Deadline for Reel Talk articles and reports
The Reel Talk needs to be delivered to members during the week before the first Club event for that month. I try to get the Reel Talk printed so I can post it on the weekend or the Monday for delivery in the metro area during that week, however public holidays or Australia Post holidays can change that. Can I please have all general articles and reports for the
August Reel Talk no later than 5 pm Thursday 24 July. September Reel Talk no later than 5 pm Thursday 28 August. October Reel Talk no later than 5 pm Thursday 25 September.
I really appreciate getting articles well before the deadline, please. If I have all the regular articles, I may go to print earlier than the dates shown. Please note: These dates and times are deadlines and closing and cut off times, not targets for you to aim to just meet. If your article will be close to the deadline, make sure you contact me well before or risk missing out.

Single membership $100 per year Concession single $70 per year
Family membership $120 per year Concession Family $80 per year
Associate membership $30 per year Independent Junior membership $65 per year

You must pay your fees by 31 July 2014. The above amounts will take your membership up to 30 June 2015. Please contact the Treasurer if you wish to pay by instalments.
NOTE. To help keep Club membership records up to date, please fill in ALL details, particularly for all of the family members you want to be included on your family membership.
There is a place to put your partner’s name, even if they are not part of your Club membership. Knowing your partner’s name and how it is spelt is very helpful at social functions, for invitations, etc.
Please tell the Club your home address and your postal address if these are different. The Club needs to know your home residential address in case of an accident at a Club event.
Please use the blue form in the back of this Reel Talk, attach your payment and post to the Club’s Post Office Box address, NOT to any private address. The form is also available on the Club's website http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/MembershipMain.html
If paying at the July General Meeting or other event, please remember that the Treasurer has lots to do, and others may want to pay too, so please help by having the right amount of money and a completed form and put both in an unsealed envelope or small plastic bag.
Spare forms will be available at the General Meeting, and you will be required to complete the form before your payment is accepted.
If you do not intend to renew your membership, can you please advise the Secretary or Treasurer as soon as possible. Treasurer, Terry Fuller
13th birthday
The first trial pages were loaded on the club's website on 5 July 2001, so the web site will be having a birthday soon. In those early days everyone used slow dial up access, and the whole website had to be fitted into 20 megabytes of storage, which seemed like a lot.
The slow access meant that web pages had to be small files, and images had to be reduced in file size to avoid slow loading and to balance reasonable quality, load times and the number which could be fitted on.
Times have changed, with most people now having fast access, and the website storage allocation is now 1 gigabyte = 1000 megabytes = 50 times the original size.
That allocation is nearly all used up with over 5,300 dif ferent files of Club content including the 60 years of Club's Reel Talk magazines available on line, so soon it will be back to the juggling of content to keep below the storage limit.
For anyone interested, the Internet Archive "Wayback Machine" http://archive.org/web/web.php has 202 captures of different versions of the Club's website over the years starting on 3 August 2001.

These results have been prepared from the original hand written distances and scores recorded on the day. Terry Fuller copied the scores from the score sheets into an electronic format, adjusted the distance scores for the 20 metre measurement setback, and used his computer drycasting scoring program to process the results to calculate the points, add all together, sort into final score order, extract the section winners and year’s best, and the progressive scores for use at the end of the competition year.

