Fr. Jim LeePastor

January 21, 2018 – Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Giving thanks…How can I ever thank you enough for all your kind-ness to me? Your words of care, hugs of love and the outpouring of your support have truly been overwhelm-ing for me. Thank you all so very much. Know that I am deeply appreciative and it is my deep desire to continue to serve you all to the very best of my abilities.Presently I am physically doing well. The cramps I experienced at night and the weakness in my hands and arms are not debilitating. They are more annoying than anything. It is my hope that the progression of my ALS is slow and that I can continue to maintain doing what I love most, being a priest for you. I will keep you updated from time to time, so for now, I may not mention this for a while. Your continued prayers are the greatest gift. Thank you.

Dignity of the human personOn Monday, January 22, Catholics from around the state will gather at St. Martin's University to celebrate the annual Mass for Life with Archbishop Sartain. This time

of prayer is so important, as it is meant to direct our hearts to the giver of all life. Without the proper relationship with God, the issue of taking a human life through abortion becomes so politicized and acrimonious that dialogue in reasoned discourse becomes almost impossible. Let us all heed these words of Pope St. John Paul II:“A great prayer for life is urgently needed, a prayer which will rise up throughout the world. Through special initiatives and in daily prayer, may an impassioned plea rise to God, the Creator and lover of life, from every Christian community, from every group and association, from every family and from the heart of every believer.” - Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium Vitae, no. 100

One Stop Doc – Saint Michael Parish Strategic Plan, Vision 2026I thank the members of the Pastoral Council for over three years of hard work in developing the six elements of discipleship – Grow, Worship, Serve, Give, Connect, and Share – that have guided the formula-tion of our parish strategic plan. I also thank Doug and Vickie Micheau who helped guide this process with input from leadership and parish-ioners. We now have what we lovingly refer to as our “One Stop Doc.” I also thank Ralph Shawver for his graphic

design and drawing together these many elements in a visually beautiful format.

This single document con-tains our parish vision, mission and values, the six elements of discipleship, our future state, the strategic initiatives to begin to realize this future state and action plans that we are undertak-ing to realize these initiatives. Please take this document home and place it in your prayer space. Please take time to pray with it and read where we believe the Holy Spirit is guiding us.

I especially want to draw your attention to the back page. It is a graphic that expresses a life of discipleship, a life cen-tered on Jesus Christ. Let us all help each other in striving to be missionary disciples, seeking to share the good news of our relationship with Christ, who is our true joy and peace.

Construction beginsAs you have noticed, security fencing and other equipment have begun to show up near the Saint Joseph Chapel. One of the hidden highlights of last week was moving a large storage shed from the west side of the church to just outside the school office and gym. This will assist us when we move Sunday Mass to the gym during renovation and once complete will become much needed storage for school programs.Thank you for your continued use of our pink envelopes for your Faithraising Campaign s tewardship of fer ings. Thanks to all who have com-pleted your pledge, to many of you who month-by-month are completing your pledge, and to all those who are pray-ing for the success of our Faithraising Campaign. May God continue to bless you all for your generosity. In Christ I love you.

Six Week Lenten sessions begin the week of Feb. 12

• Small Groups will meet in homes or at the parish each week to:

• Break open the Sunday Scripture with Lectio Divina • Gain wisdom and hear a reflection from Fr. Jim and

others• Share prayer, insights and God sightings in a confiden-

tial setting • Meet other parishioners and share life and faith

experiences • Deepen your own faith/life connection in a supportive

environment

During his witness talk today, Cliff Schroff reminded us of the importance of forming friendships and finding a com-munity of fellow Catholics. An awesome way to do this is in a Small Group. What does your small group look like? You choose! Gather a few friends and take your friendship to a whole new level by starting a new group. Or, join one of the existing small groups hosted on a variety of days, at many times and locations.

To sign-up, simply visit our website and click the “Join a Small Group” post. Look through the available groups, find the best fit for you, and fill out the simple registration form. Would you like to be a facilitator? You can form your own group or we will help you form it. Materials and format pro-vided. To sign up, just click "learn" menu on our website, then "Small Groups" and “Faciltate a Small Group” . “I can’t emphasize enough how directly and lovingly every-one in my group cares and prays for me and each member of our group.”

“Meeting with and forming relationships with those in the small group encourages me to dig deep into scripture and live in a manner that demonstrates this deeper knowledge. The members of my group are really my faith family!” Contact: Michaela Moreau • [email protected]

PREPARE YOUR HEART FOR THE LORD...

SIGN UP FOR A SMALL GROUP!

HospitalityWhat does mean to you?

“It’s the smiling face and hello that greets me when I come to Mass."

"It’s the sharing of faith, asking questions, and learning from one another through small faith groups like Alpha."

"It’s the invitation to come and see what God has in store for your life.”

While the art of hospitality may come easily for some, it may be quite difficult for others. After all, it's not always

easy to give of yourself. And like most things in life, hospi-tality isn’t done perfectly the first time. But don’t stop trying.

When we do it over and over, it truly becomes a comfortable part of our nature. It’s all in our perspective.

23 Information Night on Marriage Nullity

6:30pm in Parish Center Room 7Cecilia Brennan, J.C.L. will present the Church’s teaching on marriage and its key elements. All are welcome.

The Marriage Course is for any couple wanting to strengthen their relationship. It doesn’t matter if they have a strong relationship or are struggling, if they are married or cohabiting.Alpha is designed particularly for young adults who would not describe themselves as Christians, church-goers or simply find them-selves being in need of a renewal of faith. This ministry is based on the pattern found in the New Testament of people bringing their friends, family and work colleagues to meet Jesus! Saint Michael Young Adults, we need your help to reach our peers both in our pews and outside our walls to provide them a chance to explore the Christian faith, ask questions and share their point of view – wherever they are in the world.
