From the Pastor’s Desk

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Christians all over the world celebrate the birthday of Jesus. He becomes “Emmanuel” for all people. Emmanuel means God with us. Christmas is not just an external celebration. It is an acceptance of Jesus as our personal savior and Lord. We are in-vited to follow him who is the light of all nations by being his light to all people today. Therefore, “rise up in splendor! Your light has come, the glory of God shines upon you. See, the darkness covers the earth, the thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lord shines, and over you appear His glory.” Is. 60: 1-2. I am blessed to see many St. Andrew parish families are truly living their faith. Life is full of challenges. But I can see you living your beautiful Catholic faith in its fullness. As 2016 comes to an end, it’s quite natural that we look back and see how this year was. For some perhaps it was not a won-derful year. Some other people it was an amazing year. I encour-age you not to look on the ups or downs, but focus on the one who gives you the grace and power to move on. God is always faithful to us. And we respond to God’s unfailing love until Christ is formed in us. Let us welcome the New Year 2017 with courage and enthusiasm. May the good Lord bless you all and strengthen you to face all the challenges in life... Fr. Joe, Pastor

Gifts Returned to God “For everything is from You, and we only give You what

we have received from You.” -1 Chronicles 29:14

Next weekend's 2nd Collection, January 8, is for St. Andrew Charity.

FIRST BLOOD

"When the eighth day arrived for His circumcision, the name Jesus was given the child." —Luke 2:21

On the eighth day of Christmas, we celebrate the feast of Mary, the Mother of God. On the eighth day of His life, Jesus shed His blood for the first time as He endured circumcision. Mary, His mother, would have been the one who nursed Jesus' wound, repeatedly washing off His blood during the next few days as the infant Jesus healed. This foreshadows Mary standing at the foot of Jesus' cross decades later as He would shed His blood for our salvation. Many of you have seen the statue of the Pieta in which Mother Mary holds the dead, bloody body of her Son Jesus. Even after He died, Mary treasured Jesus' body by cleaning off His blood. During her entire life, Mary was devoted to the Precious Blood of Jesus. This was dramatically portrayed in the movie The Passion of the Christ and in the book by Anne Catherine Emmerich, The Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Imitate Mother Mary. Devote yourself to the Precious Blood of Jesus in 2017. Receive the eucharistic Jesus in Mass as often as possible, even daily. Commit yourself to frequent Eucharistic adoration. "O, the blood of Jesus. It must not suffer loss."