Dry Casting report 8 June 2014
I won’t mention names, but those two blokes emerging from the darkness with their headlamps on were a welcome sight, and the “want some help” call was accepted.
Good to see everyone supporting the new sign on and paying procedures.
I don’t get a chance to observe the seniors in action so my comments are from the score sheet. Alan Hale put down some good distances, with Peter Pekaar pushing him along the way. They shared the honours on the day. Congratulations to Glen Wong who scored a bullseye on the single handed event, the smile was a mile wide.
In the veterans, the double handed event was a tight tussle between Gazza Gildersleeves and me, where bullseyes for George and I rattled the can. The single handed was up to a good start with bullseyes to Terry, Klaus and me, with George joining the list along the way. I was running hot and grabbed another 2 clangers.
He may be slow and doddery, but Trevor just keeps on trying, so the bullseye on his last cast in the double handed accuracy put a smile on his face that lit up with pride. He was really happy to be with his mates, so thanks for helping him along. 10 bullseyes in one day is a record.
I will never get tired of commenting the many thanks to those who assist on the day and give a hand bringing in the gear. Pity it’s the same people all the time. This old fella is worn out come lunchtime.
Gentlemen, it takes cooperation to ensure a smooth and enjoyable day, so learn how to use the laser, take your turn at doing some scoring in each section, for it’s called sharing the load. No, can’t be bothered, then you know what my reply will be.
Hendo (Bob Henderson), Assistant Dry Casting Organiser
Using the laser measure
There are no excuses any more for not stepping up and using the laser measure when you are asked.
The instructions "how to use the laser measure" have been printed and laminated and are in the score sheet folder used at the same place as the laser.
So if you don't know how to use it, get the instruction sheet and get some help from the people who can use it. After all, if some people with limited vision and limited experience with electronic equipment can use it, why can't you?

Social Organiser's report July 2014
The Presentation night has been and gone.
It was a wonderful night made possible, firstly by the members that attended with a wish to enjoy themselves. Looking around the room this indeed did happen.
The venue at Woodvale Tavern could not have been set up any better. A big thank you to Mandy and her team of dedicated people. All had big smiles and service to match.
The meals were prepared and served by people who want to give the best of service. The bar staff were willing to go that extra yard to help. The room staff just fantastic always smiling and very attentive to our needs.
We will be back.
The support I had to make it all happen came from George Holman, Terry Fuller and Ray Walker. Thanks very much for helping to set up the room.
Terry deserves a special mention for sorting out all the awards and setting up the trophy table. It looked really great.
Victor Schilo our newly discovered MC for the night. Top job Victor.
Our on the spot camera crew Sandra Wessels and Glen Wong who were in everybody’s face all night, a big thank you
The members that attended owe a big thank you to all our sponsors who are so generous with their donations for our club presentation night.
Please show your support for their business. Make yourself known to them and they will support us in the future.
All our donors are listed on the inside cover of the Reel Talk and company logos on the back cover, and a listing of donations is in this July Reel Talk.
A highlight of the night was the Mini Juniors and Juniors receiving all their goodies. All received a fishing combo supplied by Ozflex, one of our major sponsors.
Backpacks from Recfishwest with more fishing gear in and a bag of fishing regulations from Department of Fisheries.
Reel Talk July 2014 Page 16
By the time it was time to go home, parents had to help carry the load all thanks to our sponsors.
Each table was loaded with bits and pieces of fishing gear all donated by our sponsors.
Everybody received a bag of fishing regulations all up to date, so no excuse for not knowing the regulations.
Members showed their support and donated all sorts of prizes from ladies products to real blokey gear, all given out as ticket prizes throughout out the night.
A big thank you for making the night a memorable one.
Remember August is our Annual General Meeting and election of Committee, so fill out a nomination form and put your hand up to come on your committee. It’s all good and nobody bites.
Please bring a plate with not too much for heating as we have limited oven space. Just finger food is fine.

