The Hills of South Grafton are alive, with the sound of…. lots of
activity once again.
CHS State Athletics
What a valiant effort our team from SGHS put in this year! The
Waern boys, Angus and Jonas, Oliver Knight cheered on by
brother Jack, Damien Duroux, Jacob Hearfield, Nathalie Avery,
Megan and Erica Tillman, Natasha Rudder, Ryan Wheeler and
Noah Armstrong who was unwell
on the day
proudly
represented
their school
at Homebush
last week.
In the Open
Girls, Erica
was 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the long
jump events. Natasha gained 2nd in the
100m and 3rd in the 200m. Nathalie and
Ryan went through to the finals. Well done to all of you and
thanks to the parents who took their children down there.
Healthy Breakfast
A healthy breakfast is the guaranteed and well proven way to
start the day. Children who follow a good night’s sleep with a
nutritrious breakfast are more attentive and therefore learn
better. It is disappointing to see some of our students walking
into the school grounds with bags of hot chips and cans of Coke
or energy drinks first thing in the morning. Energy drinks are
officially banned in NSW state schools, yet students are still
bringing these into the grounds.
Parents are asked to give their children the best start to the day
by making sure or encouraging them to eat something
nourishing BEFORE they leave home. Also, students should have
something to keep them going throughout the day for lunch.
Otherwise, support the school’s canteen and the P&C by buying
something fresh and healthy from there.
Sadly, we have been unable to run our very successful Healthy
Breakfast program this term, due to the flooring in the hall near
the kitchen waiting for repair. This has been an ongoing issue, so
an alternative venue is being sought. From Term 4, those in
need can go to the common room where they can access bread
for toast, spreads, fruit, juice and Milo. TVET
Any Year 10 student wishing to apply for a TVET course for
2018, must have their completed expressions of interest form
returned to C6 by Monday 18 September.

students who participated.
Daily Examiner Netball Finals
On Wednesday South Grafton High School Yr
7-8 girls were locked in a battle for netball
supremacy in the Daily Examiner Netball
Shield final against Maclean High School. The
South High girls jumped out of the gates fast
and with a huge defensive effort by Kaitlyn
Smith and Charlotte Cooper went to the
quarter break with a lead of 2 goals. Maclean
fought back in the second quarter with some
slick passing and took a 2 goal lead by half
time. A couple of quick goals and a long range
bomb from Holly Blundell kept the girls right in
it and with great court coverage by Tahlia
O’Hara, Jesse Creighton and Hannah
McNaught the South team trailed by two goals
at the end of the third quarter. Maclean
extended the gap but some sharp shooting by
Madison Nicholl kept the gap to two goals.
Player of the tournament, Emily Crispe put in
another energetic display but unfortunately
the South High team went lost the match in an
awesome game of Netball with the final score
being Maclean 27 defeating South High 24.
Congratulations to all girls for a fantastic
display of sportsmanship and skill.

The Tell Them From Me student
feedback survey I am delighted that this term, our school,
like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student
feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect
academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement
and effective teaching practices. You may remember that our students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student
survey in Term 1 this year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student
responses as well as track engagement and motivation across the school year. More information about the survey is
available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about
school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and
around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes
to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 21 August and 13 October. Participating in the survey is
entirely voluntary.
The Partners in Learning parent feedback survey This Term, our school will be participating in
the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent
surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to
impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Running this survey will help our school
understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication
between parents/carers and staff, activities
and practices at home and parent/carer
views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will
help our school make practical improvements. The survey is conducted entirely online at
home or on public computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The
parent survey will be conducted between 21 August and 13 October. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, however, your
responses are very much appreciated. More information about the survey is available at:
http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents Parents who wish to complete the survey
can do so by following the link below. https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/sghs
