On March 10th, Appaloosa horses helped raise money for the Therapeutic Riding Center at Coffee Creek by posing in their finery with the members of the Oklahoma International Rainbow for Girls.

The event took place in Lawton , OK and was hosted by the Rainbow Girls from Lawton , Duncan , and Ada . Girls from all over the state arrived in their formals and finery and paid one dollar to pose with Bridget (Mama’s Design) and Sister (Blazin Hot Sister). All funds raised were presented to Miss Keeci Gammon, the Grand Worthy Advisor for Oklahoma Rainbow for her state service project, the Riding Center at Coffee Creek that helps physically and mentallyhandicapped children by teaching them to ride. Keeci is a former Rodeo Queen from Seiling , OK and also loves horses.

As Mother Advisor for the Duncan Rainbow Girls, Valerie saw a great opportunity to combine our horses and this service-oriented Masonic

organization for young ladies ages 11-20. “Our apps were great ambassadors for this special project. Many of the Rainbow girls had never been near a horse, but they really enjoyed petting them and couldn’t believe that we could actually put them in costume.”

The horses (Shown here in the picture with Erica Halterman), who stood in theparking lot in their tiaras, diamond necklaces and feather boas were Mama’s Design (Bridget on the left) – owned and shown by Erica Halterman and Blazin Hot Sister (Sister on the right) – owned and shown by Martin Halterman of Duncan, OK.

Erica Halterman is an officer of Duncan Assembly No. 105 and a member of the State of Oklahoma ’s Memorial Team. And Martin, Valerie and Erica are all members of the National ApHC and boththe Oklahoma and Sooner Appaloosa

The Sooner Club has lost one of it's former president's. Dave Barber succumbed to pneumonia. Dave had a heart problem and I think was on the transplant list, he also had some form of cancer. With all these problems Davecontracted pneumonia and decided he didn't want to stay in the hospital and wanted to go home. That is where he went and where in peace he met his Maker. Dave was the individual who

stepped up to the plate back in the latenineties and saved the Sooner Club. Mismanagement had almost ruined the club when he and Cathy his wife took over the Club. Dave, Cathy and Dawn (their daughter) were tough competitors in Western Pleasure. The had shown in a number of Clubs. Dave again helped the Club later when he helped us regain our original tax number. While Dave was not strong enough to show we did see him at Purcell and had a nice visit.

Sooner ApHC Co-Sponsors Appaloosa Congress

By Carla Peacock

The All American Appaloosa Congress is scheduled to be held June 15-21, 2008. It already has 16 regional clubs pointing it and two of those clubs, Sooner and Gulf Coast are co-sponsoring it! Look for our 24 page ad that will appear in the Appaloosa Journal at this year's Nationals/Youth Worlds. It is looking like the Congress will be a HUGE success. We would liketo give a special thanks to Dawna Harwell and the Texas Appaloosa Clubfor their assistance. Also a big thank you to Lonnie Ledbetter for his financial aid and moral support.

Check out our website, www.AllAmericanAppaloosaCongress.com which is maintained by Sooner's own Jennifer Marcom. It has our

tentative class schedule and is updated frequently to keep visitors informed of our ever growing list of pointing clubs, sponsors and special activities. Please let us know if you or one of your family members are veterans of our military. We are planning an evening of recognition during the Congress in addition to having a page on our website dedicated to those veterans.

We have a LOT of work still left to do and we are still about one year out! Everyone can help! We arecurrently getting sponsors and collecting donations. We will have a special section on our website with a detailed breakdown of the

Dedra is getting our foal page updated so you all can share in this joy. It seems this year has had more sad foaling moments than I recall from other years. My sympathies to Carolyn Johns, Pat Gent, and other members who had those bright moments cut short.

If you haven’t renewed your Sooner membership, please fill out the membership form on the last page and send to the address at the bottom of the page. If you’ve not been active, consider making this year to join new and returning members in moving the Sooner Club forward. Not only do we have our plans for this year, but we have some major efforts in work for 2008, including the Appaloosa Congress show.

Nationals will be in Oklahoma City this year. This will be the last time we have the show in our “backyard” for a while.. Take the opportunity to see many of our spotted wonders together and performing beautifully.

This Club is only as good as each of us and is only as strong as the individual members. Please contact me, Dedra, Nadia or one of the board members with any ideas or suggestions for the Club. Let’s make this a great year for Sooner!

