Rome final project

description

Given a piazza in the historic heart of Rome, Italy, the project seeks to reengage the rear piazza of Chiesa Santa Maria Maggiore with the urban planning ideals of Sixtus V. The project manifests itself in the form of a large scale pedestrian bridge, acting not only as a landmark of the obelisk on the site, but also as a way finding device tourists can use. The two piazzas were also redesigned to fully integrate the bridge to the existing urban context, and church entry as it lies along visual axis of the Via Papalis.
