Baptism.. Expectant parents are to par ticipate in the Baptism

preparation program offered in February, June and October. The

Baptisms are then scheduled for the second and fourth Sundays of the

month, after the 10:00 a.m. Mass

Marriage.. Arrangements must be made at least six months in

advance by contacting the parish pastor.

Anointing of the Sick.. (which was known as Extreme Unction or

Last Rites) has taken a different connotation since The Second Vatican

Council. The sacrament is celebrated not only for those who are dying,

but to those preparing for major surgery, the aged, and the sick. It is

time for the Church to pray for and with those who are ill and anoint

them with oil. The proper celebrant of this sacrament is a priest. Those

who desire to receive this sacrament are to contact Fr. Martin,

in advance.

Praised be Jesus Christ! “Keeping holy the Sabbath” ends the first part of the Decalogue, namely the part that instructs us as to how we are to relate to God. For many of us, we think of God as ra-ther unapproachable and intimidating – a bit like the Wizard of Oz, who constantly used fear to motivate anyone audacious enough to approach him. In the fullness of time Jesus came to heal this primordial distrust of God, which began with the first sin and Adam and Eve’s subsequent shame and recourse to hiding from God. To this day, our sins confuse us about God and we tend to run from Him so that He won’t expose us for the phonies that we feel we have become. However, the Jesus we see over and over again in the Gospels seems keenly interested, not so much in our sins, but in our willingness to open our hearts to Him. Remembering Jesus’ words that “healthy people do not need a doctor, but the sick do,” our life slowly but surely exposes the areas of our hearts that for whatever reason need a divine physi-cian. Keeping the Sabbath holy is a commandment because we wither and die spiritually without the healing and rest God alone can give. The night before He died, Jesus implored us to “do this in remembrance of me” and thanks to the Holy Spirit and the sacrament of Holy Orders, we can honor His dying wish by as-sisting at Mass every Sunday. What keeps people away from Mass? Among other things, the shame and guilt that we’re just too sinful for God and that we’d be unwelcome at Mass and judged by others if we did come. Sometimes there is the pride that blinds us to our struggles – we feel that we’re fine without God and don’t really see the urgency of going to Mass. There are other reasons too: we are busy, we need that time to sleep, the priest is boring, the music insipid, and the experience unfulfilling and meaningless. Maybe we could learn to love the Mass and Jesus more this Lent so as to win grace for those who have not yet experienced the glory of the Mass. By the way, when people leave the Catholic Church for another religion they often claim that their new way of worshipping feeds them so much more than Mass ever did. It is for this reason that we have to do a better job of explaining the meaning and beauty of the Eucharist, because no other religion in the world has the capacity to bring Jesus to us in this real yet sublime way. Moving now into the second part of the Decalogue, there are seven commandments that regulate our relationships with our fellow man. “Honor your father and your mother,” – for many people, this can be a great challenge. As Oscar Wilde put it a century ago, “Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; some-times they forgive them.” Our parents opened their hearts to God’s will and thus we were born. For many of us, our parents made heroic sacrifices so that we could grow up knowing we were loved and secure. Just the same, as Father Flanagan of Boys’ Town fame once put it, “There are no bad boys. There is only bad environment, bad training, bad example, bad thinking.” None of us had a perfect upbringing, but some of us really suffered from abusive situations. Jesus’ Father is perfect and He loves the brokenhearted most of all – Jesus wants us to trust His Father so He shares Him with us by teaching us to call God “Our Father.”

May the Father’s tender love heal us and help us to know His Son’s Real Presence in each and every Mass!

tion so the next ministry schedule can be adjusted properly..

Deadline is: Monday - April 10th @ Noon … ** There is a

need of participants in the ministries of lector / servers/

crucifix bearers / Ushers at weekend masses. Please consider

using your time and talent to help out at these masses. There are

reference guides, in the sacristy, that help you to prepare for the

weekend masses. If you have any questions about a particular

ministry do not hesitate to ask Father Martin, Father Sedlacek,

Deacon Jeff Austin or one of the ministry participants who are in

that particular ministry that you have a interest in.

If you would like to be a Minister of Holy Communion please talk

to Father Martin as there is certain protocol for this ministry.

*** Taking place the weekend of March 25th & 26th will be

ministry recruitment @ each of the masses. Representatives

from the various ministries will be available to answer the

questions you may have. *** This is “your par ish” and

obtaining information on the various ministries may guide you to

be a ministry participant in which there is a need now, in all the

ministries here at Christ the King.

Please bring back to church your palms from last year and

place in back of church in boxed labeled for them or you can

burn them, yourself, in a safe manner. They are not to be

thrown out in your regular garbage, because they are

“blessed” .

As winter comes to an end in the next couple months * Please

keep in mind we will be collecting gently used, clean winter

outerwear items in October of 2017 for Mariann’s Closet at

Spencer Schools. Last year was a huge success and we would like

to continue this tradition. Mariann Maki was a beloved 4K teacher

who lost her battle to cancer 5 years ago. Even though Mariann and

Oskar never had kids of their own, Mariann loved to shop clear-

ance racks and garage sales to find deals on clothes for her nieces,

nephews, friends’ kids and kids at school in need. Kids outgrow

coats, hats and boots so quickly! To keep Mariann's spirit of

giving alive, it makes sense to trade and share outerwear your

family no longer needs to help keep all Spencer kids warm next

winter. Drop off gently used, clean winter outerwear items kids

have outgrown at any of these locations October of 2017. Sizes can

range from 4 year old to adult sizes that will fit high school stu-

dents. Note: Donations will not be taken until October of 2017’',

but keep in mind when packing away winter items this spring.

