Quest vWorkspace

OverviewQuest vWorkspace is an enterprise virtual desktop and application delivery solution for Virtual Desktops, Microsoft Windows Terminal Servers, Blade PCs, and Physical PCs. This document describes the requirements and the installation and configuration steps to test Quest vWorkspace in a Terminal Server environment. The following procedures are detailed:

• Downloading the Quest vWorkspace Software

• Installing the Connection Broker

• Entering Customer Information

• Meeting the Terminal Server Requirements

• Installing the vWorkspace Terminal Server Enhancements

• Publishing a Terminal Server Resource: Creating a Managed Application

• Using Evaluation Licenses

• Installing the vWorkspace Client

• Configuring AppPortal

• Using AppPortal to Connect to a Terminal Server Application

Please note that this document is not a replacement for the vWorkspace Administration Guide or other official documentation from the Quest Software Desktop Virtualization Group. This document serves to provide step by step instructions to start evaluating the features in the Quest vWorkspace.

Moderate experience with Microsoft Windows Server 2003 is needed in order to properly create the related configuration tasks.

Moderate experience with Quest vWorkspace is recommended.

Requirements

RequirementsThe following requirements are based upon the installation scenario depicted in this guide. Your actual system requirements may differ based upon your environment. Review the following requirements prior to starting the installation and configuration process.

One Microsoft Windows 2003 SP2 server (Terminal Server)

For performance reasons, it is strongly recommended to install the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2 Terminal Server to a physical machine. However, for evaluation purposes, a virtual machine can be used without problems.

One Microsoft Windows 2003 SP2 server (Connection Broker)

This server is used to host the vWorkspace Connection Broker. This machine can either be hosted on a virtualization platform or can be a physical server.

One Physical Microsoft Windows XP SP2 machine

This machine is used as the client machine. Although a Microsoft Windows XP SP2 virtual machine can also be used as the client machine, this document assumes a physical Microsoft Windows XP SP2 machine as the client machine to enable an optimal evaluation experience.

Active Directory Environment

A user must be created in AD with a password to complete the steps detailed in this document.

Best Practices

Firewall

Disable the Windows Firewall on all three machines in the Requirements section. Make sure that there is not a firewall between the physical Windows XP machine, the Terminal Server, and the Connection Broker.

If the Firewall cannot be disabled, please refer to this article for more information on the TCP ports associated with vWorkspace, please refer to the vWorkspace Administration Guide.
