The village of Smolenskoye was named after the icon of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God "Hodegetria”.

The village of Smolenskoye is situated near the Altay Mountains. It is 35 km from the town of Biysk.

The village dates back to the middle of the 18th century when the Cossacks founded the first fortress.

Verkh-Obskoye is a village situated near the junction of the Biya and the Katun.

The two Altay rivers form the Ob, one of the greatest Siberian rivers.

Verkh-Obskoye is the Motherland of Mikhail Yevdokimov. He was a famous actor, comedian and politician.