Message from Bishop William Callahan * Diocese of La Crosse /

Bishops Grant Dispensation in Honor of the Feast of St. Pat-

rick The bishops of Wisconsin announce a special dispensation for

Catholics statewide from adhering to the law of abstinence for

Friday, March 17, 2017. This Lenten dispensation will allow the

faithful to celebrate the Feast of St. Patrick. Those who utilize the

dispensation should perform another act of penance (self-denial,

charity, prayer, etc.) in observance of the day.

India Mission Joy,on January 4th a group from Marshfield went

to India for sightseeing and mission work. On Sunday, March 12th

at 12:30 join the group at St John the Baptist School in the

Columbia Room to see photos of the tr ip and projects that they

worked on in India. There will be an India meal at $12 a plate for

adults, children under 15, $6 a plate and children under 4 free. The

presentation which included visiting the tomb of Mother Teresa

and her orphanages in Calcutta will follow the meal. For more

Bishop Callahan’s Lenten Video Message On Wednesday,

March 1, Bishop Callahan recorded a video Lenten message to

share with the faithful of our parish. The video is available on the

Father Berns will celebrate a mass for the unborn child on

Thursday-March 23 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in

Mfld. at 6 p. The Knights of Columbus members will pray the

rosary before mass begins at 5:30 pm and after mass, you are

invited to have birthday cake and ice cream in the dinging hall

honoring Bill Krainz who will turn 100 on March 29th . The

Knights of Columbus are hosting this event.

Shadow Stations This Lent, we will be presenting the passion of our Lord using a

multimedia method known as Shadow Stations. We need both young people AND

adults to help bring to life this dramatic performance. A cast of ~ 12 young people

grades 6-12 will learn and share this prior to Easter. We also need help with music.

Practice has begun. There will be one presentation at 6:30pm April 12 at the

Marshfield Sr. High Auditorium.

World Youth Day 2019 in Panama update The next World Youth Day gathering will be in Panama in 2019.

Because it will be in January, we will not be organizing a pilgrimage but are instead looking at offering a for-

eign mission trip in the summer of 2019. If you have any other questions, please contact Mr. Dan Kitzhaber .

Help with Feed My Starving Children Program Apr. 20-22 Join with others from our parish family to help

assemble food packs for starving children around the world. This year’s goal for this community-wide effort is

to have 1500 volunteers of all ages to pack 273,292 meals!! It will be held at Zion United Methodist (by

Menard’s). We have three time slots reserved. Th 4/20, 6:30-8:30pm / Fr 4/21, 4-6pm / Sa 4/22, 8-10am

CATHOLIC Adventure Camp July 9-14. This is for teens currently in grades 6-12. Crosswoods Christian Adventure

Camp, located south of Ashland, has been reserved for the Diocese of LaCrosse! This high adventure week

will offer you the chance for rock climbing, repelling, canoeing, mountain bike riding, low ropes and high

ropes, adventure trails, hiking, and time for prayer, the sacraments and reflection on God’s marvelous

creation. The total cost will be about $400 for youth and $200 for adults. Signup soon. Financial help is

March 15 - St. Joseph’s Table will be celebrated by the students. A food drive is part of this activity and all

are welcomed to bring in food donations. Baskets are available in the gathering room. Deacon Jeff will be

blessing the food and the older students will have time in adoration.

March 22 & March 29 - Lenten confession for the CCD students from 6:30 - 7:45pm. After the students have

celebrated the sacrament, adults are welcomed to attend, we do need to make sure our students go first.

April 5 - Stations of the Cross for the CCD students. We will have the younger grades go first and then the

older students will pray the more traditional version.

April 12 - No CCD classes. Everyone is encouraged to attend Shadow Stations in Marshfield as this is the

Wednesday of Holy Week and Shadow Stations are a unique experience of the Passion of our Lord.

April 30 - First Holy Communion at the 10am Mass.

Box Tops for Education * If you would like to donate your box tops or Milk Moola milk caps and bag tops from Kwik Tr ip, please give

them to the person selling Gift Cards after Mass that you are attending. They will be forwarded to the Columbus Catholic School system so they

may benefit. Many other programs, like the Campbell Soup Labels, have been discontinued.

Save the date: There will be Basic Evangelization Training provided on Friday evening, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 in La Crosse by

Adam Jahnke, a national speaker from St. Paul Evangelization Ministries. We hope to send any interested parishioners. This will be an

Pilgrimage to Our Lady of Good Help On Saturday, April 22nd there will be a pilgr image to the Shr ine of Our Lady of Good Help, near

Green Bay. A day of prayer, this pilgrimage will include Mass at 11:00 AM and praying of the Rosary at 1:00 PM. Pilgrims will also have the

opportunity to visit the apparition site and other devotional sites. The cost is $25.00 per person. There will be a chartered bus transporting the

pilgrims to and from the shrine. There will be several pick-up and drop-off sites between Medford and Hatley for everyone’s convenience. To

Holy Family Prayer Icon - The Knights of Columbus is again hosting the Holy Family Prayer Icon. The image is a copy of the original Icon

which features an etching of the Holy Family by the 18th century artist Giovanni Balestra. Fr. John Eisen Council will have the Icon in the

Marshfield area from March 26th to April 1st. This picture will be @ Christ the King Parish on Thursday morning, March 30, 2017.

Plan to attend the 8:30 am mass and than view this Holy Family Icon after mass.
