Dear Parishioners: On this last Sunday of October, we once again remind ourselves about the importance of our commitment as Catholics to "Respect for Life". And

since October is the month of the Holy Rosary, I hope that in these next few days you might find extra time to pray the Rosary -- perhaps together as a family -- maybe right after Sunday dinner? Maybe right before Halloween festivities? It would be a beautiful way to end the month of October spiritually. Next Saturday is the Feast of All Saints, though it is NOT a Holy Day of Obligation this year. Next weekend's Masses will be for the Dead in the annual commemoration of the Dead, or All Souls Day. Please remember that we will be offering Masses throughout the month of November for all our beloved dead. Thanks to all who made our Fall Festival and our Golf Tournament so successful! They were such fun occasions. Blessings to you all! Happy Halloween! Devotedly yours, Fr. Gabe

AT ALL MASSES NEXT WEEK.

First Reading — The souls of the just are in the hands of God, and no torment shall touch them (Wisdom 3:1-9). Psalm — The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want (Psalm 23). Second Reading Hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts (Romans 5:5-11). Gospel — This is the will of the Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes may have eternal life (John 6:37-40).

Reflections on Today’s Readings

FOCUS: We should live our lives based on our love of God, our neighbors and our self. The definition of love has carried many different meanings throughout history. We do not need a degree in Psychology to be able to know authentic love. We can look to those we know to find the meaning of true love. The greatest example is Jesus. Sure models of true love are Mary and the saints.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: In our first reading, Moses lays before the Israelites the laws that pertain to their relationship with those who are less fortunate. Saint Paul acknowledges the work of the missionaries and the Christian community in spreading God’s word. In today’s Gospel, Jesus answers the Pharisees’ question: Which commandment in the law is the greatest?

Masses: Sat: 5:30 p.m. Sun: 7:30 a.m. Sun: 9:00 a.m. Sun: 10:30 a.m. Sun: 12:00 NN. Sun: 7:30 p.m.

Living Faith For Kids Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest? He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall

love your neighbor as yourself.” ~ Matthew 22:36-39

God gave us the Ten Commandments so that we would know how to live a good life. Jesus told us that the greatest commandments are to love God and to love your neighbor. It sounds so simple, but it can be hard to follow these simple commandments. Start by talking to God every day in prayer. With God at the center of your life, you will find ways to show your love to God and neighbor. FREE Senior & Professional Affordable

Talk with your children about safety at school: “Back-to-school does not have to mean back-to-worrying. Though

safety inside school is ultimately the responsibility of the principal and school staff, parents can take a few basic steps to ensure a safe school experience.” Talk with your child about safety. Be specific. Talk about instinct and paying attention to funny feelings of fear. Explain what to do if she doesn't feel safe (find a teacher, call 911, etc.). Make sure she knows how to contact you or a trusted neighbor who is likely to be at home. Fact of Life Confined to a Wheelchair, Then This Happened

Bryan Hinkle has an autoimmune disease (CIDP) that attacks the peripheral nerves. Controlled for years with medication, the disease nevertheless came back with a vengeance, leaving him depressed, afraid and wheelchair-bound.

“My biggest fear was that I was going to die," he said. “I was just living my days waiting for the end to come.”

But hope made a comeback, due to a doctor who had developed a ground-breaking therapy for CIDP using adult stem cells. Within two days he noticed a difference, and his recovery continued from there. He leads a happy, healthy life! “I’ve regained my independence. I’m helping take care of my chil-dren. I’m being the husband and father that I only dreamt about not too long ago.”

You can see the video of his amazing comeback on You Tube: “Adult Stem Cell Success - CIDP: Bryan Hinkle”

The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be hosting a Día de los Muertos Vigil on November 1, 2014 at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles. This free event offers a unique opportunity for our parish families to celebrate a Catholic tradition that unites faith, prayer and cultural heritage to commemorate All Souls Day. The family-friendly festivities will begin at 3 p.m. at the Main Mausoleum, which will be decorated with altars honoring the faithful departed, including a special altar in honor of veterans by the Knights of Columbus. There will also be children’s activities, an art exhibit and folkloric dance typical to Día de los Muertos celebrations. Mass will be celebrated at 5 p.m. in the Main Chapel followed by a candlelight procession around the Mausoleum, which will end with the blessing of the altars. The festivities will conclude with a Mariachi concert and social gathering with food and refreshments provided free by Vallarta Markets, Chago Tortas Ahogadas and El Gallo Giro.
