Mass Intentions From Fr. Flanagan

Dear St. Madeline Family, (From Today’s Message, May 19, 2020) With a windy day upon us, my thoughts and ears turned to, “The Answer is Blowing in the Wind” by Peter, Paul, and Mary. The answers surrounding the pandemic are just not concretely known. How many people…? When will we get back to normal? Why? We just don’t quite know. A book that has always stuck with me is “Christ is the Answer” by John Saward, one of my seminary professors. While we may have questions for Christ when we get to those pearly gates, He will truthfully respond, but even more so, Christ is the answer. Jesus Christ is the answer to our prayers, our saving grace, and the source and summit of our Christian life. As we walk along on a windy day, maybe ponder the questions and answers circling your brain. Then, just consider Christ in your life. And that is your final answer. We may not achieve world peace today, but our greatest achievement this day and every day is to be at peace with Christ. Today, let us also pray for the peace of Christ in our lives and in our worlds. Please contact me with any prayer requests, concerns, or good news. Let us stand united in prayer and united as St. Madeline Church. God bless all. Peace, Fr. John Flanagan

Keep Cool Campaign Update: We need you to keep us cool! Thank you! Donations to the “Keep Cool Campaign” have now totaled over $129,457. The Goal is $220,000. We have received contributions ranging from $25 to a new high of $10,000! Thank you very much and God bless you! Fundraising options: *Keep Cool Campaign envelopes are available in Church. *Donations may be made through our website at Keep Cool Campaign. *Monthly and Annual Pledges are an option. *All proceeds from the Parish Cookbook and Christmas Ornaments. *Funeral Memorial donations may be applied to the Keep Cool Campaign. *A parish-wide letter will be mailed soliciting funds. Please consider making a donation for your Church and this project. We have not asked for funds for capital projects in recent history. Many people make charitable donations – please consider your parish and our campaign. There may be some parishioners who would consider a one-time or two-year significant donation. All help is greatly appreciated. If you cannot donate at this time, please consider it in the future. “For God loves a cheerful giver. Moreover, God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work”. Thank you to everyone who has donated and to those who are considering in the future! May God bless you for your generosity and your love of our beautiful parish!

KEEPING THE FAITH: In this strange time of anxiety, canceled Masses and “social distancing,” we all need a way to stay connected with our faith and with one another. To meet that need, Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) is introducing a new, totally free, newsletter: “Keeping the Faith Amid COVID-19.” Every day, you’ll get a list of stories from OSV and beyond to help keep you mentally and spiritually grounded during this time of uncertainty. Let us join together in solidarity, prayer and hope!

Weekly family activity: May Crowning at Home https://catechistsjourney.loyolapress.com/2020/04/pop-up-catechesis-may-crowning-at-home/ SUNDAY MASS READINGS:

Reading I: Acts 1: 12-14 The Blessed Mother joins the eleven Apostles and Jesus’ “brothers” as they return to Jerusalem to live a time of prayerful anticipation of the Holy Spirit’s arrival. We can presume they lived a harmonious community life.

Reading II: I Peter 4: 13-16 The author of the letter states that insults and worse forms of persecution for the sake of one’s belief in Jesus is part and parcel of the faith. Such endurance guarantees a share in Christ’s glory after this life.

The Gospel: John 17: 1-11a Jesus lovingly prays for His disciples in the setting of the Last Supper. He tells of a genuine unity with His Father that is shared with them. Soon He will be coming back to His Father but not before sending the disciples into what He calls “the world.” This means into a world of hatred and unbelief if not total disregard for His teachings.

Deaths: We offer our sympathy, prayers and love to the family and friends of Marie Holland, David Morrow, and Michael Tait. May 24 through May 30: The Holy Communion Hosts and Altar Wine will be offered in memory of Jim Schreiber at the request of the Schreiber Family. St. Madeline Chapter of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul: When we celebrate the feast of the Ascension, we are reminded that Christ’s saving work on earth continues through his disciples … and now through us.

• Is there a family you know who needs assistance? Please call the Society of St. Vincent de Paul so that together we can bring peace to those who are hungry.
