Welcome to the new season at the Rose, featuring drama of the highest quality alongside comedy, music, dance and family shows.

In February, we are particularly thrilled to be welcoming back Sally Cookson to stage our very own production of Romeo + Juliet. Sally is an extraordinary director with a unique ability to re-imagine all-time classics, her recent adaptation of Jane Eyre received critical acclaim and five star reviews. She will collaborate once again with the team behind our Hetty Feather to bring her bold and dynamic story-telling to Shakespeare’s most powerful love story.

Following a national tour in April, we will be presenting David Hare's funny, stinging political drama The Absence of War, a Rose co-production with Headlong and Sheffield Theatres. Starring Reece Dinsdale as Labour Party leader George Jones, this production promises to be the hot ticket during pre-election madness!

The season includes more work from the very best of British writing, including Tim Firth’s wry reflection on our changing world Sign of the Times and the stage adaptation of John Boyne's poignant novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Other Rose favourites Propeller and Northern Broadsides are returning with two very different takes on Shakespeare – a hilarious 60-minute run of The Comedy of Errors and a visceral King Lear.

Don't miss the new inter-galactic phenomenon that are the Voca People, an amazing group that combines a cappella singing and beat box to create an incredible range of sounds and instruments.

With so much on offer, why not experience more with our season saver or Friends Loyalty Card and take advantage of a series of benefits; or treat yourself to a range of exciting new dishes from our lunch and pre-theatre menus at The Swallow Bakery Café & Restaurant.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Rose soon.

As part of the 125th anniversary tour the Original Theatre company are delighted to be dropping anchor in the origin of Jerome's nautical journey, Kingston upon Thames.

It's now or never for George Jones. The charismatic leader of the Labour Party needs to get out of opposition and into Number Ten.

Plagued by a hostile media, beset by divisions in his party and haunted by his own demons, George has three weeks to convince the Great British Public that he's their man. But how much compromise is he prepared to make? How can you truly appeal to the man in the street from the House of Commons? And which tie should he wear for Prime Minister's Questions?

Rose Theatre Kingston, Headlong and Sheffield Theatres present a vigorous new production of Olivier Award-winning writer David Hare's funny, stinging political drama, on a timely national tour during the build up to the 2015 General Election.

Directed by Jeremy Herrin, Artistic Director of Headlong, whose recent work includes Wolf Hall/ Bring Up The Bodies (RSC), The Nether (Headlong/Royal Court) and This House (National Theatre).

THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS

CHILDREN'S TOURING PARTNERSHIP

Based on the best-selling novel by John Boyne, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a heart-wrenching tale of an unlikely friendship between two innocent boys.

Set during World War II, the story is seen through the innocent eyes of Bruno, the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and devastating consequences.

Bruno's friendship with Shmuel takes him from innocence to revelation, revealing the poetic irony that through a child’s eye everyone can appear the same. A deeply moving and thought provoking production.

King Lear is the story of a family at war. In a turbulent descent into insanity, Lear wrecks his relationship with his three daughters and thus all he holds dear. What is there left for him?

This question, which is Lear’s predicament and Shakespeare’s most genius, invites us all to think upon what we might gain when nothing is all we have.

Jonathan Miller brings his remarkable talent for detailed human observation to one of Shakespeare’s most powerful plays. Artistic Director of Northern Broadsides Barrie Rutter plays the lead role. Be prepared for a ‘Lear’ stripped back to its heart and soul; intimate, moving and utterly believable.

If you’ve seen King Lear before, forget everything you know. You will see it afresh.

If you have never seen it, come.

'Northern Broadsides can bring Shakespeare to life as gripping, accessible theatre for today simply by making the words sing.' The Guardian
