Below you will find the checklist you need to support schools on their journey to becoming a Rights Respecting School. The tools you need for each step can be found at rightsrespectingschools.ca under ‘Facilitator Resources’.
The steps on your checklist below follow the same overall steps that the school uses in the Rights Respecting Schools: Toolkit for Canadian Schools and the two have been colour-coded to match.

1. Interest in Rights Respecting Schools
Connect with principals, school board members, education contacts
Record information on your school contacts and where you have published advertisements on the RRS School Contacts and Updates Sheet.

members or parent volunteers, and other interested members of the school community.

4. Make a Decision
Notify the GC Manager of the school’s decision If the school proceeds, schedule the Meeting with
the Children’s Rights Team (see Step 2).

were created during Workshops 2-5 Collect the Results of the Initial Rights

16. Implement the RRS Action PlanThe school carries out the plans set out in the RRS Action Plan
Encourage the school to document the implementation of their plan with photos or examples of student work/school activities
Ask that the school obtain signed Consent, Waiver and Release Forms from students in photos or from students whose work is shared with RRS Facilitators as examples
Remind the school of these things to keep in mind:

Work with the school to plan for the next year of the Rights Respecting Schools initiative.