June 2014 field day, Port Gregory to Kalbarri
Overview. The June 2014 away field day was spread from Port Gregory to the north side of the mouth of the river at Kalbarri with 9 SCAC members fishing beaches and reefs from Frustration rock to Wagoe/Lucky Bay. Overall a very disappointing weekend considering the major effort in driving north and fishing hard. However for these persons fishing north, there were some minor successes in at least capturing a feed.
For the local event, 3 people fished Perth local northern beaches. Also like above not very productive except for one fisherman.
The trip. Two keen Surfcasters made the journey to the Wagoe Chalets camp ground. These were Peet and Sandra Wessels. Pat McKeown, Peter Osborne, Gary Parkinson, Ken Howells, Dean Stewart and Klaus Schönwolf utilized the SCAC house at Kalbarri, with a newcomer to the club, Glen Wong, using the Kalbarri caravan Park. The trip is about a 7-hour drive.
Pat and I arrived at the SCAC house late afternoon Thursday 31 May, Klaus had arrived the previous day with Glen, Gary, Ken and Dean arriving later
With Friday a full day before competition time, we decided to undertake some exploration. I had towed up my small boat on the basis of past successes in fishing Frustration Rock. This is one of my favourite mulloway areas. Frustration is a flat rock platform on the other side of the river at Kalbarri, hence need of a boat to get across the river. While the weather was kind there was a huge swell running and with high tides in the late morning, fishing the reef required diligent fishing to avoid being bowled by a wave.
While Klaus, Dean and Pat fished the small beach to the north side of Frustration, I worked the north side of Frustration, moving back off the reef when a set of large swells comes through. Very hard fishing, not called Frustration for nothing. Klaus reckoned it was the hardest fishing he had ever done.
While we managed to put baits in the water, fishing was slow. No fish or bites from the gang on the beach. At one stage I thought my Christmas had come. Hard hit and a slugging run, but not long into the tussle I thought this is not a mulloway. A Shark of some 10kg +/- was the result. I released same as this black tip reef shark is only an average eating quality and I had images of better fish captures during the competition.
Reel Talk July 2014 Page 17
For the previous day, Klaus had tried Pot Alley, was busted up and landed and returned an undersized samson fish.
Friday evening we went across to Frustration again, and again hard fishing with none of us getting fish. Not a good trial run in anticipation of getting fish for the competition period. Again very tough fishing conditions with swell and weed. However to keep the interest for this spot a fellow fishing some 100 meters north of us on the beach landed a 12.5 kg mulloway just about when the sun was about to drop over the horizon.
On Saturday morning we tried Red Bluff beach. No fish again so took this off the agenda for further fishing during the club competition. However, we found that Ken and Gary had previously tried Red Bluff beach with Ken getting a tailor and Gary dropped a sma ll mulloway just about at his feet.
After sign-on for Saturday late afternoon and evening I again went across to Frustration to chase that Mulloway. I did not stay long as the swell was up and some serious weed in the water making it just about impossible to keep a bait in the water for any period of time, so as soon as darkness appeared I returned to get a feed and good night's rest. The rest of the gang took this hard style of fishing off their fishing agenda and went to the mouth of the river at Chinamans, but again no luck. Chinamans is a much easier place to fish and in the past has yielded good mulloway, tailor, tarwhine, whiting etc. At all places the water was fairly dirty, with a lot of sand stirring up by the swell.
Came Sunday morning I again went across to Frustration to catch a mulloway, accompanied by another keen fisherman who had paddled across in a kayak. Tide and swells were high so we could only fish the beaches adjacent to Frustration. No mulloway only a couple of tailor.
The rest of the gang tried Jacques inside reef area with some success. They fished there both Sunday and Monday mornings. Results from this location gave Ken managed to catch some big storm garfish. Nope, Pat tried but could not get those elusive gardies. Ken also got a small sweetlip, Glen captured a large cod and Pat managed a wrasse. The rest missed out altogether.
Glen Wong with a cod of nearly 1kg biggest caught in the Kalbarri area
Pat McKeown with his wrasse.
Sunday evening I again went across to Frustration. Conditions were nearly perfect, low swell, no weed, tide low so could fish from the rock platform but after 4 hours, nothing, not a touch. So left prior to 7:30 pm, but much to my disgust at leaving so early, find that for the group of people fishing the beach beside me, the young lady in the group landed a 10kg mulloway about an hour or so after I left. I gather Marie is a very keen fisherperson and is looking at joining the club.
Monday morning I started with a spot in the river that can produce whiting, tarwhine and flathead, wading opposite IGA store. No luck other than plenty of tarwhine that would not even go 10 cm. I moved on to try just inside the mouth of the river, again targeting whiting and with first 3 casts had 2 yellow fin whiting, then a series of those 10 cm tarwhine. So I decided to move to Jacques where the rest of the gang had some previous success and
Reel Talk July 2014 Page 18
arrived just in time to see them leave. First cast a herring but despite plenty of burley, this fish was a loner. I then switched to the bottom with a wrasse the only result.
Peet showing how it is done with his quality dart and tarwhine
Peet's dart, a big one caught at Wagoe
Sandra with a dart from her bag of 5, all about this size
Sandra and Peet decided to fish Wagoe based on past experience and camped at the allocated area at the Wagoe Chalets. This gave them access to hot showers, toilets etc. While all of us were working areas around Kalbarri, Peet and Sandra were fishing various reefs down at Wagoe and did have some limited success. Like Kalbarri, swell, weed, and dirty water limited the places they could fish. Matter of driving up and down from the Wagoe chalets area to Lucky Bay and trying to pick fishable spots not occupied by other fishers.
For long weekends a lot of other clubs head to Wagoe for superior fishing adventurers so places to fish were very limited. They went through over 50 rigs due to the wave conditions and reefy bottom conditions. Despite this, both caught tarwhine, cod, sweetlip and a wrasse each. However on Sunday afternoon for a short period they had a hot spot and landed several good dart, Sandra 5 and Peet 8. Peet got the biggest fish of the competition with a dart that uncleaned would have gone close to 1.75 kg. With these bags their total catches were well in excess of fish we caught at Kalbarri.

