Dear Parish Family, With the long-awaited “return to normal” begun, we have been allowed to return to our church for Mass, the sacraments, and private prayer. Soon, hopefully, we will be able to open up the Adoration Chapel and resume Perpetual Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Last weekend we resumed the Sunday masses, with all the restrictions in place, this past week daily masses resumed. The reopening went very well, and I would encourage you to sign-up for mass, and return to the church for the Celebration of Eucharist. Every precaution is being taken to keep the church clean, organized, sanitized and safe for our use. What a beautiful way to celebrate and honor today’s feast: Corpus Christi! This year, especially is a beautiful celebration. Today we celebrate our greatest treasure, God’s greatest gift to His Church, the gift of Himself, the Eucharist. In the Most Holy Eucharist Jesus Christ is really and truly present— body and blood, soul and divinity— for our Salvation. Saint Augustine says when we receive the Eucharist worthily, we receive it unto our salvation, but when we receive it unworthily we receive it not unto our salvation, but unto our condemnation. Those words should make us all pause and ponder the great mystery we handle... God Himself! After so many months of not being able to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, I am sure that our reception of the Eucharist, especially today on the Feast of Corpus Christi will have an extra, special meaning, for all of us. It will be a Feast Day to remember! Nothing is more important to the life of the Church, to the life of Saint Isaac Jogues Parish, than the Eucharist, and the celebration of the Liturgy. They are the center of our Catholic Faith, our Parish, and our lives as Catholics... the source and summit of the true Christian life. I truly believe that our first, our best, our most special and our highest regard should be with our church, our liturgy, and the celebration of the Sacraments. If God doesn’t come first, we are lost. If we attend to God, give Him our first and our best, then everything else will come. The Feast of Corpus Christi is all about giving the Lord our first and our best. It’s about focusing our attention on the Real Presence of Christ, and recognizing the Gift that is given... finding our Real Treasure! The Eucharist is our greatest treasure. Today as we celebrate this feast in honor of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, let’s pray for a greater faith, love, and desire for Jesus, who is our life, our sweetness, and our hope. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation with all of the directives put in place for us as we continue to “open” our church after such a long shut down. Please continue to practice safety procedures and

ONLINE GIVING Our parish provides Online Giving as an electronic tool for contributions so you can give via the ‘web’.

Online Giving helps you maintain your giving especially while you cannot be here at Mass. This

also helps the parish streamline our cash flow, especially during this time when mass attendance is

not allowed or bad weather or vacation times keep us from attending our church.

Go to our parish website at www.sij.net to get started

today. Our deepest thank you to all who have already

signed up for Online Giving.

It truly has been such a help to us during this time.

cooperate with the guidelines put in place by the Diocese of Joliet and the State of Illinois. Together, and only with God’s help, we will see it through this present darkness. Not only the Coronavirus Pandemic, but also the horrific tragedy and injustice we’ve witnessed in Minneapolis with the murder of a restrained man by the police. The protests, which, in many instances, sadly turned to rioting and looting, have certainly captured the National attention and taken attention away from the real issue at hand. But, the calls for change and reform are needed if we are to live up to our founding principles of liberty and justice for ALL! Let’s pray and invoke the intercession of Our Lady of Peace to help restore calm, order, peace, security, prosperity, and unity to our Nation. “My friends,” the Pope Francis has said, in response to this tragedy, “we cannot tolerate or turn a blind eye to racism and exclusion in any form and yet claim to defend the sacredness of every human life. At the same time, we have to recognize that the violence of recent nights is self-destructive and self-defeating. Nothing is gained by violence and so much is lost. Let us pray for the consolation of their grieving families and friends and let us implore the Lord for national reconciliation and peace for which we yearn." God bless you, and God bless America!

Saint Pope John Paul II: The Solemnity of Corpus Christi

The solemnity of Corpus Christi is a feast of adoration, contemplation, and exaltation. The feast in which the People of God should unite around the most precious treasure inherited from Christ, the Sacrament of His very Presence, and praise, sing, and carry Him in procession through the streets of the city. This is a sublime and

ineffable mystery. The Mystery before which one remains spellbound and silent, in an attitude of profound ecstatic contemplation. In the Sacrament of the altar, all the depth of the mystery of Christ is offered for our loving contemplation... In His Body and His Blood the invisible face of Christ, the Son of God, is revealed. By the Eucharistic Bread we nourish ourselves in order to become authentic witnesses of the Gospel. We need this bread in order to grow in love, an indispensable condition for recognizing the face of Christ in the face of one's brethren. It is necessary to journey setting out anew from Christ, that is, from the Eucharist. We journey with generosity and courage, seeking communion within our ecclesial community and dedicating ourselves with love to humble and selfless service toward all, especially the most needy.”

“May Christians, reinvigorated by His Body and by His Blood, show Christ

to all with their way of life — with their unity, with their joyful faith... with their goodness!”
