Second Grade News Angie Gilmour, Brent Saar, Mary Cantlin, Kirsten Alburg, Margie Karasti October 2016 Math: Upcoming Events: THIS MONTH IN… We dove right into our new reading curriculum and the students are enjoying the variety of books, as well as the content. Here is some information about what we will be learning and studying in October: • Theme: What does it take to survive? • Reading Focus: Inferencing • Phonics(spelling): • Week 1 r, l, and s blends • Week 2 r, l, and s blends • Week 3 ch, tch, th, wh, • Week 4 sh, ph, -ed, and -ing • Grammar: verbs and contractions • Writing: We will be working writing opinions and narratives. Students are working hard to include an introduction, at least 3 details, and a closing in each piece they write. Reading and Writing: We will continue to work on adding and subtracting within 20, as well as practice place value(reading and writing numbers 0-1,000) and measuring objects in standard(inches/centimeters) and nonstandard(cubes, paper clips) units. October 5 th Class Pictures and make ups/retakes October 10 th No School for students October 20 th and 21 st No School for students October 24 th – 28 th Parent/Teacher Conferences October 28 th Halloween in the classroom and Halloween Carnival at night