Annual Meeting Report – Feb. 25, 200

Date: Feb 25, 2007 Time: 2:30 p.m. Location: Ryan's Steak House, 74th and Memorial, Tulsa Attendees: Dedra Tiger, Nadia Loden, Duane and Deborah Sullivan, Charlie Bottger, Holly and Brenna Branwer, Debbie Letham, Kayte Beckleheimer, Carol and Paul Johnson, Gerry Lukacik, Jamie Boller, Katelynn Sokolowski Board and Officer elections. We had only one candidate for each open position. Debbie Letham made a motion that the candidates all be elected by acclimation. Motion was seconded by Paul Johnson. Motion carried. 2007 officers: Carol Johnson - President, Dedra Tiger - Vice President, Nadia Loden - Secretary, Pat Gent - Treasurer 2007 2-year board members: Gerry Lukacik, Jennifer Marcom 2007 1-year board members: Paul Johnson, Jaime Boller Note that Billy Walker and Rodger Scott are completing the 2nd year of their 2-year board member positions.

2007 Activities: - June 2007 show. After discussion, it was decided to go forward with the same slate of classes as we had in2006. - October 2007 show. Changing the date to follow the OKC Fair show was discussed. Dedra reported that the facility is not available at that time. Decision was made to continue with the current show date, with the same slate of classes as last year with the exception of removing the jumping classes from the October show. - No clinics are planned at this time due to light attendance at the 2006 clinics. - Performance and/or jackpot futurity plans are not in place for 2007. As Deborah and Duane become more familiar with the club, they may want to be involved in this effort. Carol emphasized that we as a club want to keep the rules and administration of such a futurity simple and straight forward. 2008 Activities - Carol and Holly had been discussing the Sooner Club moving our June show to a new level. Holly Brawner presented information on a large show, tentatively called the Appaloosa Congress, to be co-sponsored by the Sooner ApHC and the Gulf Coast ApHC of Texas. Show will be held in Ardmore, starting the second weekend of June and

going through the third Saturday. Holly Brawner and Carla Peacock are doing much of the initial leg work on getting this show organized. Carol and Dedra will be on the show committee, if the Sooner Club decides to participate. Debbie (?) made motion that the Sooner Club co-sponsor this show. Motion seconded by Charlie Bottger. Motion carried. Year-end awards - Motion was made and seconded to present the 2006 year end awards at the June 2007 show. Motion passed. (sorry - don't remember who made or seconded the motion). - Carol nominated Vi Bottger to receive the 2006 Adam Chronister reward. Vi has actively supported the club over several years. In October 2005 and June 2006, Vi stepped in when our concession

7

7

situation went south and provided a superior concession for those shows on short notice. Dedra Tiger seconded the nomination. Vi was elected to this award unanimously. This is the first year that we've had a horse qualify for the Horse of the Year award since we established it several years ago. Not only did we have a horse qualify, we had two in a dead heat. Blazin Hot Sister, shown by Martin Halterman, lost to his daughter's horse, Mama's Design. Martin had a good enough time showing Sister in non-pro HIH that he also took in Mama's Design. That gave Mama's Design the edge. An exciting year and lots of fun watching this father-daughter combo show. Maybe Erica will share her award with Martin. Meeting notes compiled by Carol Johnson

o Gate and make-up arena are areas where additional help would be useful o Runners o Paul and Gerry - Ring stewards - slight possibility Paul might have to work October show * will need same type of help at the October show Other activities * Possible trail ride o Several members mentioned the possibility of having a trail ride as we've done in some previous years o Carol reported that Blue Creek Cove is now subject to youth hunting the weekend following the October show when we've ridden before o Deborah mentioned a location - state park? - around Sand Springs where hunting was not allowed. She will check on this and let the club know the location (Post meeting note: Deborah identified the location as Walnut Creek State Park).

* Oct 6 - there will be trail rides throughout the state in support of breast cancer research. Carol had sent some info on these to club members. Therehas been some interest. Some members had also suggested doing a benefit show. Will investigate whether we can use the October show for this. Horse of the Year award * Discussed the horse of the year award. Members liked the idea of the director's chair presented by

Page 6

Dedra Tiger. 2008 Activities * June show - club will be co-sponsoring the Appaloosa Congress which will be held in Ardmore * Carol asked whether there would be interest in putting on a Ranch Horse show. o Gerry Lukacik is familiar with the proposal, which is not progressing through the ApHC. o Carol suggested putting on the show, open to all breeds, to help bring in a broader group of Appaloosa enthusiasts. Carol didn't feel the show should be included as part of a regular show as this might discourage the very people we'd be trying to attract. o Several members, including Jim, Duane, and Pete thought the idea worth investigating. Jim suggested that Connie Arnett would probably be willing to help us with the cattle aspect of the show. o Debbie Sullivan and Gerry Lukacik will investigate this option further. * October show o Dedra will check with NEOSHA on the possibility of switching weekends, so that we could have our show in September on the weekend following the OKC Fair show. o Current show date has been hit or miss. Last year's show did point, but it was very close. If we don't do betterthis year, the current date may not be viable. + Competing against the Nebraska show, which is 4-judge and a breast cancer benefit
