This year the Nursery to P2 pupils took part in ‘Marvellous Monsters’ where they designed and created their own ‘monsters’ using the K’Nex. They had to think about all different aspects of the monster – did it have to be fast, be able to see well etc. and incorporate these features into the design. The older pupils undertook KNexematics which involved problem solving. There were different work stations to go through, each named as a different continent. We are now into our busy summer term and we have lots to look forward to in the coming few weeks.

K’Nex WorkshopOn Thursday 24th April we had a visit from Ann Larkham who presents the K’Nex workshops. Pupils then had their ‘passport’ stamped as they moved through.

Raasay House ResidentialOn Friday 25th April P7 pupils from Elgol, Struan and Carbost joined our P6&7 pupils for an overnight stay and activities at Raasay House. It started with Raasay pupils going over to greet the visitors at Sconser. The Ferry crew very kindly allowed us a visit to the wheelhouse where we all took turns to steer. Thank you to the crew of the ‘Hallaig’ for offering the opportunity to our youngsters to see life up on the bridge. After room allocations and dinner the pupils had a very full itinerary with games and a bonfire on the first night. It was early to bed and ready for a full day of activities on the Saturday. School groups will usually have 2 main activities per day but Raasay House managed to squeeze in 3 activities of orienteering, kayaking and sailing which made for a fantastic experience for all. Raasay Primary School would like to thank Raasay House and staff for all their hard work to make this a very successful event. We now have several Skye Schools showing an interest in coming next year in what we hope will become an annual event on the school calendar. The aim of this

was to give our young people the opportunity to make friends with their peers from other schools and to aid transition to the High School. It has proved to be very successful.

Living and GrowingThe main topic for this term will be ’Living and Growing’. We will be learning how to classify living things as well as observing and recording how plants grow and what they need to thrive. This will give us a chance to use the garden area and our natural outdoor resources. We are very lucky that Kate Smith has taken on the development of the polytunnel area and, along with some helpers, will be putting a new cover on the polytunnel after our very windy winter!

Lots of willing helpers!