June Local Field day report
The efforts by our three local fishing Surfcasters, Terry Fuller, Gary Gildersleeves and Peter Pekaar gave the following stories.
Terry decided to fish Swanbourne on Sunday afternoon and into the evening. This is one of my favourite locations to get a feed of Tailor, especially in the summer months, and a good place for salmon in autumn and winter. Unfortunately it did not fire for Terry. Just a well undersized tarwhine and a lot of baits picked clean.
Reel Talk July 2014 Page 19
About 5 pm a fair lot of weed could be seen in the waves where it had been clear before, and of course collected on the line every cast. Terry changed to a heavier sinker to stop getting dragged sideways or pushed ashore by the weed and to leave the bait out for longer. He fished on and but without any luck and the weed kept getting worse with every cast. Another person had been fishing a bit further south and was also having a lot of trouble with the weed, so there seemed little point in shifting spots at this late stage particularly when it was getting hard to see into the dirty and weedy water.
There had been some cloud and rain bands to the south moving slowly for most of the late afternoon. The wind had been very light from the west, but by 5:30 the rain band was moving closer and the wind suddenly freshened from the south west, the clouds and rain bands got thicker, Rottnest disappeared, so the message was clear - make sure the wet weather gear was handy.
A little before 6pm, nearly dark and with no further action he decided to leave the beach. A good call as after packing up and walking for 20 minutes and then packing the gear into the car, still in dry clothing, after driving about 100 metres, down came the rain and kept raining for the 20 minute drive home to Hamersley. How is that for judging the weather correctly?
Gary also went out on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. He looked over his usual spots along the northern beaches, picked a couple of stretches that looked as though they should have potential for catching fish. If there was tailor there was lots of water between them. However he managed one good size tarwhine. But like a true fisherman he goes home and decides not to go to the weigh-in but has fresh fish for dinner.
Peter Pekaar’s story reads a bit better. He fished the south side of Floreat. As he was busy Saturday he only arrived at the beach about 5pm. With a first cast he misses a bite but with the next cast he is on and gets a small but size mulloway, little less than 1.75 kg. Next cast his rod bends double with a big hit. The fish runs south along the gutter, Peter figures he has connected with a good pink snapper. Then nothing, the hooks pull “darn”.
He fishes on trying to reconnect to whatever, but no luck. Goes very quiet so next morning he continues fishing and gets a short run of and lands a few herring. His gear and bait was correctly balanced as people either side of him did not get a fish. Considering the current local fishing opportunities, or lack thereof for just the few hours Peter spent fishing he had a good bag for the weekend especially comparing to the bags or lack of bags the rest of weighed in at Kalbarri. On comparing fish sizes, Peet Wessel landed the heaviest fish for the weekend being a very large dart and was just a couple of grams heavier then Peter’s mulloway.

