SACROSANCTUM CONCILIUM

Chapter IV THE DIVINE OFFICE

Hymns of the office are to be restored to their original form. As occasions may arise, let other selections from the treasury of hymns be incorporated. Communities obliged to choral office are bound to celebrate the office in choir every day in addition to the conventual Mass. Orders of canons, bound by law or constitutions to choral office, must celebrate the entire office. Cathedral or collegiate chapters are bound to recite those parts of the office imposed on them by general or particular law. All members of the above communities, solemnly professed, are bound to recite individually those canonical hours not prayed in choir. Clerics, not bound to office in choir, in major orders, are bound to pray the entire office every day. Appropriate liturgical services may be substituted for the divine office. For a just reason, ordinaries can dispense their subjects from the obligations of reciting the divine office or may commute the obligation. Members of any institute, dedicated to acquiring perfection, perform the public prayer of the Church. They too perform the public prayer of the Church who, in virtue of their constitutions, recite any short office, provided it is approved. Since the divine office is the voice of the whole Mystical Body publicly praising God, clerics assembled for any purpose, are urged to pray at least some part of the office in common. All who pray the divine office should fulfill the task entrusted to them as perfectly as possible. It is fitting that the office be sung when possible. Pastors of souls should see to it that the chief hours, especially Vespers, are celebrated in common in church on Sundays and on solemn feasts. The laity are encouraged to recite the divine office, even individually. In accordance with the centuries-old tradition, the Latin language is to be retained by clerics in reciting the divine office. In individual cases, the ordinary has the power of granting the use of the vernacular for whom the use of Latin would constitute a grave obstacle to their praying the office properly. Competent superiors have the power to grant the use of the vernacular in celebrations. The version used, however, must be approved.

Chapter V THE LITURGICAL YEAR

Holy Mother Church is conscious that she must devoutly celebrate the saving work of her spouse by recalling it throughout the course of the year. Every week, on the Lord’s day, she keeps the memory of the Lord’s resurrection and, once in the year, together with his blessed passion in the most solemn festival of Easter.

CCE NEWS Registration for 2020-2021 CCE and Sacramental preparation is going on now, and classes will begin on October 14. Both paper and online registration options are available. Due to local restrictions regarding COVID-19, the following changes to the program have been made:

Only Sacramental classes will be on campus on Wednesday and Thursday nights. This includes:

2nd Grade First Holy Communion 4th-9th Grade First Holy Communion, yr 2 RCIA for Children, years 1 and 2

All other classes will be offered exclusively online:
