STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD

Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida

Trinity: “The mystery of one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The revealed truth of the Holy Trinity is at the very root of the Church’s living faith as expressed in the Creed. The mystery of the Trinity in itself is inaccessible to the human mind and is the object of faith only because it was revealed by Jesus Christ, the divine Son of the eternal Father.”1 Person, Divine: “Hypostasis in Greek; the term used to describe the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in their real relation to and distinction from one another within the unity of the Blessed Trinity. Each of the three Divine Persons is God.”1 “Me, myself, and I is the exact opposite of who God is in the Holy Trinity. … We were meant for relationship, not individualism. God came to us as a family, and we are all part of that family, meant to emulate the same life-giving and selfless exchange.”2 One of the shortest prayers and yet most powerful, both in word and gesture, that honors the Trinity, is: “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.” We have the opportunity to profess publicly our belief in the Trinity whenever we openly bless ourselves, especially during a meal in a restaurant or other public gathering. Amen: “A Hebrew word meaning ‘truly; it is so; let it be done,’ signifying agreement with what has been said. The prayers of the New Testament and of the Church’s liturgy, and the Creeds, conclude with ‘amen.’ Jesus used the word to introduce solemn assertions, to emphasize their trustworthiness and authority.”1 And, so it is when we receive the Precious Body and the Precious Blood of our Lord. We approach the Priest, Deacon, or Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and are invited to receive by the words, The Body of Christ and/or The Blood of Christ. We respond, Amen – it is so! “In the Eucharist Christ offers his Body and Blood as food under the signs of bread and wine. The bread we eat and the cup we drink is truly Jesus Christ. Yes, it is Jesus. It is his real presence. He is present to us in many ways. The Eucharist is his most powerful and intense presence.”3 Mysteries of and within our Catholic faith abound! May we, without doubt, always respond – Amen! 1Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, Glossary 2Beyond Me, My Selfie, and I by Teresa Tomeo 3Meeting God in the Upper Room by Monsignor Peter J. La Trinidad: “El misterio de un Dios en tres Personas: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.

Years ago a friend offered counsel to a man married only a few months. “Don’t show any weakness,” said the friend. “It is extremely important that you establish who is boss. Otherwise the rest of the family will walk all over you.” The recently married man had

been feeling that others were taking advantage of him from time to time. So he decided to accept his friend’s advice and insist on his way in absolutely everything. A month later, other members of the family were heartbroken by his egoistic turn. “What happened to the one who loved us and cared for us?” they demanded. “What did we do to cause you to become so mean?” they cried. “Does our life together really mean nothing to you?” they shouted through hot tears. The husband panicked in his heart. He did not at all want to lose his family and yet he was afraid that if he abandoned his friend’s advice at this point, the others would know his weakness and he would be manipulated. The man did not say a word. But he desperately hoped that no one would leave him. The position of the newly married man was one of slavery. He was a slave to fear, the fear of being manipulated and the fear of losing those closest to him. This weekend’s second reading proclaims the opposite kind of position: “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, ‘Abba, Father!’” “Abba, Father” is a term of love and closeness. All else fades before this kind of love. Fear is outmatched by love and hope conquers desperation. The second reading observes that this kind of love is a gift from God, something coming through the Spirit of God. The people of the Old Testament tried to manipulate God from time to time. This hurt and angered the Lord and ultimately it made those people of the Old Testament slaves of fear in one form or another. The people of the New Testament tried to fit Christ into what they thought the Messiah should be. This hurt and angered the Lord and ultimately it made those people of the New Testament slaves of fear in one form or another. God, the Holy Trinity, is a constant and profound giving of self. The Father and the Son give to each other their selves and the Holy Spirit gives himself to the Father and the Son. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are the exact opposites of egoism and fear. By their very nature they give and receive. And so in the second reading, the Spirit offers people the power to be like the Son and so to become heirs to life in the Father.

Mass In Honor of Our Lady

Join fellow parishioners at Mass in Honor of Our Lady at 8:00 am on the first Saturday, June 5th

STAND FOR LIFE From Conception to Natural Death

Summer Schedule We will continue our prayers for Life the

1st Saturday of the Month on Bluff St. & 600 South, starting at 9:30 to around11:30am. Wear appropriate modest clothing, bring a water bottle, bring a chair and your rosary. Signs are provided - carry one or not. Like life, there are always sacrifices to be made. Sacrificing 30 minutes (or whatever you can do) by offering it up to the Lord once a month is so very little and the benefits bring great rewards. We hope to see you there.

St. Therese Gift Shop

Come in and look around at the variety of Bibles, children's books, holy cards, greeting cards, prayer books, jewelry, statues, crucifixes, rosaries and items which have been donated by fellow Parishioners. Give that special someone a gift for celebrating a Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation, Mother's Day, Father's Day or Graduation.

If you would like to be put on the Reserved List for the 2022 Sunday Missal in English or Spanish, come in or call and leave your name and the quantity. I need to know by June 27th.

HOURS: Tuesday - Friday 10am - 2pm and ONLY after the 5pm Mass on Saturdays and after all the Masses on Sundays.

SUMMER HOURS

The Gift Shop will be CLOSED during the week starting Tuesday, June 15th - Friday, September 3rd. Open after weekend Masses only. This is a tentative schedule subject to change, so please check the calendar on the Gift Shop door.

The Thrift Store needs Volunteers. Spend a few hours each week helping our Community and making new friends. You may even find that treasure you never knew you wanted. Stop into the Thrift Store or call 435-673-1029 and speak with Jackie.

Can you help the St. George Catholic Church with a sponsorship advertisement in our weekly church bulletin? With advertiser support, our parish receives this publication free of charge. We invite you to expand your reach with a print ad and/or a digital ad featured on ParishesOnline.com.