Reel Talk on the Club website
Australia Post deliveries have been very reliable in the past but last year some members did not get their Reel Talks for a week or more after posting.
The Reel Talks are always posted early in the week before the first club event for the month. If you have not received your Reel Talk, a public version will be put on the Club website by the Thursday before the first club event for the month. http://www.surfcasters.iinet.net.au/

Please keep all your past Reel Talks
Many times, we need to refer you to articles from past Reel Talks to save the cost of reprinting them over and over again when the details haven't changed. Examples are full lists of all details for Field days, AAAWA state events, etc. etc.
As far as possible, this will be done in the form "See the article on page x of the Reel Talk for month year." Please keep all your past Reel Talks so that you can look back at these articles and know what's what.
All Reel Talks are on the Club's web site if you need a replacement copy, or contact the Reel Talk Editor if you do not have Internet access. Reel Talk Editor, Terry Fuller
Please speak up at meetings
Some members have commented that they can't hear what some other members are saying at the General Meetings. Sometimes the background noise, fans, refrigeration, etc makes it hard to hear. And yes some of us are older and our hearing is no longer as sharp as it used to be.
But often the problem is that members are not speaking clearly or loudly enough.
Please consider other members, and speak clearly and loudly enough for everyone to hear what you are saying.
A reminder that all comments should be made to the whole meeting and only after you have been recognised by the meeting Chairman and invited to speak. You may be answering a question or making a comment in reply to a member near you, but everyone should be able to hear everything that is said.
If you don't want it to be heard by everyone, then please wait until the meeting is over. This is all just the standard protocol for meetings everywhere and helps the meetings run more smoothly. Minutes Secretary, Terry Fuller

