Introduction
• LP360 for ArcGIS– Custom LIDAR extension for
ArcGIS
– Takes advantage of the binary LAS format
– Customized tools built specifically to leverage LIDAR data
– Optimized cross-section/profile data viewer
– Embedded 3D Viewer
– Does not require 3D Analyst or Spatial Analyst

ArcGIS and LP360
•Activated by turning on the extension•Adds additional toolbars to ArcGIS•Adds additional tabs to the Table of Contents•Customized classification filters for viewing•Does not require a specific ArcGIS level to run

LP360 Uses
• LIDAR visualization
• Ability to load very large datasets (county and state wide)
• Integration of ESRI shapefiles/feature classes, imagery with LIDAR
• Quick QA/QC of LIDAR data
• Basic classification of Point Cloud Data
• Building filter and point class footprint extraction
• Breaklines enforcement and creation

Adding LIDAR Data
•Files are indexed/pyramided for easier viewing and panning•Ability to view file information•Data can be viewed either as the point cloud or the TIN surface•Different viewing legends

Profile Window
• Can change display legend• Data can be vertically exaggerated• Profile depth can be set – useful for viewing specific areas only•Profile vertical extents can be clipped – useful for Mobile Mapping data• Points can be rotated around center axis• Profile can be synced with main window view

3D Window
• Data can be moved and rotated• Overlay of ESRI shapefiles or ortho imagery

Large Datasets
• Due to the pyramiding schema that occurs when LAS files are added to LP360, the program can handle large quantities of LIDAR files at one time– The pyramids that are created function similarly to the way
that image pyramids work where the resolution or density of points increase as the user zooms in on the map

Data Integration
• Since LP360 is implemented in the ArcGIS environment it has the ability to overlay LIDAR data with other GIS datasets
– Any dataset that can be added to ArcGIS that is geo-referenced can be overlaid with LIDAR data
– Allows for more interaction when updating GIS databases such as house and street locations

Quick QA/QC
• Allows users to do perform Quality assurance and quality control checks on LIDAR data
– Creates a feature class specifying problem areas
– Inputs user name for further clarification on subject area
12QCoherent Software Product Overview
Classify Module• Ability to reclassify point cloud manually and
automatically– Simple macros such as height and basic filter (from one
class to another)
– Classify within features
– Conflation/Classify capabilities
13QCoherent Software Product Overview
Point Cloud Tasks
• Tasks or filters that can be run on loaded LAS data
– Does not allow for ground classification
14QCoherent Software Product Overview
Extractor Module
• LP360 additional Extractor Module:
– Building Classification Filter for the Point Cloud Data
– Point Class Footprint Extraction to a ESRI Shapefile

Breaklines
• 3D breakline feature classes can be used to enforce the LIDAR surface
• 2D breaklines can be used with the LIDAR data to create 3D breakline features
• 3D breaklines can be created in the LP360 environment
– Elevation data can be added to the vertex geometry
– Elevation data can be added to the feature attribute table for hydrological surface enforcement
16QCoherent Software Product Overview
Breakline Enforcement
• Breakline enforcement is the introduction of breaklines into a surface such that the surface (i.e., 3D triangles) and/or contours conforms to the edges of the input breaklines
• In LP360 it is part of the display property and allows the user to define the layers/sources to be used

Creating New Breaklines
• Part of the ArcGIS Editor Environment
• Customized conflation tasks
– A Conflation Task defines a set of procedures (i.e., Conflation Method, Type Field and Value, and Task Buffering) for digitizing features that extract elevations from a LIDAR surface.

LIDAR Export Wizard
• Export to either Point or Surface Type
• Point File– LAS – ASCII XYZ– To Shapefiles– To DXF/DGN
• Surface/Grid File– Raster Files
• Binary (float) format• ASCII format
– Contours (Shapefiles, CAD files)– Surface Attributes:
• Elevation• Slope• Aspect• Hillshade
– Breakline enforcement
