Vocation Rally The Vocation Rally scheduled at St. Augustine’s Church, 55 Main St., Highland, NY with Fr. Chris Argano from the

Archdiocese of New York who also writes in the Catholic New York newspaper, will be held on October 7, 2018

beginning at 2:30pm for approximately 90 minutes. Fr. Chris will gather all in attendance and introduce a

seminarian and a nun to speak. The young ladies will leave to watch a short DVD while the rest remain in church

and are able to ask questions. When the young ladies return to church, then the young men will leave to watch a

DVD. This is open to anyone who may feel called to serve our Lord. Please call 691-7673 or 691-2065 so we’ll

know how many to expect. Light refreshments will be served!

Parish Christmas Cards

Christmas cards featuring a picture of our decorated Sanctuary will be available for

purchase after Mass on the weekends or in the Rectory Office.

There are 10 cards and envelopes per pack for a donation of $10.

Cemetery Clean Up Day On Saturday, October 6, beginning at 9:30am the Knights of Columbus will sponsor a day of

repair and clean up in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. We hope to repair some of the damaged and

toppled headstones in the old section of the Cemetery, as well as do some Fall sprucing up of the grounds.

All parishioners are welcome to join the effort. This would be a great service project for our Confirmation

students. Lunch will be served to all the workers. Not only does this benefit our Cemetery grounds, but it is also a

great work of charity to care for the graves of parishioners who helped to build our Parish.

Fall Parish Dinner

The Fall Parish Dinner, sponsored by the Women’s Guild, will be held on Saturday, October 20,

at 6:00pm in the Parish Hall. The menu includes pulled pork and turkey, coleslaw, baked beans, and

homemade desserts. Tickets are $12 and will be on sale after all weekend Masses.

UNCLE AL’S THRIFT SHOP

The excitement continues as preparations for the BIG SALE proceed. What an abundance of items there are for

the sale! It’s a busy time for Uncle Al volunteers — everything has to be sorted and priced and eventually

transported to the school. That’s right, this pre-season sale will take place at St. Joseph School on October 5, 6

and 8 (Fri., Sat. and Mon.) from 10:00am-4:00pm. And don’t expect an ordinary mishmash of clothing scattered

around on tables. This will be a sale with class, not a rummage sale. Clothing will be hung and tastefully displayed

according to size. Look for really special prices on cold weather clothing — coats, jackets, sweaters, boots,

accessories. Numerous other items, all bargain priced, will be available at the school on those three days.

This is a new seasonal sale for the shop that will mean extra work, and Uncle Al’s crew could use some help in

transferring merchandise up to the school, setting up, and tidying up after it’s over, etc. It is work, but it’s also

fun— we believe in having a good time while we do good work. Please see the bulletin board in the vestibule for

sign-up sheets listing dates when help is needed and other details. Uncle Al’s needs YOU! A big thank you to

those who have already volunteered.

You can also help by donating any winter coats, jackets, sweaters, etc. that you can no longer use. These can be

dropped off at Uncle Al’s during shop hours: Mon., Wed., Fri., Sat. from 10:00am-4:00pm.

All proceeds benefit St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Church.

October is the Month of the Holy Rosary We will have some wonderful opportunities to pray the Rosary together during the month of October:

1. On Sunday, October 7, at 4:00pm in the Church, we will join people across our nation

at that very hour who will gather to pray the Rosary for our Country. You can obtain

more information if you google ‘Rosary Coast to Coast’. Please join us as we pray with

fellow Catholics across the United States.

2. On Saturday, October 13 after the 7:30 morning Mass, we will gather in front of Whalen Insurance on Franklin

Avenue to publically pray the Rosary. October 13 marks the anniversary of Our Lady’s appearance in Fatima. We

will pray for the protection of all human life, for our Country and for our Church. Please join us. For more

information, contact Dan Drogosch at 677-4131.

3. Also, please remember that the Rosary is prayed each day following our 7:30 morning Mass. All are welcome

to join us.

4. During the month of October, to honor Our Lady, we encourage all families to take at least one day and pray

the Rosary at home as a family. Perhaps it may lead to doing this a bit more often. Many blessings await those

individuals and families who honor Mary’s request to pray the Rosary daily.

Prayer for Healing Victims of Abuse

God of endless love

ever caring, ever strong,

always present, always just:

You gave your only Son to save us

by the blood of His cross.

Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace,

join to your own suffering

the pain of all who have been hurt

in body, mind and spirit by those who

betrayed the trust placed in them.

Hear our cries as we agonize over the

harm done to our brothers and sisters.

Breathe wisdom into our prayers,

soothe restless hearts with hope,

steady shaken spirits with faith:

Show us the way to justice and

wholeness, enlightened by truth

and enfolded in your mercy.

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts,

heal your people’s wounds

and transform our brokenness.

Grant us courage and wisdom, humility

and grace, so that we may act with

justice and find peace in You. Amen.
