Sarasota Association of Realtors®Celebrated (and Made) History in 2013
The year 2013 was an historic one for the Sarasota Association of Realtors®, filled with individual and organizational
accomplishments, watershed moments, a positive real estate market transition, and an encouraging sense of forward stability and progress in our community.
SAR set a major goal of raising the bar on the professionalism of our members, and we were able to assist hundreds of Realtors® in achieving passage of their Code of Ethics training requirements.
We offered a remarkable number of high-quality, valuable
educational forums, well-attended by our members. See the amazing stats on Page 12.
We provided important opportunities for our members to advocate for laws, programs and initiatives that supported the real estate industry through RPAC (Realtor® Political Action Committee).
We successfully supported the Commercial Investment Division in their achieved goal of becoming an NAR Accredited Commercial Organization. They did it, and were also recognized as one of only six ACE (Accredited Commercial Excellence) award winners this year!
We created and continued altruistic partnerships in our community, with Habitat for Humanity, Community-Assisted and Supported Living (CASL), and many other organizations.
Finally, we welcomed our members into our brand new, state-of-the-art facility - a new home for SAR for the decades to come.
Thank you, SAR members, for making these dreams come true in 2013 - our success is certainly your success! And we can’t wait for 2014!

Volunteerism WorksAt SAR, It’s All About the People
Without a strong foundation, a home will not long stand. This is true in real estate, and it’s also true in organizations like the Sarasota Association of Realtors®, which was
founded 90 years ago by a group of local industry practitioners and advocates who recognized the value a trade association brings to a diverse business group.
From our founding President Franklin P. Dean, to our current President Roger Piro, SAR has been extremely fortunate to have had a wealth of talented, committed and energetic leaders at the helm, and thousands of volunteer committee members over the years to achieve the SAR mission.

Membership Has Its PrivilegesThere’s an old adage - you can’t get something for nothing. Another saying goes, “If the deal looks too good - it is.”These statements may be generally true. But with your membership in SAR, we’ve forged many partnerships with local
businesses that can actually save you more than your cost of annual membership. These benefits are in addition to the member discounts for many education forums and seminars; the 10 percent discount for magazine advertising; free special networking events throughout the year; and much more.
Simply visit our web site - www.sarasotarealtors.com - and click on any of the member benefit business logos found on the left side of the home page, and start saving today! We also feature a Member Benefit in every Weekly Update e-mail.
Below are just a few of SAR’s business partners offering a Member Benefit:

CID celebrated its 40th anniversary this year! Unbeknownst to the founding members, their first meeting enabled CID and its members to become an influential voice in our region on matters affecting the commercial real estate profession and other interests. The remarkable strides made this year to enhance the value of CID resulted in its highest membership level since 2007. Several key accomplishments have set the path for CID’s continued growth and influence.
- CID Achieves National Accreditation In 2013, CID earned the distinguished Commercial Services Accreditation from the Commercial Real Estate Division of the National Association of REALTORS®, one of only 110 commercial groups throughout the US to meet the requirements for this designation.
- CID Named ACE Award WinnerSAR was selected to receive a 2013 ACE Award from the National Association of Realtors®, for Accredited Commercial Excellence, in recognition of extraordinary leadership in delivering commercial programs that are engaging Realtors® and strengthening the community (one of only six in the nation this year!)
- Education, Networking, ProfessionalismCID members enjoyed enhanced formal and informal educational and networking opportunities in 2013. CID hosted CCIM’s, Introduction to Commercial Investment Real Estate Analysis, a two-day course, and co-hosted the CCIM Mid-Year Market Update at the new SAR offices. The September meeting – Downtown Horizons – was held at The Francis with over 130 attendees, both members and non-members. The scholarship program also continues to provide incentives for members to continue their education.
- Increased Outreach Through Marketing & TechnologyCID’s new website, www.commercialsarasotarealtors.com, is live! This is a large project that CID completed in 2013 and the site continues to improve and expand with valuable information for commercial real estate practitioners. CID developed a new eblast format as well as an aggressive advertising campaign promoting programs and events. The increased visibility and accessibility has been an integral part of CID’s growth this year.
- CID Annual Golf Tournament & Fundraiser a Success! The 2013 event was held at the Founders Club on October 28th and was, again, extremely successful. Funds raised, $10,000 through the generosity of the sponsors, golfers and volunteers, were donated to Team American Cocktail Society on behalf of Makings Strides for Breast Cancer.
The Commercial Investment Division tackled an extremely challenging strategic plan for 2013 and the results are clear – comprehensive outreach programs, new website, enhanced educational and networking opportunities – membership at its highest level in 6 years. CID’s success will continue under the new leadership of 2014 President, Lori Hellstrom.
