With increasing pressures to optimize costs, it becomes critical that

inspection and maintenance efforts be streamlined or utmost efficiency.

Balancing inspection costs with regulatory compliance can only be

achieved by understanding the risk that an asset poses to a manuacturing

acility. Many organizations are turning to Risk Based Inspection (RBI)

as an accepted methodology, which assesses the probability o ailure

against consequence to optimize inspection activities based upon overall

risk. Companies need an RBI program in compliance with API 580 thatis seamlessly integrated into inspection management and maintenance

    programs.

Meridiums Risk Based Inspection (RBI) module is part o the

Mechanical Integrity work process and an integrated component o a

complete Asset Perormance Management (APM) solution. Meridium

provides a complete risk-based inspection work process ollowing

American Petroleum Institute (API) standards and Recognized And

Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (RAGAGEP).

Developed through partnerships with leading organizations in

the oil and gas, petrochemical, paper, mining and other industries,

Meridiums RBI solution allows operators to ocus their resources on

the critical equipment and relie devices. Te approach allows or a

very structured, consistent method to develop plans that address ways

to manage risk at the equipment level. Te Meridium RBI approach

also provides a better understanding o their current risk and how

to reduce that risk through inspection and maintenance. Finally, it

provides a process or continuous improvement.

Meridiums RBI module offers the key work processes to not only

calculate risk but also to drive the overall RBI program and ensure

that inspection strategies are evaluated as equipment conditions

change, promoting a living, dynamic program.

With the Meridium RBI sofware, a user is empowered to:

Rank fixed equipment based on risk, which is

calculated rom the probability and consequence o ailure.

Develop and implement inspection plans using predefined and/

    or customer-defined inspection strategies.

Execute tasks and document activities identified in the

    inspections plan.

Facilitate compliance and manage risk at an optimum level

using configurable reports, metrics and key perormance

    indicators.

    Upfront Corrosion Engineering

As a key step o the Meridium RBI workflow, corrosion engineering

lays the oundation or an evergreen RBI process. Steps in the upront

    corrosion engineering phase include:

Definition of Corrosion Loops- Meridium enables the

effective development and documentation o corrosion loops,

which establishes the basis or a knowledge management

    system by allowing:

e systematic documentation of corrosion loops for

effective knowledge sharing with inspectors and other

end users in the field. Linkage of marked-up Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)

and schematics to the corrosion loops or easy reerence.

Assignment of Potential Degradation Mechanisms- Afer

corrosion loops have been identified and documented,

the potential degradation mechanisms are assigned

to the loop. Meridium provides a library o potential

degradation mechanisms with the RBI module but also

allows or extensibility o the Potential Degradation

    library.

Management of Equipment Design and Process Data-Equipment design and process data are key data components

which are used as inputs or risk assessments. Meridium RBI

provides several capabilities to ensure all detailed data needed

or semi-quantitative RBI evaluation is available through:

Te equipment definitions maintained in the enterprise

asset management (EAM) system to eliminate any

potential discrepancies between EAM and RBI/

    inspection management systems.

    e creation and management of

multiple RBI components or the same equipment

    item, which accommodates different degradation

mechanism profiles that may exist within the same

    equipment.

e ability to assign RBI components to a corrosion

loop, allowing a top-down approach to

management o the semi-quantitative analysis and

    RBI strategy. Potential degradation mechanisms

and IOW inormation, which is gathered and

documented or the corrosion loop, are passed

down to the individual RBI components assigned

    within that loop.

    Data and Risk Assessment

With Meridium RBI, the risk assessment process can leverage data

rom the corrosion engineering process, the current results o the

inspection and the thickness monitoring program, as well as other

data rom process historians and EAM systems. Using existing

data rom all these locations will significantly reduce the number o

assumptions made during the risk evaluation.

    Assigning Damage Mechanisms

Because Meridium RBI is part o an enterprise asset management

system, the application provides options allowing users to go beyond

the pressure containment requirements and account or other damage

mechanisms and consequences. Once the risk is calculated, inspection

priorities are defined or each degradation mechanism, allowing users

to define a mitigation strategy specific to each mechanism according

to the likelihood o it occurring.

    Inspection Strategy Development

    and Implementation

Using the Meridium RBI module, clients can define and man

inspection strategy rule sets that allow them to baseline us

common evaluation logic o risk assessment results. Utilizing

logic built into the strategy rule sets, users are able to automatic

generate RBI recommendations that detail the overall inspect

plan through the definition o inspection tasks, scope and reque

derived rom the Inspection priorities calculated rom the individ

    degradation mechanisms.

    Strategy Execution and

    Inspection Documentation

Meridium provides integrated Inspection Management and Tickn

Monitoring solutions which are designed to work with the Merid

RBI module. RBI inspection strategies can be implemented

managed within the Meridium inspection solutions. In addition,

results o the documented inspections, findings and corrosion rcan be urther leveraged within the Meridium RBI module to ens

that an evergreen process is implemented.

Utilizing the integrated inspection solutions within Meridium, u

    can:

Document the results of inspections using Meridium Inspec

Management unctionality and drive those findings back into

RBI module by calculating an inspection confidence ollow

    the guidelines o API 581.

Document thickness measurements captured during UT

Using existing data rom the corrosionengineering process, current results oinspection and thickness monitoring

programs, and inormation romprocess historians and EAM systemswill significantly reduce the amount oguesswork during a risk evaluation.

Inspections, perorm corrosion rate calculations using Meridium

Tickness Monitoring and utilize that quantitative data to ensure

the RBI work process is kept evergreen.

    Utilize the Meridium recommendation management

system to centrally manage and implement all inspection

recommendations, and track them to closure.

Meridium is designed to support the planning o RBI recommendations

either rom within Meridium or rom many industry-leading EAM

    systems.

Te Meridium RBI solution helps you develop and prioritize industrial

asset maintenance strategies based on analysis o ailure modes to

determine probabilities and consequences, allowing operators to

ocus resources on the most critical equipment. Te Meridium RBI

approach also provides a better understanding o their current risk

and how to reduce that risk through inspection and maintenance.

As part o the Mechanical Integrity Work Process, the Meridium

Risk Based Inspection application provides the tools and baseline

unctionality needed to develop a powerul APM solution that

supports your workflows and has the flexibility needed to meet

    changing business needs.

Meridium is the global leader in asset perormance manageme

sofware and services or asset-intensive industries. Meridium lowe

the risk o harm to people, our planet and profits by predictin

and preventing physical asset ailures. With Meridiums uniqu

enterprise analytics, our clients minimize production downtime wh

    improving saety.

Te Meridium Mechanical Integrity Work Process and enablin

sofware improve saety, containment reliability and environment

compliance in high-risk industrial environments by profiling fixed-ass

corrosion and containment threats and prioritizing risk mitigatio

strategies based on ailure probabilities and consequence. It aligns peop

and API 580-compliant processes to drive increased uptime and cos
