sedative or tranquilizer, one usually feels sleepy and uncoordinated.

• but as body becomes accustomed to effects, these feelings begin to disappear.

• Higher doses cause impairment of memory, judgment and coordination, irritability, paranoid and suicidal thoughts

• Cheryl had a stressful job. One day she had an anxiety attack.

• Her doctor told her to take some Tranquilizers. • She eventually started using more and more.

She thought they could become addictive. Her doctor said they couldn’t.

• She persuaded him to take her off the drug anyway.

• Her anxiety attacks returned and got worse. – She went tranquilizer-free for 1 year.

• She had a really big anxiety attack. – A chemical imbalance was the cause of the anxiety

attacks. • The doctor put her back on the Tranquilizers.

She was fine for a while until she started feeling depressed.

• An anti-depressant was prescribed but she didn’t want to become dependent on them so she tried “withdrawing” again.

• This time she was successful.
