While we were enjoying our wonderful Mid-Autumn festive moments last weekend, happenings around the world were reminding us of how fragile would be our peaceful moments.

In Hong Kong, people were facing the potential hazard of Usagi, the most powerful typhoon in recent decades, wh ich had caused ser ious damage e lsewhere. Thousands of air travellers were held up at the airport; one ignorant passenger claimed during a TV coverage that he just wanted the plane to take off before the typhoon actually hit. I was thrilled by his selfish mindset of just putting his own personal convenience and timely arrival ahead of all others safety.

In China, Bo Xilai s severe sentence of life imprisonment was largely unexpected. It would be silly to believe that he just took a bribery of 20 millions RMB, by the corruption norm of Chinese key officials. And it would be equally naïve to view this trial as a serious enactment of Chinese laws. Readers should be able to tell what sort of a political show is taking place in Jinan.

In Pakistan, tens of causalities were inflicted by a suicide bomb in a church. In Nairobi of Kenya several Islam terrorists took occupation of a shopping mall and gunned down many people. Everyone is pondering in where they could really take safe coverage. Differences in religions have been causing injustice and hatred to the breaking point that bring upon such frightening destructive impact. The mudslide caused by stormy rain in Mexico had also taken away hundreds of lives.

Both natural disaster and human devastation remind us of a world packed with calamity and pain; yet there is still hope in life. At this time when Sameway Magazine is celebrating our 9th Anniversary, we have Mary Cheung with us here in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney sharing her encounters with God where she can find peace and the power to rebuild human relation with others, including her family member who deserted her in her childhood. At the same time we are holding Mary s photography exhibitions and fund-raising dinner titled INSPIRE as charity functions for World Vision Australia; through these events we hope our all time supporters and readers can contribute for the cause of helping children and people in need around the world.

Su En Pei the late founder of Breakthrough publication had said: We bring hope to the world not by cursing darkness but through blazing up ourselves. I think in this world where peace is so hard to find we can still bring upon hope through our giving.
