Everyday Stewardship

Recognize God in Your Ordinary Moments

I love watching replays of great sports highlights. Sometimes you see something so

extraordinary that you tell others they have to see it to believe it. The one-handed

catch, the in-the-park home run, and the photo finish are all examples of these

types of moments. They are amazing feats that boggle the mind.

I wonder how many people in biblical times saw Jesus perform miracles and

told others they wouldn't have believed it unless they saw it with their own

eyes. Of course, we believe the stories of his miracles, and we didn't see them

in person. We do believe them, don't we?

There is no television program that features replays of the actual miracles Jesus

performed 2,000 years ago. However, there are miracles every day for the

world to see. Many of those come about by allowing God to work through us.

People are waiting to be healed and fed, and mountains are waiting to be

moved. There might not be a replay for these miracles either. However, people

will be amazed by the power of God. Jesus said we could do these things if we

had faith. Blessed are those who believe but who have not seen. Furthermore,

blessed are those who perform great works with God so that others may see.

A veces veo algo

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

“Grace is an inward, supernatural help or gift that God

bestows on human beings for the good of the

soul.” (Dictionary of the Liturgy by Rev. Jovian P. Lang,

OFM)

“‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect

in weakness.’ I will rather boast most gladly of my

weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell

with me.” 2 COR 12:9

Weakness, in the view of our society, may be unacceptable,

not a quality chosen to embrace. Most will not admit being

weak, nor boast of it. If we understood “the power of

Christ” dwelling in us and believed in its strength, perhaps

we would pray for God’s grace to enter and provide that

strength.

Saint Paul always offered grace and peace to those he

encountered. God’s gifts of grace and peace equip us to

meet each day with unparalleled strength and

determination.

Armed with grace and peace, Stewards accept God’s will

throughout life, in all circumstances, despite doubts or

concerns. We possess the confidence and strength to do

what God commands. He not only calls us; he provides for

our journey.

“The wonderful thing is saying yes and accepting God’s

grace. We could say no and walk away. But when we say

yes and go forward, great and wonderful things will

happen. It takes courage in the midst of fear, but you do it

with the grace of God.

–Father Mychal Judge”1

Our many gifts and talents can afford us direction on our

earthly journey. However, our use of these gifts and

exercise of our many talents are usually hampered by our

human weaknesses. Our ability to recognize the path we

are on and avoid or overcome the obstacles on that path is

often obstructed by our human tendency to doubt or

question. We place trust in ourselves rather than God.

Why not turn to our Blessed Mother who exemplifies pure

faith, hope and love and who never hesitated to say “yes”

to God?

“Mary completes the waiting hope of the women of the

Old Testament, and she guides us on our own path as we

find, not only who we are in Jesus, but all the possibilities

of who we can be if we allow him to draw near to us and

transform us with grace and mercy.”2

Stewardship and Engagement

Cristo more conmigo". 2 COR 12:9

gracia y misericordia" 2.

Pastor’s Message by Father Oscar Martin Picos

The 23rd

Sunday in Ordinary Time / 23° Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

otro Dios quien habla y viceversa.

Nunca he visto un anuncio

Me invita a

siquiera sabemos formular bien esas preguntas. Nuestra

y yo...

Today's Gospel tells us of Jesus’ miraculous

healing of a deaf man with a speech

impediment.

Deafness is the condition of being unable to

hear. A speech impediment is a defect in a

person's speech, such as a stammer. Hearing

and speaking are the two basic aspects of verbal

communication, the way people share information and

feelings by talking to each other.

Hearing and speaking pervade the Scriptures. A mortal

speaks and God listens; God speaks and mortals sometimes

listen and other times fail to hear, understand or follow the

Word of the Lord.

Today we are surrounded by the deaf and dumb. Many people

feel they have no one to listen to them or talk to them. They

may communicate in colloquial language or exchange emails,

texts or tweets about mundane matters, but they are unable to

express what is in the depth of their soul or to understand

others’ innermost thoughts, needs and feelings.

The Word tells us that Jesus touched the deaf-mute’s ears

and tongue, looked up to heaven, sighed and said “Open!”

and immediately the man’s ears were opened, his speech

impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. Jesus raised

His eyes to heaven to show that His help came from God.

He not only healed the deaf-mute’s physical affliction, but

also opened his ears to the Word of God. With that, a new

creation began.

This deaf-mute represents the whole of humanity, unable to

perceive a Word that is capable of healing and saving us.

The deaf mute is you and I.

This Gospel does not fit into the current canons of

consumerism that surround us. We never see ads on TV that

invite us to be the poorest or humblest or most open. Quite

the opposite. The marketeers invite us to be the most

handsome, the smartest, the best dressed, with the best car

and the best body, superior and closed to others. If we listen

to their message instead of the Word of God, we will have

only solitude, silence and emptiness. We might believe that

we have a lot, but in the end we will have nothing. The most

important questions of our lives will remain unanswered;

indeed, we may not even know how to formulate those

questions. To do so, we must open our ears and our hearts to

our Lord and His saving grace.

Fight the New Drug - Pornography

Different from any other

time in history, people are

experiencing the side-effects

of widespread pornography.

Pornography is more

accepted, accessible, afford-

able, and anonymous than

ever before. Today we see a

generation of people indulging in pornography, unaware

of its harmful effects. The general public at large remains

disconnected from the overwhelming research detailing

the highly addictive nature of pornography and its

damaging effects on individuals, relationships, and society.

Saint George Catholic Church is hosting a national

speaker, Parker Hymas, from Fight the New

Drug, Monday, September 10, Kuzy Hall from 7:00 to

8:00 pm. You will have an opportunity to ask questions,

learn how to bring the topic up, what to ask, what to say,

etc. It is a presentation for everyone, adults of all ages,

come as a family, and children 11 and up are welcome. Saint Therese Gift Shop

We are now OPEN during the week starting Tuesday,

September 4. Come in and look around at the variety of

once loved items which have been donated by fellow

Parishioners. We also have a variety of Holy Cards,

Crucifixes, Statues, Children's books, Rosaries, Auto

Devotionals, and much more. If you don't see what you

need, I would be happy to see if I can special order the

item(s) through my catalogs.

Hours: Tuesday - Friday, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm and after

orador nacional, Parker Hymas, de Fight the New Drug,

bienvenidos.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

For those who feel the stirring of faith and

curiosity in their heart...RCIA or the

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is a process by

which the community initiates into its midst non-

baptized adults, baptized adults from another faith

seeking communion with the Catholic Church, and

those preparing for full initiation through the

Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. RCIA is

primarily a journey of faith that begins with wondering,

asking and seeking; continues through hearing God’s

word, studying, discussing, and praying; and leads to a

commitment through the sacraments of initiation to a life

of faith and love in communion with Catholics throughout

the world.

We meet every Monday night, 7:00 pm, Scanlan FL2.

Please contact Judy Coryell (925-786-0257) with any

questions.
