THIS WEEK’S CALENDAR

Through the Lord’s Supper, Jesus comes to us and grants us His eternal gifts! As we prepare to receive the Lord’s Supper, God’s Word encourages us to examine ourselves. The following questions can help you as you prepare to receive the Lord and His gifts: 1) Do you believe that you are a sinner whose hope for eternal life comes from

Christ alone? Romans 3:23-24 2) Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and your Savior? Matt. 16:15-17 3) Do you believe that Jesus is present in this sacred meal to grant His forgiveness?

Matthew 26:26-28 4) Do you, by the power of the Holy Spirit, desire to live a godly life in response to

the Lord’s grace and goodness? Romans 12:1-2

Prepare for the Lord’s Supper

Driving the Word Home

May 20 and May 21, 2017

Pastor Bo Brink

Monday – In v. 14, Peter says that if we are ever ridiculed or persecuted for our Christian beliefs, we should consider ourselves “blessed”. How do you understand this? In what sense are we “blessed” in this circumstance? Tuesday – In v. 14, Peter says we shouldn’t be afraid of being teased or put down because of our Christian beliefs. Are you ever afraid in these situations? How can we become more coura-geous? Wednesday – In v. 15, Peter says that in all areas of our lives, we should “revere Christ as Lord.” How do you understand this? Can you give examples? Thursday – In v. 15, Peter says we should “always be prepared” to give a defense of our Christian faith and hope, whenever the opportunity arises. How prepared are you? How can we grow in “being prepared”? Friday – In v. 19, Peter talks about Jesus’ descent into hell, as we say in the creed. What was His purpose in descending into hell? Saturday – In verses 20-21, Peter compares baptism to the waters of the Great Flood in the days of Noah. He says that the water of our baptism saves us in a similar way as the water of the Great Flood saved Noah. What does Peter mean by this? How, then, does our baptism help us “live strong lives” for Jesus?

“Living Strong In Jesus”

Luke 8:26-39 1 Kings 19:19-21 Luke 9:57-62

For on-going application of today’s message, please consider using the following questions throughout the week.

1 Peter 3:13-22

whoever enters through me will be saved. John 10:1-10

Are you living strong for Jesus?

What do you think living strong for

Jesus looks like?

Today St. Peter not only answers that

question, but also invites us to

remember that living strong for Jesus

is only possible when we live in the

power of Jesus’ love and victory!

1 Peter 3:13-22