President's report
Wow! What a night!. The Club's Presentation and a dinner night was he ld at the Woodvale Tavern on Saturday 21 June with an attendance of 45 members and friends. It was good to see all the smiling faces present and those not present missed out on a perfect night.
A special mention of our new members Jason Zerella and Danielle McDuffie and Glen Wong who attended. Glen and Sandra Wessels for helping out by taking photos of the night. Thank you both. Someone kept asking everyone to say "jeep."
Victor Schilo was our Master of Ceremonies for the night and he did an exceptionally good job. He even won the raffle he conducted at the end of proceedings, the winner getting the MC job for next year. Guess who won? Thanks Victor.
When people attending walked through the doors they were greeted by seven tables with places and names for seating and a lot of special promotion material and giveaways from Ozflex, Bladon, Recfishwest and Department of Fisheries which was terrific and started the night off in a positive manner. The work the staff of Woodvale Tavern did as well really helped set the atmosphere for the night.
The trophy and prize tables were a sight to behold as the quality of the prizes and layout complemented the awards the winners were about to receive.
Also on view was a slideshow of over 1700 photos of Club members and history from recent to way back. There were plenty of comments of "there's so and so" when members past and present were recognised.
All this was a result of a lot of work by our social organiser Pat McKeown along with Terry Fuller who help with monies and allocation and listing of prizes. They were both responsible for the night's success which was their reward.
During the evening someone said to me she had a complaint to make about the night and that was she hadn't anything to complain about, it was perfect.
These nights could not happen without our sponsors and they are acknowledged in the accompanying list of winners, sections and donors. Special thanks must go to Ozflex, Bladon, and Strata Asset Services along with club members and special donors who come forward each year.
Eric Parker was our first presenter handing out the prizes for the Barron Lure and the Open fishing section for which he provided the prizes.
Peter Osborne then came forward and gave a résumé of the club's fishing for the year and then presented the numerous awards for the fishing competition.
Meantime our MC Victor Schilo and Pat McKeown were running numerous raffles and as a result there were a lot of smiling faces.
When it came to the dry casting I did the honours as our casting officer was away for three months fishing and Bob Henderson who stepped in to help out was home looking after his wife Leonie.
Peter Pekaar also did his share during the year along with Terry Fuller who had presented us with the results in our club magazine Reel Talk.
There was solid interest in both dry casting and fishing but we would like to see more of you participating.
I will not acknowledge all of the winners as they are all listed in this edition of Reel Talk. I will however acknowledge the major winners.
Caster of the Year went to Peter Pekaar which showed his consistency.
The Marcia Pekaar award for Junior Club Champion went to Morgan Keet. There was keen competition amongst the juniors and mini juniors but we would still like to see more competing.
I was honoured to win the Hans Wytenburg Memorial Trophy.
Reel Talk July 2014 Page 25
The Basil Marsh Encouragement Award went to one of those members who is always helping out in the background by his consistent attendances and work. He was outside the room when the winner was announced and when he walked back into the hall he was greeted by a standing ovation – Dean Stewart. I think he was surprised but it was a well deserved award.
There were two Ladies Club Champions in Deirdre Thomas and Sandra Wessels. Congratulations to you both.
The person I gave the President's award of Club Person of the Year to was Pat McKeown. The Presentation night was indicative of the time and effort he has put in during the year, along with club functions, club meeting catering and dry casting sausage sizzles. He is always a willing worker and has a staunch crew who help him. Pat acknowledged Andy Thorgersen and Gary Parkinson with special thank you framed certificates.
The major award for the night, the Sports Person of the Year, was won by Peter Pekaar. Peter said he was surprised to win the award but he has attended the majority of casting and fishing days and achieved in both sections, with major achievements in the casting section. This is what this award is all about with attendance the priority and achievement the reward which is available to all. Congratulations from us all Peter on a well deserved win.
As my thanks go to all who attended, the prize donors, and the workers particularly Pat McKeown and Terry Fuller who made the night a great occasion (and the MC also)
I am pleased to report that Leonie Henderson is progressing well and Bob is smiling. It is good to see.
Eddie and Debbie Korin are currently in Darwin.
Ron and Deirdre Thomas are enjoying themselves at the Blowholes near Quobba Station north of Carnarvon. Ron is currently giving the fish hell and both are enjoying themselves.
I want to remind members that the election of officers will be at the August meeting and would be nice to see fresh faces coming forward. We need a Treasurer as Terry has to lighten his load as he is doing far too much, so please give this serious thought. There is plenty of help for anyone willing to put their hand up. If you want to discussion the fors and against with me, feel free.
Members need to start to think about the September long weekend venue to be held from Bowes River to Kalbarri which will also be the AAAWA Rock and Beach Championships for those interested. These away events need a bit of planning and working together with camping or accommodation and costs to be shared. Just a reminder.
Enough from me. See you at our next casting morning.
President 2013/14, George Holman
Notice of Annual General Meeting and election of Committee
The Annual General Meeting of the Surf Casting and Angling Club of WA (Inc) and e lection of Committee for 2014/15 will be held at Coolbinia West Perth Amateur Football and Sporting Club room, Wordsworth Avenue, at 8pm on Wednesday 13 August 2014, the same night as the August General Meeting.
All Committee positions will be up for election. Some Committee members are doing far too much for the good of the Club and doing some jobs only because no one else will volunteer. Please consider who you want to be your Committee, and if you can help by being a Committee member. Please remember, if it is worth having, it is worth working for.
The full list of Committee positions and Committee jobs is on the first page of every Reel Talk. If you have any questions about what is involved in doing any one of those jobs, contact the President or the current Committee person. Reel Talk Editor, Terry Fuller

