As we move ever closer towards Europe’s 2020 plan for 80% market penetration of Smart
Meters, roll-outs across the continent are taking shape and provide valuable insight into the road
ahead. As a new development for this 7th annual event, previously divided Smart Metering UK
and Smart Metering Europe conferences will join forces to examine the key developments and
challenges facing the region’s smart metering deployments. The conference will examine recent
UK and EU-wide directives driving the smart metering market, topics such as: cost-benefit
analysis, financing large scale smart metering projects, and case study experiences from both
leading and independent utilities.
It has been estimated that by 2019, energy bills will be spared approximately £10 billion a year by
smart cities. With policy adaptations being implemented across Europe so as to facilitate smart
city progression, this conference will explore the role of, and implication for, utilities in the mix.
The conference will feature insights into the evolution of the Internet of Things & the connected
home, data and ROI concerns, as well as highlighting the opportunities and benefits through
case study presentations on some of the world’s smartest cities.
The Smart Grids conference will consider not only ongoing smart grid project developments
across Europe but also the increasingly vital integration of renewables, the need for flexibility
and effective response to unpredictability, and the potential for future regulation and policy
to assist smart grid optimisation. Speakers will include smart grid project leaders, technology
companies, TSOs, regulators and utilities.
As big data and data analysis begin to take increasingly prominent positions within the energy
ecosystem, new players join the market and create increased competition, as well as shaking
up traditional business models. New solutions for efficiency, reliability, consumer engagement
and security, pave the way for new regulatory frameworks and policies. With the integration
of renewable energy sources into the grid and energy storage consequently a key focus in the
smart energy matrix, the energy storage conference plays a vital role in raising issues of storage
applications and capacity, flexibility, the predicted surge in domestic solar storage, and much
more.
Smart water metering has taken huge strides in recent months, with new UK roll-outs in the
pipeline and innovation across Europe pushing the industry towards new levels of market
potential, the Smart Water conference will play host in exploring the expectations, challenges,
key developments and regulation shaping the progression of European smart water metering.
This stream will also highlight the progress of smart gas metering within Europe and provide
insight in Smart Water and Smart Gas projects through case studies with industry leaders.
