Well there is much excitement around school today as the children are looking forward to the Christmas Fayre. Many thanks to all of you who have supplied your children with jam jars and sweets - we know that one of the highlights is winning a jar! In terms of the building, demolition continues to progress. Each time we look out of the window, something new has been brought to the ground. As you know, one of our major frustrations has been the limited outside space we have had this term for both children to play and to access the school during the mornings and after school. We are starting to be able to see the large space of outside land that we will be left with. It's good to see light at the end of the tunnel. Next week we will be assessing all the children in the school so that we can start to gain progress measures since the beginning of term. This is nothing to worry children about at all and all assessments are carried out in their classes during normal curriculum time. We do this so that children get very used to assessment procedures which prepares them well for the more formal testing at the end of key stage 2, but mainly so that we can get a good understanding of each individual child which we will discuss when planning learning for next term. This week a group of children went to Woking Football Club to attend a great day which Mrs Tolley had organised for all the Woking schools. The children had a wonderful day meeting the players whilst undertaking a variety of maths based challenges. I was also fortunate enough this week to attend a Surrey Schools headteachers conference where I was speaking to heads in the primary, secondary and special sector about change in schools and the need to flex leadership styles whilst using a variety of change management tools. As support and control from the local authority continues to withdraw from schools, we move towards a school led self improving system, so it is vital that we all continue to learn from each other so that we are able to make our schools in Surrey the best that they can be. I've certainly been stretching change here at Pyrford this term as we have juggled staffing whilst still maintaining our stance of not having to employ any bank or agency staff. Christmas plans continue to forge ahead at school. Teachers will send out any information which is relevant to you and your child regarding the long list of upcoming events. Please do keep a close eye on the newsletter for details of events and times. You will also be contacted soon about how to book tickets for your child’s Christmas production. Finally, I will apologise in advance for the no doubt very busy parking today at the school. The staff car park has been taken out of use by the contractors for today only and staff have been lift sharing or having to find alternative parking nearby on the roads. This week Mrs McAllister and Mr Evans, along with traffic wardens, have been patrolling the parking situation. I am disappointed that parents of our school think it is acceptable to drive up on the pavement right outside the school and then pull up on the grass verge outside our neighbours houses to pick up their children. We also witnessed a parent pulling up on the zebra crossing to drop a child off. Please park and drive responsibly. None of us want there to be a fatality outside of our own school. We would much rather you were 5 minutes late but that we saved our children's lives. CHRISTMAS FAYRE

Good morning.

Well there is much excitement around school today as the children are looking forward to the

Christmas Fayre. Many thanks to all of you who have supplied your children with jam jars and

sweets - we know that one of the highlights is winning a jar!

In terms of the building, demolition continues to progress. Each time we look out of

the window, something new has been brought to the ground. As you know, one of our major

frustrations has been the limited outside space we have had this term for both children to play

and to access the school during the mornings and after school. We are starting to be able to

see the large space of outside land that we will be left with. It's good to see light at the end of

the tunnel.

Next week we will be assessing all the children in the school so that we can start to gain

progress measures since the beginning of term. This is nothing to worry children about at all

and all assessments are carried out in their classes during normal curriculum time. We do this

so that children get very used to assessment procedures which prepares them well for the

more formal testing at the end of key stage 2, but mainly so that we can get a good

understanding of each individual child which we will discuss when planning learning for next

term.

This week a group of children went to Woking Football Club to attend a great day which Mrs

Tolley had organised for all the Woking schools. The children had a wonderful day meeting the

players whilst undertaking a variety of maths based challenges. I was also fortunate enough this

week to attend a Surrey Schools headteachers conference where I was speaking to heads in the

primary, secondary and special sector about change in schools and the need to flex leadership

styles whilst using a variety of change management tools. As support and control from the local

authority continues to withdraw from schools, we move towards a school led self improving

system, so it is vital that we all continue to learn from each other so that we are able to make

our schools in Surrey the best that they can be. I've certainly been stretching change here at

Pyrford this term as we have juggled staffing whilst still maintaining our stance of not having to

employ any bank or agency staff.

Christmas plans continue to forge ahead at school. Teachers will send out any information

which is relevant to you and your child regarding the long list of upcoming events. Please do

keep a close eye on the newsletter for details of events and times. You will also be contacted

soon about how to book tickets for your child’s Christmas production.

Fighting Fitness Judo hosted their Annual Schools Judo Championships on Sunday. Nearly 50 children from 9 different schools took part. Congratulations to Morgan Goslett who

won Gold and Hayden Cassidy and Genevieve Cassidy who both won Bronze.

If you’re a Co-op member, log in to your membership account and choose the school as the cause

you want to support. And if you’re not a member, you can pick up a card from the local Co-op. Then every time you buy Co-op branded products and services, from buying a loaf of bread to planning a funeral, we receive 1% of what you spend. We’re part of the fund for the next six months which means that we will get a contribution towards new playground facilities.

The stores supporting our school are the Co-ops in Pyrford, Knaphill (High Street), Knaphill (Victoria Road), Ripley and Wych Hill.

Seasons Greetings from all at Surrey County Council Fostering Service

You may be interested to know that there are over 880 children in care in Surrey. Around 40% of them are

placed outside of Surrey because we haven't got enough foster carers. We are looking for foster carers

for children aged 0-18, for supported lodgings providers for young people aged 16-21, and Short Breaks

carers for disabled children. Whether you are married or single, male or female, are straight or gay, do or

don't have your own children, rent or own your home, work or don't work, we would love to hear from you.

Meet our foster carers at cafes around Surrey

You might enjoy having an informal chat with foster carers about what it's like to foster with us.

We are very grateful to the cafes that have agreed to let our foster carers have a table on a monthly basis

at the following: All Things Nice in Ewell, Leatherhead Youth Project in Leatherhead, Hothouse Cafe in

Cobham, Bread and Roses in Addlestone, Bill's in Woking, Patisserie Valerie in Camberley, and West

Central in Redhill, with more venues to come. To find out the dates and times, please visit http://

bit.ly/2d9zjpc. You can simply drop in to the cafes at any point during the advertised times to chat with the

foster carers.

Book a home visit to chat to us about fostering

Why not give our friendly Fran a call on 0800 0969 626 or email [email protected] to

book a home visit? We can book a time that suits you on Monday to Friday, between 9am and 9pm.

There's no obligation to take your enquiry further if you decide after talking to us that fostering isn't for you

at this time.

Meet us at the Ripley Village Christmas Fair 4 December 12-4pm

We will be at the Ripley Christmas Fair in the High Street, Ripley Village GU23 6AY. There will be lots of

stalls and Santas on motorbikes riding through, so something to entertain everyone. Look out for the white

gazebo with purple cartoon animals and lots of balloons. Come and make a Christmas tree decoration

and a Christmas hat while you chat to us about fostering.

Meet us at Denbie's Christmas Shopping Event on Monday 12 December 5-8pm

We have a stall at the fair, why not come along and soak up the Christmassy atmosphere, do a spot of

shopping and chat with us about fostering?
