SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES CHURCH AKRON, OHIO So how do we memento mori (remember thy death) in the midst of a weekend such as this? YES, it is Laetare Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, which takes its name from the entrance antiphon (introit) for that day. Laetare means rejoice, and this Sunday, we even relax the penitential character of the season so we might remember what the Prodigal Son’s father says, “now we must celebrate and rejoice, because your brother was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.” I know it may be easier to remember the rose-colored Sunday during Advent, but during this mid-time of Lent, we meditate on the joy of the Cross. It is the one and the same joy that unites us to Christ. This should be the source of our greatest happiness, as well as the source of our strength and support. We can still find reason to rejoice, especially during this penitential season, because we know the One who always loves us and Who, with His infinite love as God, will overcome our every trial, fill our emptiness, and forgive everyone of our sins...yes, even that one! As Holy Week and Easter draw near, so do forgiveness, mercy, divine compassion and a superabundance of grace. A little while longer and the mystery of our salvation will be consummated. Pax, Fr. FROM OUR PRINCIPAL...Congratulations to these 15 students who participated in the District Science Fair earlier this month. These students are to be commended for their hard work to prepare for our SFdS Science Fair, as well as the additional hours they put in to prepare for the District Competition. Aidan Kish, Jesse Powers, Aislynn McVicker, Moira Patton, Mackenzie Wood, Lukas Cinko, Natalie Pham and Jack Benoit are advancing on to the State Science Fair. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. McVicker, Mrs. Haver and Mrs. Speranzini for all of their guidance throughout the Science Fair process. They encouraged students to be good Scientists, to challenge themselves, to stay organized and to thirst for answers! We are proud of the representation of St. Francis de Sales! FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT MARCH 31, 2019

Be Faith-filled. Be of Service. Be Devout.I am excited to share information about a new building project, The Memorare Center, in honor of St. Francis’ favorite

prayer for Our Lady. Over the past nine years, we have responsibly repaired and restored many areas of

our parish. It happened not through my hands alone, but through the hearts and hands of countless people who have built up the Kingdom of God through our parish.

As our parish turned 70, it became very apparent things needed to be taken care of to live a spiritually fruitful life. It is now time for us to not only be grateful for what we have received over 70 years, but also to prepare our Church for today and where He is leading us to serve in the future.

After several years of prayer and seeking counsel from parish leaders and parishioners, we must admit we need more meeting places to support our parish mission. The Memorare Center will give us what we need.

In the words of St. Francis de Sales, ‘What a blessing to be blessed by—and with—true friends. They challenge us; they support us; they correct us; they heal us; they forgive us; they journey with us.’ Let us take up this journey together.

PAX! Father G. David Bline, Pastor

The Memorare Center: A Gathering Place That Supports Our Parish Mission

The Memorare Center building campaign is expected to last up to three years for pledge payments to be made. Groundbreaking is planned for Spring 2019 with completion of the project by January 2020. The plan is to construct a 6,010 square foot building on land that is currently part of the sports field. This building will accommodate small and large groups which meet throughout the year and also will consolidate the parish offices. While this building project is approved by the Diocese of Cleveland, no funds shall come from the Diocese of Cleveland and all fundraising will be done locally here at St. Francis de Sales Parish.

Please contact our parish office at 330.644.2225 for more information. Thank you for supporting St. Francis de Sales Parish!
