Most of our school community would now be aware that we have recently conducted a review of the compressed curriculum that was being offered within the College Model at Batlow Technology School.

The responses from staff, students and parents have been discussed by the executive staff at Batlow Technology School. As a result, the executive team have made a unanimous decision to return to a traditional model for our senior students.

What will this mean to students currently in their senior years?

College I and College II students will complete their studies within the College model structure. No changes.

For our current Year 10 students, they will complete the remainder of the year in their Year 10 classes. Commencing the Preliminary Year (Year 11) at the beginning of Term 1, 2016.

Further details outlining the transition process will be provided during a scheduled information evening early in Term 3.

Batlow Technology School staff provide a daily breakfast program for all students. The staff continually volunteer their time to provide a variety of foods which include toast with assorted spreads, cereals, milo and poached eggs. Staff are delighted with the demand created by students who regularly attend to have a bite to eat and a chat.

To provide this service daily does develop hidden costs to our school. These costs affect the bottom line to canteen running costs for the year.

In Term 3, I would like to establish within our school that each child contribute $5.00 for the term to enable the canteen to continue functioning in its current form.

The $5.00 you pay can be viewed in the following way:

$5.00 for the term = 50 cents per week = 10 cents per day to access the breakfast program.

This is incredibly great value!

I seek your support to enable our school to deliver and maintain such a valuable resource. Further information relating to payments will be made available early in Term 3.

Australia Women’s Seven’s Rugby Union Captain Sharni Williams called in to Batlow Technology School to say hello.

It was wonderful to meet Sharni and hear about her trip to Rio in August 2016 to compete at the Olympic Games.

Students and Staff at Batlow Technology School wish Sharni all the very best.

Please enjoy the holidays and be safe.

The capacity to learn is a gift;

The ability to learn is a skill;

The willingness to learn is a choice.

Fettuccine with Ham and Corn:

Ingredients:

400g fettuccine

2 x 130g cans creamed corn

1 cup (125ml) cream

80g ham (cut into strips)

2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley

Method:

Fill a large pan with salted water and bring to the boil. Add the fettucine, stir well to separate the strands

and cook according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Drain well.

Meanwhile, heat the creamed corn and cream in another pan until boiling, then reduce the heat and add

the ham. Simmer for 3 minutes and season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Divide the fettucine among four serving plates and pour over the ham and corn sauce. Toss gently, then

scatter with the parsley and serve.

This fortnight in cooking the students from K-6 enjoyed creating a delicious two-course meal. For our main

course this week we made a delicious creamy ham and corn fettuccine. This was a fantastic simple recipe

that many of the students felt they could teach their parents to make at home. Our dessert was Grandma's

Apple Custard, which was a yummy, warm, sweet treat that we all enjoyed cooking and eating. The primary

students at Batlow Technology School are very fortunate to have such wonderful cooking facilities within

our school and we all really enjoy getting in there and learning some wonderful life skills in the kitchen.
