Subj: SMP Monthly Meeting Minutes
1. A SMP meeting was held 02 May 2019 at 13 Area Pool. Cpl Bruzek called the meeting to order at
0906. List of those in attendance is provided on the sign in sheet (attachment 1).
2. Mr. Eddie Hadley- SMP Coordinator – Last month’s minutes can be found at www.mccscp.com under
the recreation / SMP tab.
3. SgtMaj Meza – SgtMaj MCIWest-MCB CamPen – Not In Attendance
4. Mr. Michael Rumbaua, Bachelor Housing Manager –
Bachelor Housing - takes care of BAH requests, aid in inspections, and handles "no cost billeting"
which refers to placing small units in BEQ. Also handles overseas troops to be housed in the
barracks, to include the currently housed Japanese troops for the yearly training exercise.
Michael Rumbaua, deals with care and reporting as well as working with BEQ managers directly
and training of each. They also have an inspection team for QA purposes. They have
administrative tasks to include BAH chit reviews and more.
Washers and dryers were brought up again. There are flyers explaining the process of servicing
the units. These repairs are done within 48 hours.
Mold was brought up as an ongoing issue- if there are mold issues, FMD will not take care of
them.
Occupancy for the base still sits at 66% overall, which is contrary to perception, so reporting is a
key to be able to get changes made.
5. Mrs. Theresa Flores, Youth Sports & Athletics -
CG cup – review GC Cup events for the year.
Oscar Mike Challenge completed yesterday at Engineer’s Hill. This was an individual event;
Boots and Utes required.

May 08 – Grappling Tournament – Paige Field House. This event is individual and it is
categorized by weight class all the way up to 206 lbs.
May 15 – Swim Meet – 13 Area Pool. This event consist of short distance swims (25 and 50
Meters), so everyone should be able to participate. For more info on all swims included, see
agenda. Registration for this is open until May 13th.
There are currently 28 CG Cup Events left for the remainder of year.
There are two league teams left; softball and volleyball.
6. Mr. Jason Torpey, 13 Are Pool –
Lap swim and PT swim takes place at this pool and is open Monday through Friday
Cammie and general PT gear swims are available as well as private swim lessons at a very
reasonable cost
Swim lessons offered for kids as well. Information is available by flyers and/or at the front desk
Next year, 13 Area pool will start the first official 100 mile swim club with T-shirts as an award
and no cost to sign-up
Ocean general information, surf camp and surf lessons available for sign up online
Unit PT and SOP for signing up: unit PT scheduling takes place as a first come first serve basis.
7. Mrs. Leanne Miyasaki, Human Performance –
Services Available: All Active Duty Service Members, Dependent, Retirees and Veterans are
offered: metabolic resting rates, body fat analysis and O2 max assessments. This is designed for
athletes and is offered at 4 locations: 53 Area recreation center, MCAS, 52 Area recreation center,
and Paige Field House. This service is open to everyone and there are briefs regarding health and
wellness being offered to any unit upon request.
Meal Prep Meet-Ups - Human Performance is partnering with SMP Rec Centers to do monthly
meal prep events have increased which has only increased due to supply and demand. Upcoming
dates for Meal Preps: May 7th 1130 at 22 Area SMP, May 14th 1130 at 21 Area SMP and May 21st
1130 at 53 Area SMP.
May 08 – Nutritional 101. Nutrition and Fitness BCP, 8 hour course, must register. A FREE 1
hour class to help weight loss and learn to eat healthy
May 22 – Nutritional BCP. This is a great class if you need to lose weight, you’re on the BCP
program or just want to learn how to eat healthy. Seating is limited – first come first serve

attendance where you get to meet with and network alongside some of the VPs of the West
Region Marine Corps bases.
11. Volunteer Opportunities and Upcoming Trips - Subjects discussed were in SMP agenda (Attachment

