to pour concrete this week and after a week, it should be usable. The next phase of this project will be to redo the area directly in front of the school once classes are done on June. The last section nearest the rectory and Church will involve the replace-ment of all the storm and sanitary sewers. That will be the most challenging portion of the project, maintaining access to the rectory and Church for Mass, funerals and weddings. Happy Mothers Day to all have brought forth new life! Please be extra kind to your moms and grandmas, not

only today but each day you can show them how much they mean to you! Have a great week. Fr Tony
