THIS WEEK’S CALENDAR

Through the Lord’s Supper, Jesus comes to us and grants us His eternal gifts! As we prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper, God’s Word encourages us to examine ourselves. The following questions can help you as you prepare to receive the Lord and His gifts: 1) Do you believe that you are a sinner whose hope for eternal life comes from

Christ alone? Romans 3:23-24 2) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and your Savior? Matt. 16:15-17 3) Do you believe that Jesus is present in this sacred meal to grant His forgiveness?

Matthew 26:26-28

4) Do you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, desire to live a godly life in response to

the Lord’s grace and goodness? Romans 12:1-2

Prepare for the Lord’s Supper

Driving the Word Home

Isaiah 55:8-11 2 Timothy 3:14-17 John 17:13-17

November 19 and November 20, 2016

Pastor Bo Brink

As you leave church today and return home, please take the opportunity throughout the week to consider and discuss the following based on the sermon and the following Scriptures.

Monday – In Is 55:8-9, God says that “my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” What does He mean? How can we find out about “His ways and thoughts”?

Tuesday – In Is 55:10-11, God says that His Word is like the rain and snow, because it “will accomplish what I desire, and achieve the pur-pose for which I sent it.” What purposes do the rain and snow achieve? What purposes does God’s Word achieve?

Wednesday – In II Tim. 3:14-15, St. Paul says that young Timothy had learned about the Bible “from infancy.” Did someone help you learn about the Bible when you were a child? How does that make you feel? Is there a child in your life whom you could help learn about the Bible?

Thursday – In II Tim. 3:15, St. Paul says that the Scriptures (Bible) are able to make a person wise “for salvation through faith in Christ Je-sus.” How does the Bible accomplish this? Has the Bible accomplished this in you?

Friday – In II Tim. 3:16, St. Paul says that whole the Bible is “God-breathed.” What does that mean to you? Why is it important to be a student of the Bible?

Saturday – In John 17:17, Jesus says that God’s Word “is truth.” What do you think Jesus meant by this? If the Bible is “God’s truth,” what should we do with it?

True or False 1. T F People really need a source of information which is 100% true. 2. T F The sacred books of other religions are just as reliably true as the Bible. 3. T F The Bible is the only book worthy of being called “God’s Word” because its authors were inspired by the Holy Spirit. 4. T F Archaeology has repeatedly proven the Bible to be a little off in its history and geography. 5. T F The idea of salvation by faith alone, in Christ alone, and through faith alone is found in the sacred books of many religions.

“Here I Stand … on Scripture Alone”

Luke 8:26-39 1 Kings 19:19-21 Luke 9:57-62

How important is it to you to know the truth on any given issue? How did the universe, Planet Earth, and life begin? Is sin a real concept and does God really care about it? What happens when a human dies? How can sinful human beings be saved?

How important is it to have a source of information which will communicate only the truth to you?

Today we celebrate together that God, in His grace, has provided us with that source of information. It’s called the Bible!

Isaiah 55:8-11 2 Timothy 3:14-17 John 17:13-17
