“ A HEART OF GRATITUDE”

BY PASTOR YEMISI BAMGBOSE

PSALM 34:1-4

What is gratitude?

An act of thankfulness to God

A feeling of appreciation

A show of appreciation for blessings.

There are categories of rivers. We have rivers of gratitude.

David said I will bless the Lord at all times.

My gratitude will flow like a river non-stop.

We are to appreciate God for all the benefits received in the past, and we are to show our

heartfelt gratitude for the grace and mercy received from Him.

There is a saying that when you are thankful for what you received yesterday, you will have

your tank full again.

The drama scenario played out at the Watch Night Service taught us the vital lesson of having

a heart of gratitude.

Psalm 89:1 The psalmist said, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, with my mouth

will I make known, thy faithfulness to all generations.

We are to show our gratitude to our Maker from one generation to another.

When we consider all that the Lord has done for us, we should spend sufficient time in

praising Him.

There are various examples in the scriptures of those who showered God with gratitude.

If wives showered their husbands with praises out of a grateful heart, how much more does

the God of the universe deserve our appreciation for who He is and for what He has done

and is about to do.

When we praise our God, He will show up for us. This is a powerful tool in the hands of a

believer, as praises make God to arise for us in the hours of need, and when God arises, all

His enemies will be scattered.

Psalm 22:3 “But Thou art holy, O Thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.”

Psalm 68:1 “Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered: let them also that hate him flee before him.”

In most countries, the subjects always shower the monarchy with praise. How much more

giving praise to our heavenly King, who reigns forever and ever.

When Jesus was born, wise men came from the East to worship Him. They came with

precious gifts as a sign of their worship. Matthew 2:2

These men were wise because they feared God

The bible says, the fear of The Lord is the beginning of wisdom, if you are wise this year, you

will remember to show your gratitude to God for your very existence.

Proverbs 3:35: The wise shall inherit glory and shame shall be the reward of the fools.

The wise men said, we have come to worship Him. They spent two years travelling before

they found and worshipped Him.

The men believed that there is a God in heaven that deserves their appreciation.

Even the mad man of Gadarenes in his state of madness praised God. Luke 8:28

Many in our churches today do not behave as if our God exists.

The way we behave in His house, it is abundantly clear that we do not believe there is a God.

We do not honour nor reverence Him enough. Mark 5:2-15 Continued on page 3

Winners’ News Issue 7 Volume 1 January 2018

3

Anyone who fails to worship Him is not just a fool but crazy.

If you go through the scriptures, you will see the people who worshipped Him and got mighty

miracles. The saying says, one will only be a fool not to worship the God that can kill and

make alive.

Matthew 8:1-3: The leper worshipped Him and was cleaned.

Mark 5:22-24: Jairus, the leader of the people worshipped Him and got his miracle.

The incurable worshipped and got his miracle.

The one with one daughter worshipped Him and got his daughter raised back to life.

The mad man worshipped Him and got his healing.

Why should I worship Him?

Why should a river of gratitude flow perpetually from my mouth?

We should thank Him for salvation.

We should thank Him for the preservation of life.

You should thank Him for delivering us from evil and birth.

We should thank Him that He is God and not man, otherwise many of us would not be alive

today.

We should thank Him that we are kept by His power as it is not everyone that got saved that

are still in the faith or will make it to heaven in the end.

1 Peter 1:5

We should thank Him for choosing us to represent Him here on Earth.

Matthew 20:16

1 Corinthians 1:26-29

God chooses the foolish, the weak and those who have no worth according to human

judgement as His own.

We should thank Him for victory over our flesh and the devil.

Psalm 124:1-3 We should thank Him for provision.

Matthew 6:26-27

If God does not provide for you, you cannot provide for yourself.

We should thank God for His grace.

We are what we are by His grace. Ephesians 2:8

What about answered prayers when faced with problems nobody can solve except God,

What about unanswered prayers, thank Him for unanswered prayers.

What kind of worship will draw God closer to you?

Worship Him in spirit and truth John 4:23-24

Students seek for knowledge.

Business men seek for contracts.

God is seeking for a true worshipper.

Will you be the one that will show God your unreserved gratitude this year?

Go ahead and worship Him.

Prayer: May our mouth be filled with praises and our heart with gratitude to God

Almighty for all He has done for us and our family in Jesus name.

Shalom!

A Picture of God

A kindergarten teacher was observing her classroom of children while they

drew. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's artwork. As she

got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what the drawing

was.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."

The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."

Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the little girl replied, "They will in a

minute."

The Hushers

A six-year old Angie and her four-year old brother, Joel, were sitting together in church. Joel

giggled, sang and talked out loud.

Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."

"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.

Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door?

They're hushers."

HYMN 1

PRAISE TO THE LORD …...

Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,

the King of creation;

O my soul, praise Him, for He is

thy health and salvation;

All ye who hear,

Brothers and sisters draw near,

Praise Him in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who doth

prosper thy work and defend thee;

Surely His goodness and mercy

here daily attend thee;

Ponder anew

What the Almighty can do,

If with His love He befriend thee.

Praise to the Lord, who, when

tempest their warfare are waging,

Who, when the elements madly

around thee are raging,

Biddeth them cease,

Turneth their fury to peace,

Whirlwinds and waters assuaging.

Praise to the Lord, who, when

darkness and sin is abounding

Who, when the godless do triumph,

all virtue confounding,

Sheddeth His light,

Chaseth the horrors of night,

Saints with His mercy surrounding.

Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me

adore Him!

All that hath life and breath,

Come now with praises before Him!

Let the Amen

Sound from His people again:

Gladly for aye we adore Him.

HYMN 2

LET US WITH A GLADSOME

MIND

Let us with a gladsome mind

Praise the Lord for He is kind;

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

Let us sound His name abroad,

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

For of gods He is the God;

He, with all-commanding might,

Filled the new-made world with light;

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

All things living He doth feed

His full hand supplies their need;

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

He His chosen race did bless

In the wasteful wilderness;

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

He hath with a piteous eye

Looked upon our misery;

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

Let us then with gladsome mind

Praise the Lord, for He is kind.

For His mercies shall endure

Ever faithful, ever sure.

HYMNS FOR THE MONTH OF JANUARY

Winners’ News Issue 7 Volume 1 January 2018

11

HYMN 3

O WORSHIP THE KING

O worship the King, all glorious above,

O gratefully sing His power and His love;

Our Shield and Defender, The Ancient of

Days,

Pavilion’d in splendour, And girded with praise.

O tell of His might, O sing of His grace,

Whose robe is the light, Whose canopy space,

His chariots of wrath, The deep thunder-

clouds form,

And dark is His path, On the wings of the

storm.

Thy bountiful care, What tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, It shines in the light;

It streams from the hills, It descends to the

plain,

And sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, And feeble as frail,

In Thee do we trust, Nor find Thee to fail;

Thy mercies how tender, How firm to the

end,

Our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend!

O measureless might! Ineffable love!

While angels delight, To hymn Thee above,

The humbler creation, Though feeble their

lays,

With true adoration Shall lisp to Thy praise.

HYMN 4

BLESS THE LORD OH MY SOUL

Bless the Lord, Oh my soul

Oh my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, Oh my soul

I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up, it's a new day dawning

It's time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before

me

Let me be singing when the evening comes

Chorus

Bless the Lord, Oh my soul

Oh my soul, worship His holy name

Sing like never before, Oh my soul

I'll worship Your holy name

You're rich in love and you're slow to anger

Your name is great and your heart is kind

For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing

Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

And on that day when my strength is failing

The end draws near and my time has come

Still my soul will sing your praise unending

Ten thousand years and then forevermore
