Area Reps eligible

Council Reps need designated alternatesIf Council Reps need to miss a Council

meeting, they can send designated alternates on their behalf. This ensures

a district has representation when the Council votes on motions to set policy. At the meetings, Council Reps also hear/share updates regarding the union. According to the SPEEA Constitution, Section 5.1.1.3:The Alternate Council Representative may act as Council Representative from that Council district and shall hold full power of office during that meeting or until the regular Council Representative is in attendance at that meeting.

Per SPEEA’s bylaws (5.1.1.3), only the district’s Area Reps can serve as designated alternates. A lthough severa l Counci l Reps have designated alternates to attend Council meetings on their behalf, more than half of the Council Reps do not have designated alternates. See the form online at www.speea.org (drop-down menu: Councils/Forms, Petitions Delineations) to designate an alternate.Questions? Email [email protected].

Reminder for interns

Educational Leave (ELOA) an option because of SPEEAInterns represented by SPEEA at The

Boeing Company can apply for an Educational Leave of Absence (ELOA)

before returning to school. In 2019, Boeing discontinued the ELOA for interns. SPEEA worked with Boeing to correct the company’s error and restore the ELOA option for interns along with benefits provided by the union’s collective bargaining agreements.

ELOA benefits• An additional three months of medical

and dental coverage, life insurance, Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D), short-term disability and basic long-term disability. Additionally, the medical and dental benefits remain available to dependents.

• Individuals and their eligible dependents can use Boeing’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) services for the duration of their ELOA.

If returning to Boeing, interns: • Retain original hire date.• Resume medical and dental coverage

with no waiting period.• May be eligible to change the type of

employment leave and receive additional leave benefits. While uncommon, it is possible for interns to be Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)-eligible and should an intern become disabled while on an approved non-medical LOA, the intern is eligible for a new medical LOA and thus receive an additional three months of medical, dental and other items as called out in the SPEEA Technical contract.

SPEEA sent an email to interns Aug. 26 to remind them of the ELOA benefit and steps to apply, per Boeing Labor Relations. For questions, email [email protected].

UPCOMING MEETING SCHEDULES

SPEEA NewClips arrive dailyOne of the many duties of Council

Representatives (CRs) is to forward the daily SPEEA NewsClips to

Area Reps (ARs) and members on their distribution lists. NewsClips offer a daily dose of labor, aero-space and important news of interest to SPEEA members. The daily email is prepared each work morning by SPEEA Communications and emailed to CRs. Though a combination of key words chosen through a news-clipping service and handpicked news articles, the daily NewsClips are assembled. The SPEEA news clip service searches

articles from more than 2,000 news outlets around the United States with select additional outlets from around the world. News from labor, aerospace and other topics are chosen based on general interest and news value. The clips do not necessarily reflect the views of SPEEA or its members. Members who are not receiving NewsClips are asked to contact their Council Rep to make sure they are on their distribution list. Members who would like to opt-out of NewsClips should also contract their Council Rep. The “Find Your Council Rep” tool is located on the SPEEA website under Member Tools.