Nomination form for election to Committee
A nomination form for election to Committee for 2014/15 was included with the June Reel Talk.
The form should be signed by the person nominated for Committee, and by the nominator and a seconder. Please return completed forms to the Secretary at any Club event or by post to the address on the form. Reel Talk Editor, Terry Fuller
Voting system at Committee meetings
Voting for election of Committee is by secret ballot, with each financial member present at the meeting asked to vote either Yes or No to each person nominated.
Members should think about how the nominated person has done or will do the job before they vote.
A "must have" should be a willingness to work constructively with other Committee and Club members for the good of all members of the Club.
If a person does not get a simple majority of Yes votes, then he is not elected, even if he is the only nomination. The chairman of the meeting does not have a casting vote.
An organisation or individual which doesn't remember and learn from the mistakes of the past is doomed to repeat those mistakes. Remember what led to December 2009.

Wanted Treasurer
Terry Fuller will not be standing for election as Treasurer at the Committee elections in August. See page 28 of the May Reel Talk. Reel Talk Editor, Terry Fuller
Names on articles in Reel Talk
Before September 2001, articles in Reel Talk were often photocopies of printouts with various different formats, fonts, sizes and layouts.
When I first took on the Reel Talk Editor's job in September 2001, I set out the Reel Talk using Microsoft Word with all articles in similar fonts and layouts. This also meant that a PDF version could be posted on the Club website and the contents could be searched for words or phrases.
During this stretch as editor from 2001-2006, my name did not appear on many articles, even though many were produced by me.
From 2009 to the present, as Reel Talk editor I have made sure the author of each article and updated article is named. Even so, credit is often given to some others when in fact the update is actually all done by me.
So if you look through each edition it will now be clear who is doing most of the work. That's OK, up to a point, because the job of an editor is to take information and present it in an easily understood and consistent form. Having up to date access to results and entries is a must and helps the Reel Talk editor produce each months' edition.
Results for our Club's two major activities, fishing and dry casting, are kept in either the dry casting scoring spreadsheet developed and maintained and with data entry every month by Terry Fuller, or the field day scoring spreadsheet developed and maintained by Terry Fuller with data entry every month by the Field Day Officer, Peter Osborne.
As you will see from the listings in this July Reel Talk, these two spreadsheets do most of the recording work required for the Club's activities during the year, and automatically calculate most of the end of year winners and their scores. Reel Talk Editor, Terry Fuller

Drycasting results 2013/14
The scoring system for dry casting is in the Club's Competition Rules Section 3.6 and 3.8. See also the article "Dry Casting point scoring" on page 30 of the March 2012 Reel Talk.
Results here show totals of best 11 out of 12 months’ scores. Competition Rules section 3.8.1 specifies only the best 11 months out of 12 will count at the end of the competition year.
All of these results are calculated automatically by the dry casting scoring spreadsheet developed and maintained and with data entry by Terry Fuller.

Most improved caster
This is calculated using the best increase in average score per casting day for 2013/14 compared to 2012/13. For the changes to mean enough to be a true and fair comparison to decide the winner, a caster must have attended several (or enough) casting days in both years, and competed in most or all of the usual casting events.
For this comparison, scores for all 12 possible casting days are used, since the people who would be affected by using the "best 11 out of 12 days" scores are well down the list.
New casters who started in 2013/14 will be included in next year's comparison.
There are some very interesting numbers in this list!.
The base data for these results are calculated automatically by the dry casting scoring spreadsheet developed and maintained and with data entry by Terry Fuller. Another Excel spreadsheet calculates the averages and the changes and sorts these as shown.

Fishing Field day point scores and ranking 2013/14
The scoring system for Field day fishing is in the Club's Competition Rules Section 2.4.
Competition Rules section 2.4.5 specifies only the best 11 months out of 12 will count at the end of the competition year for the top ten point scorers.
Only Pat McKeown attended all 12 Field days in 2013/14, so his lowest score of 20 points for September should be deducted from his total in the list of members' total scores and rankings on page 24 of the May 2014 Reel Talk, and that st ill leaves him in 6th position.
