Squirrels update This week we were very excited to receive our nursery uniform samples from G&S by Val-entinos. The nursery uniform consists of a logo polo shirt (either blue or red) and a logo sweatshirt (either blue or red). These can be mixed and matched and worn with navy blue jogging bottoms. We are hoping to have a ‘pop up’ shop when we have ‘stay and play’ ses-sions in July (date tbc) for the children (and their parents) that are starting in September. A special thank you to our lovely models Leo and Aliona who did a fantastic job showcasing the uniform.

Off to the Oval!

On Wednesday this week Mr Jones and I took 12 girls to a Women's and Girl's event at The Kia Oval. The girls consisted of our Year 6 Kwik Cricket team - Charlotte, Connie, Joss, Lauren, Harriet, Macey, Amaea and Kirsty - and some aspiring cricketers from Year 5 - Tamsin, Eva, Katherine and Darcie. It was a bitterly cold day but the girls had an amazing time. They had the opportunity to do drills on the outfield with cricket coaches, do some ball skills in the Cricket Factory and play a match on the outfield

together with some secondary school girls. There were over 400 girls present from both Primary and Secondary Schools. At the end of the day we attended an question and answer session led by Ebony Rainford-Brent director of Surrey Women's Cricket. The girls had the opportunity to ask some Surrey Cricketers questions. One of those cricketers was Safar Ansari. It was a great day out and a wonderful opportunity for the girls to play in such auspicious surroundings. We are looking forward to receiving an invitation to next year's event! Mrs Cockle

The Cup Final was Woking Town Youth vs Burpham Juniors Panthers

As soon as the whistle blew for the start of the game, we had all the possession. Will Abbott and Josh Stimson were amazing in defence and no one could get past them. We had lots of shots on goal, but couldn’t score until half way through the half when we finally got the ball in the net. It was a fantastic goal by our top striker Ollie Eliot!! After this, it was not long until Ollie scored again to make the score 2-0 minutes before the half-time whistle blew.

Burpham started the second half well, and from a corner they got a lucky own goal from one of our player’s heads. This goal came as a shock to us; so we worked even harder. We kept putting pressure on Burpham, and when we thought we were going to score again Ollie got taken down in the box! Without hesitating Nate Hurles stepped up to take the spot kick … and after a short run up … he smashed it into the back of the net!! There was no coming back for Burpham, and when the final whistle blew all six Pyrford boys had the biggest grin on their faces!”

On May 13th Miss Adams and Mrs Tolley will be taking part in the

London Moonwalk; a marathon distance power walking event,

through the night, to raise money for Walk the Walk, a breast cancer

charity. Walk the Walk is based in Woking. As the charity aims to

raise awareness of breast cancer symptoms they ask all participants

to complete the walk in a decorated bra, even the men!

Miss Adams and Mrs Tolley are both doing the walk in memory of Mrs Edis and have been training hard. Their

bras will feature both pink and sparkles in her honour. Both of them would be grateful of any support anyone can

give and the links to their fundraising pages are below.

Thank you very much.

Surrey County Council Fostering Service Spring 2017 Newsletter

The number of children in care in Surrey has increased slightly recently, and hovers around 900 children. We continue to have to place 40% of those in foster care outside of Surrey because we haven't got enough foster carers. We need foster carers for children of all ages, from birth to 18, for supported lodgings carers for young people aged 16-21, and Short Breaks carers for children with disabilities.

Whether you are married or single, male or female, straight or gay, whatever your cultural heritage, do or don't have your own children, rent or own your home, work or don't work, we would love to hear from you. You do need to have a spare room, or if you want to become a Short Breaks carer, be able to make a room available when the child stays with you.

Foster Care Fortnight 8-21 May 2017

The Fostering Network holds its annual fortnight to raise awareness about fostering. We have scheduled a series of events around this time and we would love to chat with you at any of them:

6 May Shah Jahan Mosque, Woking, after Friday prayers

9 May 10am-midday Leatherhead Library

9 May 2-4pm Dorking Library

10 May 7-9.30pm Woking Library

As part of our Foster Care Fortnight events, Surrey County Council Fostering Service is hosting an evening with authors Carolyn Robertson and James Craker. Carolyn adopted twice and James is a foster carer. Come and hear them talk about their books and how their experiences of fostering and adoption has influenced their writing stories for children. They will bring copies of their books for you to purchase and they will be delighted to sign them for you. Free light refreshments will be available. Reasonably priced car parks are nearby, with Victoria Way car park being the nearest.

Foster carers and fostering team members will be on hand to chat with you about fostering with us if you want to find out more. Please book your free place via this page: https://www.surreycc.gov.uk/social-care-and-health/fostering-and-adoption/fostering/fostering-recruitment-events