05/02 – Camp Pendleton Installation SMP Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 0900 at 13
Area Pool.
05/03 – Paintball Tournament At Camp Pendleton Paintball Park, FREE event from 0800 – 1600. 5 Person
teams. Equipment, paintballs and lunch provided. Limited to the first 16 teams. Team Captains submit
team roster and team name to complete registration. Registration currently open until full.
05/17 – Disneyland $80.00 per person, includes transportation and park hopper 3-day entry. Group departs
Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0700. Absolutely no refunds after May 14th for any reason. Registration
currently open until May 14th or until full.
05/24-27 Las Vegas – $100 per person includes transportation and 3-night stay at hotel on the Las Vegas strip.
Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0730. This trip is full, but taking names for a waitlist.
06/05 – MCAS Camp Pendleton & MAG-39 Council Meeting monthly meeting will be held at 1200 at Hall

06/14 San Diego County Fair – With attendance of 1,565,933 people last year, you have to see what all the
excitement is about! $10 per person includes transportation and admission into the fairgrounds. Group
departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 1200. Registration opens May 8th and closes June 12th or until
full.
06/21-23 Zion National Park - Camp and hike in the gorgeous canyons of Utah! $40.00 per person includes
transportation, camping gear and meals while in camp. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0700
on June 21st. Registration opens May 8th and closes June 31st or until full.
06/28 Snorkeling in La Jolla – Explore the ocean by snorkeling in La Jolla! A mere $5.00 gets you a day of
play in La Jolla with use of snorkeling gear. Lunch provided, registration is required to plan for food and
gear. Group meets for departures at Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0900. Registration opens May 21st and
closes July 25th or until full. Be sure to have your shoe size ready!

May 08 – Individual Grappling Tournament – Paige Field House. Registration 0730-0815.
This is an individual event. Weight classes will consist of (135, 145, 155, 170, 185, 205 and heavy
weight = over 206). No GI or Boots and Utes. Mouthpiece and head gear are optional.
May 15 – Swim Meet – 13 Area Pool. Registration 0730-0815. Five people per team. Each team
member is to compete in one individual event and one relay to obtain CG Cup points. Events: 50m
Front Crawl, 50m Backstroke, 50m Sidestroke, 50m Breaststroke, 100m Front Crawl, 25m
Cammie Blouse and Bottom swim, 4 x 50m freestyle relay, 4 x 50m IM relay (back,
butterfly/sidestroke, breaststroke, freestyle). Bathing suit is required. Each team is to bring one
cammie blouse/bottoms required for the 25m Cammie swim.
May 22 – Combat HIIT Challenge – 43 Area Football Field. Registration 0730-0815. This is a
competition consisting of strength, power, speed, agility and endurance events. Separate male and
female categories. All HITT events culminate into HITT Prelims for USMC HITT
Championships. Boots and Utes required.
May 29 – Dodgeball Tournament – 11 Area Paige Fieldhouse. Registration 0730-0815. This is a
team event. Teams may be co-ed. A maximum of 10 platers on a team. Team rosters are frozen
after a team has played their first game. Now switching players from eliminated teams to another
team still in the tournament. Uniforms are optional. Pennies and dodgeballs will be provided.

May 04 – Sneak Peak: Detective Pikachu – Wristband distribution and doors open at
*11:00am. All guests, including children, must be present to receive a wristband for admittance.
Theater staff will put wristbands on all guests. All seats will be on a first come, first served basis.
Once guests receive a wristband they may enter and exit the theater freely. Valid
military/dependent/DOD ID required for admittance. Each valid ID may bring up to 4 guests for

Stables, Bldg. 1516. Clean & groom horses, clean stalls, &
help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the
day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required.
A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity.
Participants must sign up prior to the event. Bring water!
Retirement Home Visits - 1600 Have dinner with the residents. Charlies are the required uniform. Max of 6-10 volunteers for each opportunity. You MUST register BEFORE the event.

events running from dance competitions and ballet
competitions to Motown music and salsa music performances.

18 MAY Mission Continues: Knob Hill Elementary Join San Diego 2nd Platoon 0900 - 1300 for a campus
beautification that includes: weed removal, planting vegetation,

18-19 MAY Climb For Heroes Event - 0800- 1700 at
Mt. Baldy. Assist with a day-hike, accessible to all fitness levels

10 MAY PE Fitness Challenge - Volunteers will host
an all-day fitness challenge at a local elementary school. All
volunteers must meet at Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0630.
Please eat breakfast before you arrive. Dress attire is the
Marine Corps Running Suit with green PT shorts & plain skivvy
shirt underneath. Lunch will be provided. 40 volunteers needed.
