8:30 a.m.—2:30 p.m. LifeSource is always looking to reach out to new blood donors. As our population ages, the need for blood and blood products increases. Without new donors, shortages are inevitable. We need you because there is no substitute for human blood, and the need for blood is at a steady incline. Did you know that 37% of the population is eligible to donate blood, yet less than 5 % of those eligible donors in the Chicagoland area regularly give the gift of life. Every time you donate blood, you can save up to 3 lives because whole blood is separated into three components: *Red cells, which can be stored for up to 42 days, are typically administered to replenish blood loss during surgery or trauma.

*Platelets, which ca be stored for up to five days, help stop bleeding and are usually used for cancer patients.

*Plasma, which can be frozen for up to one year, is mainly used to treat patients with bleeding and other conditions.

Donor eligibility guidelines: *Donor must be 17 years old. Must bring a picture ID.

*Minimum weight of 110 pounds.

*Must be symptom-free of colds and flu and feel well at time of donation.

*Ear piercing and tattoos: Acceptable if it was performed at a business establishment regulated by state.

*Diabetics are eligible to donate if they are controlled by diet or oral medication; if you are controlled by insulin injection, please contact the Medical Help desk at 847-260-2647.

*Women who recently gave birth must wait six weeks after delivery to donate.

*If you have traveled to a foreign country, please contact the Medical Help Desk to find out in you are eligible to donate.

*Donors on antibiotics are eligible once infection clears and one day after las dose of antibiotic. *Aspirin and pain medication are acceptable.

Do You Have To Be Religious To Be Pro-life? From a scientific perspective, what fundamentally constitutes an organism as a certain type of “being” is its genetic structure. Trees have tree DNA. Dogs have canine DNA. And humans have human DNA. Humans receive their basic genetic structure at the moment of conception. Written into the single fertilized cell possessing 46 chromosomes is all the information that the human zygote will need to grow towards full development. No other extraneous genetic material will ever be needed. Science tells us, therefore, that from the moment of conception we have a genetically living human being (and the "development" continues throughout life until death). This means that human life is to be respected and protected; it is not to be taken capriciously, especially from the innocent. You certainly don't have to be religious to understand the critical importance and dignity of human life. Even most atheists can agree to this basic idea. But let’s say that my Christian belief is the sole grounding for my opposition to abortion. Would this be so bad? Would I be “imposing” my beliefs on others to say that abortion is immoral? Think throughout the history of America ---- many if not most of those who opposed slavery and championed human rights were Christian believers who allowed their faith to guide their opposition to evil. Think of Harriet Beecher Stowe, William Lloyd Garrison, and the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. Should their opposition to moral evil have been dismissed because of their religious beliefs? Of course not.

Pero, digamos que mi creencia Cristiana es la única base para mi oposición al aborto. ¿Es esto tan malo? ¿Estaría “imponiendo” mis creencias en otros, al decir que el aborto es inmoral? Piensa que a través de la historia de Estados Unidos, muchos, sino la mayoría de aquellos que se oponían a la esclavitud y defendían los derechos humanos , eran creyentes Cristianos que permitieron que su fé, guíe su oposición a la maldad.
