As we put our summer gear away, the 6855 calendar gets crowded with so many seasonal celebrations on top of the programs we undertake and need to raise funds for. On the wayside are equally meritorious KofC programs like Keep Christ in Christmas, pro‐life essay and poster contest, Special Olympics, … which we never seem able to squeeze into our calendar. Surely a council 300‐member strong with a 3,000‐family parish behind it can effectively pursue these and much more? Did we not win the Most Active Council award in BC? We have consistently recruited sufϐicient numbers of new Knights annually—was there ever a year in recent histo‐ ry when we did not win Star Council? Oh yes, there was: the year that we won Double‐Star Council! While it is rewarding to have our generosity and volunteer efforts recog‐ nized in such fashion, while it is good to challenge ourselves to aim for the stars and thereby to grow, while it is a source of pride to belong to a much awarded Council — we need to remind ourselves that in the faith life, the process is the goal . Do we build our council by doubling up on the recruitment effort to make up for those members we lose because they no longer see the beneϐits of membership? Do we succeed in our many activities on the backs of a few super‐active members, so much so that many fear to step up to positions of responsibility? I would like to hear a resounding No! Let us work on retention and activation. Let us collegially share the workload. Let no one and nothing fall on the way‐ side—newsletter, service programs, charity toward others and each other. Installation of Officers Councils 10681 and 6232
Christopher Columbus Council 10681 held their installation of Executive Officers and Awards Night last September 6 at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Council Chaplain Rev. OurSARAHBloodPressureCheckresumedthisSeptemberatthePancakeBreakfast.Thisprogramtapsthemedicalexper‐tiseamongourranksandputsittotheserviceofourparish‐ioners,especiallytheseniorswhoenjoytherelaxedatmos‐phereandvaluetheopportunitytochatabouttheirhealthcon‐cerns.
OriginallyconstitutedasajointprojectbetweentheKnightsofColumbusandtheAddictionsPreventionteamheadedbyDr.LarinaReyes‐Smith,itsmandatewasbroadenedtoembracegeneralhealthissues.WiththedepartureofLarina,however,thepresentprogramhasshrunktothemonthlyBloodPressureCheck.Stillitremainsaservicethatourseniorsseekoutbe‐foreorafterpolishingoffapancakeortwo—hopefullybefore,asthisprovidesamorerepresentativereading.
Ourdreamisto illthevacuumleftbyLarinawithothermedi‐calexpertsinourParishwhocanaddressfromaCatholicper‐spectivethemanyconfusingandcontroversialissuesofourday,likeassistedsuicideandend‐of‐lifedirectives,HPVvac‐cination,invitrofertilization,…thelistisendless.

Bro. Ernesto Danoog had a very good excuse for being missing in action at St. Paul’s: he and wife Consuelo flew 10,000km to the Philippines to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on the 10th of September. Happy Anniversary, Brother!
Columbus Charities Association held its Annual General Meeting last Septem-ber 23 at Immaculate Conception Parish Hall in Delta. CCA is the organization behind the Knights of Columbus seniors housing in Vancouver, Chilliwack and Delta, an important facet of our charitable works. As Council Directors for CCA, Bro. Our mother-daughter number proudly draws on the talents and enthusiasm of the daughters/granddaughters of many Brother Knights, including Micah Mesa (Eugenio’s granddaughter), Kathleen Marcelino (Ron’s daughter and Manuel Canita’s granddaughter), Morgan ter Stege (Bernard’s daughter), Brielle Garcia (Gilbert’s daughter and Pol’s granddaughter), Katherine Welbanks (Doug’s daughter), and Anne-Marie Macken (Patrick’s daughter). Asthebigdaydrawsnear,rehearsalshaveintensi iedtotwiceaweek.Wearethankfulfortheperseveranceandperfectionismofourperformersanddirectorsastheystrivetodeliverashowthatiswortheverydollaroftheticketpriceandmore.Trulytheonlyreasonnottobuyaticketisbecausetherearenomoreticketstobuy…Besuretogetyoursbeforethey’regone!
Kathy and Karen Mahoney generously provided the refreshments for over 45 performers at the September 21 rehearsal at St. Paul’s Gym. The kids were hooked on the healthy rice crackers with veggie topping that they prepared along with skewered fruits, sandwich assortment, dessert bars… Can’t thank you enough, Karen & Kathy!
The girls (Anne-Marie Macken, Morgan ter Stege, and Kianne Facun) reassure Kara (Tricia Jose) that no problem is too big to handle when there’s someone right next to you to share the load.
Rehearsals always begin and end with prayer, lifting up our efforts as a means of giving glory to God.

‘Tis a rare moment to see our Sis. Gladys Chamberland actually seated down. If she’s not climbing ladders hanging up decorations, she would be bustling about in the kitchen.
At right we see a sample of Gladys’ creative handiwork, recycling someone’s old Calypso costume to create a paper doll. Guess whom of the four people pictured on the right did it belong to? Clue: not the ladies...
It was nice of our former Assistant Pastor Edwin Kulling to come up all the way from Langley where he is now the Pastor of St. Nicholas Church.
Our Caribbean-Canadian parishioners encouraged us to sample genuine calypso cuisine, courtesy of Calypso Foods, Inc. We did request them to put the spicy stuff on the side, though...
